Italian med student with an obsession for painting. Also a mythology and history nerd. Give me a book and I'll give you my heart.

It makes me so, so angry when I see those posts that are like "HORRIFYING EARLY PLASTIC SURGERY RESULTS FROM WW2," because all of those lists are full of images that aren't the final result and are used for pure shock value. Harold Gillies, who performed most of those surgeries, was an incredibly talented surgeon. Here are some images of the full results of his surgeries.
I need to emphasize that I can't post the "before" pictures that go with these because the men did not have faces. The injuries were so extensive that these men were missing nearly all of their facial features, and through cutting-edge techniques that "looked scary" at the time (e.g. extensive skin grafts), Gillies saved these men from a medical nightmare.
Gillies performed the world's first ftm bottom surgery for trans man Michael Dillon and pioneered mtf bottom surgery! Respect his legacy.
Song of the day (Valentine's day with the Three headed Monster that Is the Cardiology-Cardiosurgery-Vascular surgery exam looming ever closer)
Binge watching Get Back in one sleepless night (thank you insomnia) shifted my perception of the Beatles from "music I love from my childhood" to "new obsession unlocked". 1000% would recommend.
happy its like you and me are lovers 24th of january
Imagine having The Beatles sing you to sleep.
Story of a Beatles (or rather Lennon-McCartney) oil sketch.
If you want it, boys
Get it here thing
Cause hope, boys
Is a cheap thing, cheap thing
Is it nice in your snowstorm
Freezing your brain?
Do you think that your face
Looks the same?
Well, let it be
It's all I ever wanted
It's a street with a deal
And a taste
It's got claws
It's got me
It's got you
I am sorry I should be studying but I am rewatching Cracked Actor and catching feelings. How could I not.
Self reblog for obvious reasons.
Happy birthday on the other side.
Also: propaganda for one of my favorite live album.
Small oil study of David Bowie in his thin White Duke era.
I've been a fan of his music since my mum made me listen to Space Oddity when I was ten and obsessed with space stuff. Occasionally I am reminded of how pretty he was (this time I blame Pinterest for showing me the photo this was based on) and I Just have to paint him.
Director Gordon Cole and the Evanescent Phillip Jeffries, traditional art version
My silly digital painting app crashed and I lost the file for this one, so, despairing of modern technology, I went back to my sketch book. I still have to finish it though.
Probably I'll turn it into a watercolor/gouache illustration when I have the time. Probably not in the near future: exam season is upon me.
The classical piece I fell in love with as a child (thanks mom). Still in love with it. How could I not be.

Eukaryotic cell gang!! We love women in STEM.
The organelles of the cells have been translated into human anatomy, so the nucleus is the brain, the vacuole function as the lungs, and the mitochondria is the heart since it’s the… you already know, I don’t have to say it ;)
Pencil sketch of W. S. Burroughs because I have the flu on New Year's Eve and I'm home reading Naked Lunch
About a year ago I was sitting in a really shitty corporate cafe and reading a book about medieval astronomy. There was a passage about how when we look up at the sky, we see titanic balls of gas all whirling about according to physics, but when a medieval person looked up at the sky, they saw literal divine clockwork turned by uncountable invisible spirits.
I was sitting in a shitty cafe, and I had a moment of realization. I knew logically that's how people used to see the night sky, but something about that moment just clicked. I felt what I can only describe as intellectual vertigo, as I realized "holy shit the world is really different than it was 700 years ago."
the older i get the more frustrating i find it how little people recognize or acknowledge it when massive problems start to get solved... i get the concept of focusing on unsolved problems and injustices to keep up the pressure of public opinion, but we should also acknowledge it when great things are accomplished. we just started rolling out the first-ever malaria vaccine which will likely save millions of children's lives. about half a million people die of malaria every year and over half of those deaths are children 5 years old and under. ive seen literally no one i know talking about this huge triumph for humanity
Update on the Twin Peaks obsession : the Diane sketch morphed into a future full piece. Also I started another painting because I have the attention span of a goldfish and typewriters are HARD to draw.
Gordon Cole with the evanescent Phillip Jeffries from a happier (? ) time before the Twin Peaks debacle. I don't like the boring beige color of Jeffries coat but I can't decide on a fun, stylish one that won't look out of place. Any ideas are welcome.
So I've been binge watching twin peaks and I can't believe I waited so long. It has everything. Beautiful imagery, creepy and unsettling vibes, owls that are not what they seem, my crush Audrey Horne (a goddess who deserves better), A LOT of fan theories and lore, the whole Blue Rose thing ... I am in love.
Also Phillip Jeffries the Teapot from Mars.
Here's a sketch of Diane, inspired by a scene in this fic.
Because everyone keeps asking about it.
These Bastards are available as prints, cards and postcards over on RedBubble.
I’ve had a go at making stickers out of these and it’s bloody horrendous. So I hope you all can suffice with prints for now.
Please also have a look over on my INPRNT store for more artwork x

