Lorna Wu took a song that was created between mother and child, added her own message, turned it into a protection spell and sang it with millions to have it take effect and made sure it turned onto a hit classic so that people will listen and sing it for decades, all to continuously protect her daughter after she herself would die of the curse that took her mother and is fated to take her and her daughter AND IT WORKED. She thought she couldn't protect her daughter, couldn't break the spell but she did protect her daughter; in the most beautiful way too. Millions were singing about her love for her daughter and those millions were constantly protecting Alice for years. I'm actually feral this show is so insane. There's so much love in this show (and so much tragedy) I could talk about each character and everything else forever
STILL the hottest couple in the MCU, IDGAF.
I know that there are a lot of feelings right now, and everyone is absolutely entitled to them. The announcement certainly hit hard.
I did, however, want to add a little bit of my own hope into the mix. Maybe it won't matter. But maybe it will help someone feel just a bit better about everything.
For context, someone on Reddit made an excellent point that 90 minutes is plenty of time to tell a great story. Many have been told in less than that. Lion King, Nightmare Before Christmas, Beauty and the Beast, Totoro, I could go on.
I completely agreed with them. But I also wanted to add my own personal spin as well.
When you really get down to it, the plot of season two was truly only compromised of 90 minutes worth of plot between A + C. Maybe even less than.
A lot of it was drawing out a mystery that didn't need to be as long as it was. As much as I love me some putzing and meandering, seeing this entire 90 minute drama go down has made me realize just how weak season two was.
Did I love it? Hell yes.
But I'm also realizing that the plot wasn't tight.
Most of the memorable moments are comprised of seconds of screentime.
Not minutes.
Seconds.
The touching of Aziraphale's hand to Crowley's chest
"Look at you, you're gorgeous."
Hands touching during dancing
The final speech and kiss
Michael Sheen's bitchy little eyebrow raise
Michael Sheen eye fucking Crowley every chance he gets
Just Michael Sheen's quiet, quick acting choices in general
When breaking it down, most of what mattered added up to less than 90 minutes, with the rest of it being unfocused and dithering.
Now imagine 90 minutes. 90 minutes of focus on these two characters. No chance for meandering, no opportunity to wander off. These two will be forced to confront their issues, their grief, their resilience, their LOVE with nothing to pull us away. There won't be time for side characters to take the focus. There won't be time to worry about other relationships or spending time apart.
This is going to be about them because it can't waste time on anything else.
AND ANOTHER THING.
I keep seeing people saying "90 minutes isn't enough time to tie up all the loose ends". And to that I say...
What loose ends?
We really only have two. The second apocalypse and their love.
And to those who say 90 minutes isn't enough to stop an apocalypse, I counter with; season 1 stopped it in 5 minutes while they stood on what was essentially a parking lot. And they were side characters at that point.
In conclusion: we will be okay. Would I have loved six episodes to watch them circle one another? Sure. But I have spent more time reading fanfiction of them than watching the actual show, and those writers have created better scenarios than Neil Gaimen ever could. The kind of stories that would make Terry Pratchett proud.
We will get what we need. Because the people who fought for this love these characters. And because David and Michael would personally square up with Jeff Bezos in a parking lot just to be able to lock lips on screen again and again in a cottage by the sea
We will be okay. More than that, we will thrive.♡🖤
❤.
Agatha when the door to the road™️ appeared knowing damn well she made the whole thing up:
the final trial forced agatha to accept that nicky's death was never rio's fault. sometimes, boys die. agatha never would have kissed rio, showing that she chooses death, without first realizing that.
now that agatha is a ghost, which we know rio will despise, it sets them up for more deliciously antagonistic interactions BUT it also sets them up for healthier interactions than they've had in centuries. when we see them again, their interactions will likely take on a lighter, more playful tone than anything we've seen so far.
because agatha no longer blames rio, and rio was able to take agatha willingly instead of giving her 'special treatment' that would reveal its own cost sooner or later, they're now standing on more equal footing with one another and each is able to see the other more clearly. of course they still have centuries of emotional avoidance (mostly on agatha's part) to sift through, but their main problem was agatha blaming rio for something rio couldn't help, and rio trying to protect agatha from loss by bending the rules for her but really only delaying the inevitable.
