Nameless/Fitz/Fitzchivalry: The POV character, King-in-Waiting Chivalry’s bastard whose name is literally “Chivarly’s Bastard.” Prince Chivalry: Fitz’s father who never has an on-screen appearance. He was first in line to the throne but abdicates when Fitz shows up. Prince Verity: Chiv’s younger brother, the Nice Uncle who becomes the new King-in-Waiting. Honest as his name and good at sports. Prince Regal: Chivalry and Verity’s younger half-brother, the Mean Uncle. Vain and power hungry and has like negative three redeeming qualities. King Shrewd: Current king, kind of getting on in years but not yet totally decrepit. He’s an ends-justify-the-means guy but not in an evil way. Chade: King Shrewd’s older half-brother on the wrong side of the sheets. An assassin. Lives in the walls. Has a weasel. August: Fourth? Vixen: Burrich’s dog and Nosy’s mother. Good dog. Slink: A weasel belonging to Chade. MAGICS (I know magic is not a character, but they do have to be explained somewhere) The Wit: The ability to “bond” with certain animals and speak with them, as well as sense life force and to do a kind of mental shove at people. You tend to act a little like the animal you’ve bonded to. Witted people are considered gross and animalistic and are run out of town or put to death. The Skill: Telepathy. Considered the “birthright” of the Farseers. Most people can sense it at least a little, but it takes inborn talent and a lot of careful training to do anything useful with it. Skilling apparently feels awesome but if you give in to the temptation to fully open yourself to it you can get sucked out of your own  brain. and… fuck I think that’s it, I intended this to be quick and simple but nothing is fucking simple in this series. I’m gonna go take a nap.

Reading TBoSaS was an eye opening experience for me because for a minute I was like Katniss and Peeta had it so much better than Lucy and these other children who were treated like literal animals- transporting them like livestock and putting them in cages not to mention the very public, dehumanizing parades. But then I was horrified at myself because I couldn’t believe myself. It wasn’t better at all, Katniss and Peeta were brought there for the same exact purpose and putting them in fancy dresses and providing them with expensive amenities doesn’t take it away. It’s still the same horrible, wretched, gruesome tradition, I just thought it was better because it was also wrapped up nicely with a pretty bow which I guess was the whole point.

Thinking about how Phoenix and Miles are the opposite of predestined soulmates and how at every crucial juncture of their relationship it has been a deliberate and often difficult CHOICE.

Miles standing up for Phoenix in the classroom trial. Phoenix studying law and working in the same district to find Miles again. Miles surrendering his perfect record to convict the true criminal in the Powers case. Phoenix taking on an impossible case and believing in Miles’ innocence even when Miles himself didn’t. Miles leaving to make himself into a better person, and still coming back. Phoenix forgiving Miles for leaving. Miles dropping everything to be by Phoenix’s side when he was in trouble and risking everything to defend someone Phoenix believed in.

They come together, again and again and again, not by a quirk of fate but because they choose eachother, again and again and again, no matter how hard it is. I finally figured out what it was about IKSW that I didn't make a whole big splash about it unlike Casey's other two books. It's about the good, the bad and the ugly.

Shara had a secret. And to protect that secret she took an ugly, compicated, overcompensating road. Chloe wanted to define herself so went down with the 'Bad Bitch Deal With It'™ persona route. Smith figured out the clues about halfway through but kept silent. Most of the characters in IKSW do bad things, and as teenagers living in a stressful controlling environment, while it may not be justified, the source of their choices can absolutely be understood.

And that's something that's been missing in RWRB and OLS. Alex and Henry never do anything outright morally wrong. The OLS gang, as chaotic as they are, commit multiple felonies but not a moral wrong. Maybe they're grownups, maybe their circumstances are different, maybe Casey has progressed with their writing style. Either way, this is a new thing to have been introduced in the Mcquistonverse.

And let's face it, none of us likes having the ugly side of us being pointed out. And as brilliant an author Casey is, they've pointed something out to each of us that resonated, and those things are not necessarily sunshine and rainbows. Which means, we've put it away, let it wash over and forgotten about it. Because of course I'd rather read about Henry playing piano to Alex or Niko being a psychic plant dad than realize how angry and hurt and raging I've been as a teenager, and how much of that stemmed from the lack of emotional support from the people who were supposed to be it

I've posted several different resources on my blog but I'm consolidating them here for easy access and editing in the future, lmk if you find other good resources!

Master spreadsheet for builds of literally everyone, along with weapon and artifact refs- this spreadsheet helped me to learn how to build because the info is very clear and concentrated, so you pick up on patterns easier

This is a link to a spreadsheet that helps you determine whether to use atk, crit rate, or crit dmg on ur circlet slot; its niche but useful. Disclaimer: idk whether special cases like noelles c6 is taken into account here, im pretty sure its not.

Paimon.moe- overall just a super helpful resource, its big functions are a character/ weapon buliding schedule (incase you are buliding muliple characters/ get overwhelmed/ need a resin spending schedule) as well as analyzing and charting your wish history so you can see how much you wished on each banner and when you got 4*/5*s. It is safe to use since you dont give a password, it doesnt inject code into the game, and all the code is open-source.

Tips for New Genshin Players I wish I knew starting out!

1.) Every adventure has its end, take your time! There’s loads of stuff to do in this game and it can be easy when starting out to feel the need to steamroll through it all. Make it last! With the exception of time limited events there’s no reason to rush through it all in a few months. You’ll thank yourself later when you’re AR50+ and still have things to do outside of events/abyss.