One of the best-written, cleverest, and loveliest fics I've ever read. Yes the premise is SO crack but the realization is simply a masterpiece. Also it comes with amazing art. What's not to love.
That's it, darlings. This is finally it. So it ends, after three full years of smitten work. The last 50K is out there on A03 and there will be no more. Freude is over, and yet, never-ending.
The story of those eternal idiots will remain on the Archive and there it will wait for its audience of oddities to find it. It might take time, and it's just fine, time is hopefully what I have. I will be there to cherish the comments, even in 3 years from now.
I'll keep that blog rolling for as long as I have things to draw, write or say about those lovely idiots of mine, and after that, eh, who knows what else my obessive mind might dive into? Cheers to you all, close and far, chatty or silent, old or new. Find pleasure where it lies, fight for it if you must. Remember joy is resistance.
speaking of doodles I never finished baby I’m brining and london boys song posters why did I never finish youuuuu
the thing that sucks is that people love saying sleep early is good etc etc and yeah it is. I've seen some benefits before. but I think it sucks to ignore that late night is the only time with any freedom. I think it sucks to not acknowledge the dread in waking up and it's a work day again
Nero and Seneca, by Eduardo Barrón (1904)
I love this statue so much because it really captures the fact that Nero is just a grumpy teen going through a phase and Seneca is desperately trying to teach him something so he doesn't get exiled again
An absolute gem of pure CRINGE and peak comedy. As an italian I can say we never do things halfway. Here the commitment to the cringe was VERY strong.
One of the finest moments in the history of italian television.
Really it's an absurdist take on the interview genre. We get:
- questions directly from a beauty pageant :"Is there any future? How do we end world hunger? What can we do to achieve world peace?".
- a VERY confused interpreter throwing gasoline on the fire of misunderstanding.
- Celentano being both confrontational and oblivious while also managing to be weirdly patronizing. I mean "hai la faccia di uno che pensa" ?? (= You have the face of a thinker).
- Bowie going from baffled to disbelieving to annoyed while trying to cover it by being funny.
- Bowie's desperate side eye as he hears the first question and realizes what he signed up for. Honestly you feel bad for him.
- One of the best polite ways to say "fuck no" to somebody:
C: " do you think we'll meet again?"
B: "having met in this occasion we never need to meet in the future"
It's a crime that so few people know of this.
Today I had the following confirmed:
1. The 70s are not over. Nor will they ever be.
2. I am a Lou Reed simp, it's embarassing
3. But not AS embarassing as how much Bowie I've been listening. I won't disclose any details,
4. My Paul McCartney-loving mom is going to be so proud, she taught me well.
5. Ghost, the outlier in my Vintage extravaganza, gave me so much joy since I discovered them last december. It was one of the (if not THE) best concert I went to.
1 - Station To Station 2 - Golden Years 3 - Word On A Wing 4 - TVC 15 5 - Stay 6 - Wild Is The Wind
To recover from the stress of med school (exams in September are a sign of Satan's influence on the world) I've been re-reading some of @therealvinelle and @thecarnivorousmuffinmeta 's brilliant fics (seriously, I spent whole afternoons laughing like an idiot).
To have it set in the muffinelle-verse I used these for the casting:
Carlisle
Renata (with a charming fur hat)
Aro
Here's a some quick paintings of a scene from Nebuchadenezzar's Dream, as screenshots form an hypothetical movie.
(Luckily all other characters don't have any close up shot and can have vague and blurry features.)
Overall it was a fun exercise in working fast and loose and not getting bogged down in the details as I usually do when I work digitally.