agatha needed to accept that rio's role is indiscriminate, and rio needed to accept that agatha is mortal and therefore subject to the same natural laws as any other human. this new level of mutual acceptance brings down a HUGE emotional barrier to their eventual reconciliation, and is a damn good development for agatha's show to conclude with.
toxic yuri soulmates who will always find their way back to each other as their shared love forces them to slowly let go of the beliefs that drive them apart and become less toxic brain go brrrrrrrrrr🤯
okay i actually like agatha’s ending plot-wise for several reasons:
1) agatha becoming the thing her ex hates is 100% on brand
2) she very obviously is committed to learning everything she can about how to use her ghost abilities and being agatha, probably grabbing any other power she can too
3) she’s sticking close to the only person who’s managed to shove dead souls into new bodies, gee i wonder if that was part of the risk she calculated when deciding which of them should live
4) this truly sets up so many potential delicious agathario futures. if agatha stays a ghost they’re both in eternal forms now. they can chase each other forever
i do wish we’d gotten more rio in the finale. there’s some really good subtext in there; she gave agatha six years with nicky, during which he created the song that wound up giving her so many, many bodies. it would’ve been amazing to see rio with agatha and nicky, to see them as the family we all imagined. it would’ve been amazing to have at least one scene of agatha and rio’s relationship before things went bad
so yeah, there’s definitely things i wish we could’ve gotten, but overall i think it was excellent and clearly crafted with so much care
please remember that this is still marvel and disney. jac schaeffer and team didn’t have a choice about billy being introduced or leaving the series alive. they chose to subvert the tropes people are ranting about by having agatha choose a physical death on her own terms and in a way that leaves a ton of possibilities for how she can claw her way into more power
I don't understand why people thought that we would get a happy ending for Agathario. At least for now.
I'm glad that by making her a ghost, there is a chance to bring her back to life. Though I ship Agathario A LOT, I want to see Agatha alive and powerful. I want to see her thrive and kick some ass!
Also, this is marvel. Couples usually don't get happy endings. Think about it. Most marvel love stories end tragically or go through a lot of trials before they reach a happy ending.
And this isn't THE END for Agatha. It's the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. We will definitely get to see more of Rio.
Now, two last things:
I have to say that being a spirit guide to Billy could actually be quite fun. I mean, she will definitely be the most annoying ghost, but also a great mentor. It would also be interesting to see what powers she possesses as a ghost.
The fact that they keep her as a ghost means that someone could bring her back to life! I really want to see her back in her human form and powerful!! Her powers are one of my favorite things about her! I want to see her having an important role in the marvel universe. She is too powerful to not be utilized in future marvel projects!
Sorry for the rant, but I had to say this.
so I’ve been seeing a lot of people complaining about the finale of Agatha and I wanted to give my two cents on their main points:
1. “they used agatha’s show as a way to promote a man!!” well yes! that’s how marvel tv works im afraid. or any tv, really. wandavision was used to introduce agatha and monica, which led to their projects in the mcu (aaa, marvels). agatha introduced billy, leading to his future in visionquest or his solo series, which will introduce tommy and vision, which will lead to children’s crusade to reintroduce wanda. this is common for any tv show, but especially a big, connected franchise like marvel. i find it so concerning that even after all the promotion that showed us billy and agatha as co-leads, people were STILL shocked when the finale sets up a future story centered around him. like i hate to break it to yall but marvel wants money. and more shows means more money.
