After some requests for one, I've created a Bolden mailing list. The first update goes out tomorrow with a lil' discount as a thank you - sign up here: http://www.boldenceramics.com/mailing-list
I reopened my ceramics shop yesterday - my first update of the year & of the work I've been making since moving to Canada. There are some new things alongside old favourites - go take a look: boldenceramics.com.
Ode to an old desk. This was a pretty good space, even though there was usually so much crap around that it made it harder to achieve things.
i'm an impatient person, though i'm trying to embrace the fact that some things take time. i tried out wood carving a few weeks ago & the thing i made is still no-where near finished, so instead i drew a girl carving some wood, & the drawing is done.
then.again Sometimes I feel a bit at a loss at what to draw so, last year, I started drawing my Instagram feed in chronological order. After a bit of a hiatus due to being busy with work and moving to another continent (hello, Canada), I've recently picked it up again. It's good to have ready-made references that I can depict in new ways, and things I might usually avoid subject-wise (landscapes! cars! men!) are going to provide an interesting challenge. You can keep up by following along here.
I reopened my ceramics shop yesterday! So this photo is already out of date & I already sold a bunch of things, but I'm posting this anyway because better late than never, right? ☞ Bolden is OPEN: http://bolden.bigcartel.com
remember that lil project i mentioned? well, here it is;, a project in which i illustrate my instagram feed, then post the drawings on instagram.
• for 1,000 shop sales • for your patience with how long it takes to restock my ceramics shop • for checking out my new little project (maybe)
some tiny wild things to hide in your plants. hoping to have new things (& old favourites) in my ceramics shop soon. in the meantime, you'll find some small pots (on sale!) & a palm dish, if you like that sort of thing.
I want this blouse, so I drew it. Image used for reference (a rarity!) so definitely maybe don't view them side-by-side.
i've gotten into the habit of posting peeks of projects on instagram but then not showing the final finished thing anywhere else. tsk. anyway, as a means of reminding myself of all the things i've done, i added a few projects to my website recently, as well as a few snapshots to dribbble. not everything i've worked on is everywhere, but that's okay. above is something i created for nilk festival in september, a day of beer & live bands at the botanic gardens in dundee, which also turned out to be the very last day of 2013 that i managed to sit outside with just a t-shirt on, eating ice cream. come back summer, i miss u.
Annual new year's discount tiiime: get 15% off your order with coupon code HELLO2014 in my shop until Thu 7 January - I'm also giving away my Cabin screen-print with all orders over £6/$10 (before shipping) throughout January (whilst stock lasts). Hurrah!

as you might have realised, a lot of the objects in my ceramics shop are derived from drawings of mine or have elements influenced by my drawing style; the tiger that i made a few months ago was originally based on this illustration, using the image as a reference for shape & line. i sold the ceramic tiger pretty quickly, but before i shipped him off i took the opportunity to add to the cycle by drawing my clay version. illustration > ceramic > illustration. i feel like doing another ceramic level might be a bit redundant in this instance, but it'd be interesting to see how far you could take a concept by reworking it over & over in this way.
last weekend kathryn & i went to the botanic gardens to draw. we ended up spending our time inspecting the underside of ferns for seed pods & harassing the poor mimosa pudica instead. after warming up with a coffee & wandering in some late afternoon sunshine however, i did a sketch which turned into the above. my favourite part of the gardens is house 6 - the palm house - which is the tallest space within the glasshouses. it's quite easy to forget you're in the middle of glasgow when you're under a dense canopy of enormous tropical leaves.
hands up if you like free stuff! it's been three whole years since i've had a giveaway, so i thought i'd have a shot at doing one on this here blog. to be in with a chance of winning the little package of goods above (a giclée print, lino print & badge), just leave a comment on this post saying hello plus a way for me to get in touch (twitter/email etc) if you win. i know tumblr as a rule is pretty into its re-blogging & likes, but i miss the good ol' days when blogs were for commenting on (y'know, like in 2010) . i'll pick a winner at random on sun 6 october. good luck! EDIT: giveaway closed! thanks for all the entries. will be in touch with the winner soon.
