feels good to do a bit of drawin' again.
after a short hiatus, taken as a means of sorting out some life-stuff, i picked up my pencil & paintbrush to create the above. this lady is the illustrated version of last year's hallowe'en costume; a 1920's tattooed lady. her tats are a bit less complicated than the ones i decided to ink on myself (seriously, do you know how hard it is to draw a stag on the back of your calf?), but i'm liking how simple they are & how happy she looks to have them.
• for 1,000 shop sales • for your patience with how long it takes to restock my ceramics shop • for checking out my new little project (maybe)
pretty happy to be back doing ceramics again. i finally picked up some of the things i made at the start of the year, & found out that i accidentally made some stacking pots.
on sunday night, i went down to london on the sleeper train. on monday night i came back. it was nice to have a day to wander around, meet people & be all self-indulgent with my drawing (a perfect example of the "nothingness" that this article berates, & that this response from lizzy stewart celebrates). as a result, a zine. but not for another few days; once i've finished doing drawings for other people. then i get to be self-indulgent again.
i've gotten into the habit of posting peeks of projects on instagram but then not showing the final finished thing anywhere else. tsk. anyway, as a means of reminding myself of all the things i've done, i added a few projects to my website recently, as well as a few snapshots to dribbble. not everything i've worked on is everywhere, but that's okay. above is something i created for nilk festival in september, a day of beer & live bands at the botanic gardens in dundee, which also turned out to be the very last day of 2013 that i managed to sit outside with just a t-shirt on, eating ice cream. come back summer, i miss u.
get 20% off your order in my etsy shop until fri 20 january with coupon code HELLO2012. there's prints, cards, notebooks, zines & more - i'll be adding to this over the next few months, but for now you can get a nifty deal on current stock.
the concept of flying, through the sky, to the furtherest possible country on earth is a strange thing when you start to think about it. the first weekend of this month saw me travel for over a day to get to new zealand (losing several hours of my birthday in the process, wah), & it's a long journey to mostly stay in one place for. towards the end of our second flight, all i could think of was how glorious it would be to lie down. i sketched haggard self-portraits, a woman embracing a cloud. as someone with only the options of sitting down & occasionally standing up on a crowded plane, the next best thing to freely frolicking around that i could do was draw it. in short, that's where the above ladies came from. flailing around, naked, carefree. drawn at a way higher altitude that almost all of my work. & now they're one big romping dance party that you can use (in two colours: one, two) to decorate your desktops. enjoy. (for personal use only, please. remember to download rather than hotlink).
Ode to an old desk. This was a pretty good space, even though there was usually so much crap around that it made it harder to achieve things.
just a note to say that my new prints were delivered early & are now on sale: botanic I, botanic II, the botanic package & the bison.
