don’t be scared to live lovingly. compliment your friends on the little things and cheer for live bands in small cafes and leave tips when you can. tell the person you saw that you really like their shirt and write cards and letters to the people you love. make playlists for people and don’t be afraid to express your appreciation for others. life is so much better when you live it with love.

Sharing my writing with other people is always going to feel vulnerable, no matter how many times I do it or how others respond. I doubt I'm the only one that gets nervous when posting online, so thought I'd share this:
1. Make sure I have a project or something to work on straight after posting
gives me something to think about other than how my fic is doing
stops me sitting there constantly refreshing ao3
ideally something not related to ff (so no WIPs)
2. Try to not look at tumblr/my ao3 until at least the next morning
gives me (hopefully) something to look forward to in the morning
keeps me from constantly checking if I know I'm going to check it all at once
my ao3 comment emails are disabled for this reason
having any other fics that I want to read open in their own tab also helps so I don't have to click on my user
3. Post about an hour before I'm planning to sleep
posting close to bedtime makes #2 easier, but
I also need to factor in time to calm down after the initial nerves
4. Read some other recently posted fics
partly I do this regardless of whether or not I've posted recently
but also it's nice reading other people's work knowing they're probably out there at that exact moment experiencing something similar
I've found some of my absolute fav ff writers this way
careful that if you do this you're not comparing
5. Be extra kind to myself
chances are my anxiety is going to be running high
this means I tend to be extra critical of myself for about a day after posting something
it helps to remind myself that there's a reason my inner critic is in hyperdrive
but that also means no reading, writing, or editing my own work
6. If nothing else, remember I had fun
remind myself that once the anxiety has passed I'll have a new chapter/fic from my favourite ff writer (me) to look forward to
and if even one other person reads it and enjoys it, I've made a new friend :)
Of course this is a checklist for the ideal scenario. There are other factors and days when my anxiety is already running high for other reasons. This isn't a set of commandments or a rulebook, it's a guide to help myself.
If it's not helping in the moment, I do something different.
TW: Pedophilia
Teenagers are rarely taught the reason why they can't consent to sex with adults.
And that's because teaching them that would completely unravel our coercion-based society.
It can be difficult to explain in detail the exact reason and all the specifics in a way that they will understand. But the simplest way to phrase it is that in some cases, even when someone agrees to something and even when they appear enthusiastic about it, there's too much of a power imbalance that it's no different than forcing them. Also, having power and being abusive doesn't require a conscious expectation to be obeyed.
Imagine a world in which every teenager understood that and was easily able to call out anyone who tried to convince them otherwise.
They'd know that there's no such thing as an employee consenting to working for a poverty wage, working in unsafe conditions, working long hours, or working without taking breaks. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to paying a bank overdraft fee. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to student loan debt. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to medical bills. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to generating profit for banks or landlords in order to have a place to live and being evicted or foreclosed when you lose your source of income. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to a police search. They'd know that there's no such thing as a child who's okay with their parents spanking them. They'd know that being dependent on someone does not mean that you can never criticize them. They'd know that if it's considered abusive to simply play along when someone obeys, then it has to be much more abusive to actively expect to be obeyed, which many adults do to them.
And people who benefit from a society based on coercion masquerading as freedom wouldn't like that.
So instead, teenagers are taught something dismissive. They're taught that what they want doesn't matter. They're taught that they're too young to know what love is. They're taught "it's the law". They're taught things that are insulting to their intelligence, which they'll naturally rebel against.
terrible news: the only way to find out if something you create is gonna be good or bad is to actually create it
hey ao3 can you like give the extra $38k you made from this month’s funds drive to charity
regulus would be the most insufferable person to do arts and crafts with. like its valentines day and the group gathers to make cards and have some fun, meanwhile regulus' running that shit like the navy asking you how hard can it be to draw a fucking heart?? have you ever even used scissors in your life?? just fold it in half and cut it!! ugh this is too much glitter!! what are you? savages?? guys what is this?? am i the only one who had four hours of calligraphy lessons everyday for six years?