2. “they killed off a lesbian woman and not the gay man!” first of all, in the comics, agatha is a spirit guide for the scarlet witch. this form is her most comic accurate yet. also, did yall really think that was an unfair ending? or an ending PERIOD? all her death made me think of was the possibilities for the future with both billy AND rio. and again; rio was promoted as the ‘antagonist’ to agatha since the beginning. i don’t know how people went into this excepting a happily ever after for these two. they were always depicted as tragic lovers, and i honestly think the kiss of death was beautiful and poetic. i also don’t think this is the last we’re seeing of rio. and, as a side note, homophobia is still not okay! it doesn’t matter if you’re also gay; lesbians can be homophobic towards gay men, and gay men can be lesbophobic towards lesbians. and i’ve seen wayyyy too much of both in this fanbase. you can criticize characters and critique actors without bringing up their sexuality. we have enough incel homophobes doing that for us
3. if you’re still complaining about wanda not coming back i have no hope for you
4. this show, since day ZERO, was promoted as a show with billy and agatha as coleads. while i wish we had more backstory for how agatha and rio met, the salem flashbacks involving nicholas, the road scheme, and the song were much more important to the show. the parallels between nicky and billy were explored throughout the season a lot more than agatha and rios story (whether or not you like it, it’s still true (i personally wish we had a bit more on how they met 😭))
5. sending hate to actors about things their characters did is STILL not okay! and never will be!
6. this might be a hot take but if you’re only watching a show for a ship and don’t care about the story at all your opinion is irrelevant to me. like people who started watching after it was revealed in the show that agatha and rio were lovers (because, correct me if i’m wrong, this was never revealed before the episodes dropped) have no right to be upset when the show focuses on other things. and this is coming from a MASSIVE fan of agathario. and a lesbian. i loved the fact that i was watching characters who just happened to be lesbians have their own story. yes, i wish there was more agathario in the flashbacks. but i’m really not upset at all by what we got. and don’t get me wrong, people have every right to be disappointed, but they don’t have the right to hate on the creators and actors of the show. that’s not cool.
this is way longer than i thought it was gonna be 😭😭 hope everyone enjoyed the finale
in the comics Agatha is revived by wanda. And that’s all I’m going to say.
kathryn hahn needs an emmy, an oscar, and an international holiday right now.
Rio made sure Nicky kissed Agatha goodbye
Us not getting Agathario backstory or why Agatha is the way she is (apart from the small snippets given in AAA) is a good thing. It leaves the possibility for an Agatha origin story, if she gets popular enough. How she got so strong, why exactly her mother wanted her dead, how she got so close to Rio and how she got the Darkhold. There wasn’t time in AAA but that doesn’t mean there won’t be time later
I need a spinoff of Agatha being the world’s most annoying spirit guide
When you actually have to do the job you applied for after lying about how capable and great you are on your résumé
In 2024 hyper realistic graphics are no longer impressive. You know what impresses me? A fully complete and functional game at launch
they said this is the cheapest marvel series ever produced. see, this is what happens when you focus on storytelling instead of unnecessary stuff no one cares about. i loved this episode so much. please, give me more low-budget marvel shows that care about the plot, the characters, and their target audience. i don't need another rdj blockbuster marvel movie. you can have that. give me meaningful stories with a low budget, made by people who truly believe in what they're creating.
ppl talk about the difficulty of writing characters smarter than yourself, but the real challenge is writing a character who is funnier than you are
people will see a fandom thing and be like "why isn't this a fanfic" "why is there no fanfic about this" my brother in christ, because you're not writing it
“they’re queerbait this, they’re not canon that” they’re whatever i want them to be on ao3 actually
revising your writing is just like "is this weird. is this a weird sentence. is this the weirdest most poorly-worded sentence ever written by anyone" and the sentence in question is "he walked across the room"
Really incredible detail: Agatha is the one to take the Death Tarot card and lay it on top of the Queen of Cups card that represents Lilia. At the moment, Agatha was only trying to end the trial and stop the swords. She had no malicious intent in the move. But, in a way, she sealed Lilia's fate.
She's a witch killer even when she doesn't intend to be.
Don’t you just love it when horrible people ruin stuff for everyone else
You guys don't understand ( actually you probably do ) , but Agatha saying "Ask a straight lady" is the best line ever cuz us gays be saying shit like this CONSTANTLY and straight writers trying to write gay and lesbian characters never understand the assignment and for a Marvel Witch show to be the first one with such a relatable and REAL line for us is NOT what I saw in the cards as far as representation goes, but here we are. And I'm obsessed with it!
