Oh, okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don’t know, that gaslight gatekeep girlboss meme, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you think modern feminism has been co-opted by corporations. But what you don’t know is that that meme is not from Instagram, it's not from Twitter, it's not from Tiktok, it’s actually from Tumblr. You’re also blithely unaware of the fact that in January 2021, Tumblr user missnumber1111 posted, "today's agenda: gaslight gatekeep and most importantly girlboss." And then I think it was a-m-e-t-h-y-s-t-r-o-s-e, wasn’t it, who reblogged it with an image of the phrase edited over a piece of "Live, Laugh, Love" wall art? And then gaslight gatekeep girlboss showed up in the feeds of eight different Twitter repost accounts. Then it filtered down through Instagram and then trickled on down into some tragic “alt side of Tiktok” where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that meme represents millions of notes and countless Tumblr users and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from Tumblr when, in fact, you’re wearing the meme that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of “stuff.”
its pretty funny actually that after 25 years of scapegoating Lottie she dies and they all immediately go "hm who else is easy to blame? i know ! that other person we repeatedly isolated and demonised". and well shauna doesnt exactly help her case by biting people.
I dont really see people talk about enough the fact shauna probably spent so much time frustrated with jackie because she was in some way aware of jackie's facade. like imagine your childhood best friend starts putting on a fake exterior with you (and we know jackie does this we literally see her twist and omit the truth constantly, especially with shauna and especially when talking about jeff) like would that not feel insulting? even though its not at all malicious and almost entirely about jackie's fears and insecurities, shauna still had to experience probably years of the person she cared about most basically lying to her face. jackie constantly keeps shauna at arms length emotionally, making fun of her to avoid difficult or deep conversations, and just lying about what shes experiencing emotionally in general. shes not honest about her relationship with her boyfriend. not honest about the pressures she feels. like shauna gets a lot of heat for not saying anything but really both of them were as bad as each other. just because jackie was speaking doesnt mean what she was saying was honest. I think on some level shauna could tell that and it was what was feeding that intense resentment she felt.

How's this story for you? Once upon a time, a bunch of teenage girls got stranded in the Wilderness, and they went completely fucking nuts. They worshipped evil spirits, and they hunted their friends, and they feasted on their flesh, and they fucking liked it. So they told themselves stupid fairy tales and pretended they were brave and strong. Because the reality was that even if rescue came, they could never go home again. Because of what they'd done. Because of what they'd become. That's the truth.
YELLOWJACKETS — Season 3 (2025)
It’s so funny seeing the problems people have with this show and just going *shrug*. The show itself is so ambitious that it was bound to have holes in the narrative, but like. “The adults only remember what’s convenient”—yeah, kinda? Kinda the idea? Do you remember every instance of what you did when you were eighteen, decades ago? I don’t. I definitely do not. And there is so much I know I’ve wallpapered over out of shame and regret and embarrassment—as a very normal person with a terribly boring upbringing.
Imagine spending two years where every day bleeds into the next, where you’re doing unimaginable things just to get by, where you’re sometimes reveling in the worst shit you could possibly be doing because it makes you feel alive? You’re telling me you’d cast that all in stone, memory-wise? Nah, dude, you’re pushing that shit down. You’re fine-tuning it in your head so it’s fuzzy at best and flat-out erased at worst. You think at forty these woman have just been chilling with their most reprehensible memories? Shauna absolutely did not. Taissa canonically repressed everything she possibly could. Natalie sank into drugs. Van ran away. It’s only when they’re together and they’re forced to actually interact that they start behaving like their teenage selves again. It’s only when you come back upon your old classmates that you fall into old patterns. Because doing otherwise for twenty-five years would have undone them completely. They did forget. Not completely, but the way you always forget huge swathes of your childhood. And then it’s easier to make the story what you can live with.
Shauna? Oh, she was kind of always writing, good with a knife, feel like she stressed me out sometimes, but I had my own problems. Oh, Tai? She was intense and ambitious and…did that ever damage me directly? Can’t recall. Van? She was sweet and funny and told stories. That’s probably it. Misty? Yeah, she was the outsider, she wasn’t even on the team. I remember making fun of her, but haven’t we all been there? Lottie? Where did she even go? We just lose track of old friends sometimes. Nat? Nat’s been in and out of trouble for years. Hard to remember what she even looked like when she was small and blonde and…and…rough? She was rough, right? Yeah. Yeah, the yearbook pictures back that up. Jackie? A tragedy. Just so sad. Anyway: life to live, groceries to buy, work to do. Anyway: don’t need to waste any more mental energy on that. Anyway: wait—why is someone sniffing around the story? What even is the story? It’s bad. It’s bad, why would we want to remember? It’s bad, and the details are coming back, and oh no, oh god, we can’t bury it any deeper.
What we’re watching in the adult timeline is far from flawless, but they are remembering as they go. And they’re coloring their own memories, which are really just memories of memories. Like Nat seeing Travis in the dead-wife light, they are still writing the narrative the way they can live with. But their stories are going to start butting up against one another. And the only way through is to be the last one standing: because then you can believe whatever you need to. Whatever lets you keep standing tall.

I'm not condoning it, but Shauna not letting them grieve Mari is just the same as her putting the knife in Nat’s hand. Its a plea for understanding. Ofc its cruel. its inhumane. she gets too much satisfaction out of the entire ordeal. but its also what they did to her first. “they’re not people, they’re sacrifices. it was for the greater good. you can’t grieve them Shauna, can’t grieve your child, he actually belongs to all of us now. watch us disturb his grave, your best friends grave too, praying to a god none of you believed in. why can you let go of what you did to Javi? a child you cared about. tried to protect once. why are you so angry? we’re intrepid heroes. there's a glory in it actually.” Like, is it any wonder she throws it all back in their faces?
keep thinking about lottie saying "It never meant what you thought it meant" about the necklace. jackie saying "Now nothing can touch you" when she first gave it to shauna. because hasnt jackie kept that promise? hasnt the necklace protected shauna all along? didnt jackie and javi's deaths keep shauna fed? wasnt shauna wearing the necklace when she gave birth? wasnt nat wearing it when she kept the cabin fire burning to keep them warm? when she led them into a little golden age so prosperous they were wasting food and playing games? wont coach bens death ultimately lead to them being home and safe again? every time the necklace changes hands it coincides with an action that keeps shauna alive. lottie's right, shauna doesn't understand what the necklace means but maybe that makes sense. she never really understood jackie either. jackie loved her and yet shauna chose to see only bad intentions, just like she does with the necklace. when it comes down to it maybe there is no wilderness, no nature spirit or god. maybe it was always just jackie.

I was high off my ass last night and had this dream where I was in this dense ass forest and sitting there was a tall woman. She was so tall I couldn’t see her face but she was wearing gold and I was like “uh…hi?” And she said “I made you, do you know that?” And I nodded and she was like “I hear your thoughts. Why do you hate my creation? Why do you try to destroy yourself? I made you perfect as you are. Please don’t break my heart”. Then she started crying and it flooded and I woke up with fucking heart palpitations like what does it Mean™️????