2.) This is a gacha game first, and a PVE game second. While I firmly stand by the belief this game can be played 100% for free, it is designed to make you want to spend your money on it. If you are someone who struggles with impulse control or gambling addiction, I strongly caution you to be careful with this game. Know your spending limits and don’t let FOMO of a certain character or weapon convince you to make any risky financial decisions. Every character in this game is viable, including the free ones given at the start!

3.) You get 180 resin per day which caps at 160. Don’t waste your resin early game on artifacts because you’ll end up replacing them anyway. Instead, use your resin on exp materials, mora, talent and ascension materials. You’ll thank yourself later!

Do not get baited into using your fragile resin early on. Wait until you’re at least World Level 7 (AR45) before using this to get the most out of it!

4.) Level up your talents! Go to character profile > talents > level up. Most DPS characters you’ll want to prioritize Normal Attacks first, then Skill and Burst depending which one you use more. Support Characters will typically prioritize Burst and Skill over auto attacks. These are just general assumptions, every character is different so be sure to read through all of their talents to get a feel for how they work as a unit. (Ex: Yae Miko is a DPS but her damage is focused on skill and burst, not her normal attacks.)

5.) Know how wishes work! Intertwined Fates can be used on the Limited-Time Character & Weapon Banners, while Acquaint Fates can be used on the Permanent banner.

On all banners you are guaranteed at least one 4⭐️ every 10 wishes, and one 5⭐️ every 90 wishes. Soft pity for 5⭐️ starts around 70 pulls, meaning the odds are slightly higher. Use this to your advantage if there’s a character you’re saving for! You can check how many wishes you’ve made by looking at History on the respective banner’s main menu.

6.) More on wishes: The Standard and Weapon banners are a trap! Especially if you’re f2p, you should never use your primogems on these banners! The character rate up banner is much more valuable because it has a guarantee system in place.

If you do not pull the featured limited character on your first 5 star pull, you are guaranteed to get the limited character next time you pull a 5 star. This guarantee carries over to future rate ups as well, meaning if you pulled Qiqi on Venti’s banner, you can save for another limited character you like to get a rate up and get them guaranteed later on.

Because it’s a 50/50 chance and you cannot pull 5⭐️ weapons on the character banner, this is also the best way to get the non limited 5⭐️ characters Diluc, Jean, Keqing, Qiqi, and Mona.

The weapon and standard banners do not have a guarantee like this. You can pull and pull and pull and never get the character or weapon you’re looking for. By all means, use the free Acquaint Fates you get in game to wish on the standard banner, but never use your primos on standard banner! As for the weapon banner, I recommend you only pull on this banner if you (1) Are okay with pulling literally any 5⭐️ weapon, and (2) already have a good roster of 5 ⭐️ characters you like. Characters > Weapons all the way!

Edit: the weapon banner now has epitomized path, which lets you select which weapon you prefer. This is more for whales and dolphin players though, since it takes two failed 5⭐️ pulls (~240 wishes) to guarantee the weapon you selected. I strongly caution wishing here unless you have a good roster of characters, and again, are okay with pulling literally any 5⭐️ weapon.

7.) Use your resources wisely! Especially early game when you have so few characters it can be tempting to level them all up. Wait until you have a few characters that you really like first, and prioritize your main DPS unit over everyone else. Save your low level artifacts to use as fodder later on!

8.) Artifacts. Welcome to pain. As mentioned in number 1, do not waste your time farming artifacts until you’re AR45+. This is because before that world level you aren’t guaranteed 5⭐️ artifacts on your runs, which means they will end being replaced anyway once you do obtain 5⭐️ artifacts. I also do not recommend using your fragile resin on artifacts. They are way too RNG based you’re much better off using fragile resin to farm Leylines and Weapon/Talent ascension materials because you’re guaranteed to be get good drops and you’ll always need these types of items.

9.) Be careful playing with randoms in Co-Op. As a rule, I typically keep Co-Op turned off unless I’m playing with friends. Once you let someone in your world they can pretty much do anything aside from open your chests. Not the end of the world, but can be really crappy if they steal all the Cecilias or Wolfhooks you needed to build certain characters.

10.) BE AWARE OF SCAMMERS/HACKERS!

If miHoYo ever gives anything for free it will be through the game or an online event accessible through the game. I feel like this should be a little obvious, but there is a considerable amount of account theft/trading within the community so I’m making a point of it. Do not under any circumstances share your login information with anyone else. I also recommend using a unique email and password that is unshared with any other database, especially social media like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr etc (this is standard account safety). At the very least use a unique password and DO NOT fall for scam ads that say they give you free primogems. Again, miHoYo is giving anything for free it’s going to be in game.

11.) Once you can craft it, Condensed Resin is a huge time saver! It basically halves the time it takes to farm materials since it essentially lets you do two runs at once. The domain of Guyun, Windrise, and Dawn Winery are all great locations to farm Crystal flies!

12.) If you want to spend money without gambling, Welkin and BP are fantastic options that only cost $15 together for one month. Welkin alone is a great value for $5 and BP provides a shit ton of extra materials, resin, wishes, and really nice 4⭐️ weapons! Really great options if you want a little more out of the game without whaling 🐳

Noelle Build Guide

Noelle is a character that everyone has access to and is a fan favorite. She’s also been on several rate ups recently so I figured I’d go ahead and do a guide for everyone’s favorite shield maiden.

Role

Noelle is an interesting case because when you read her talents and kit she screams support, but she’s actually much better as a DPS....if built right. This is in large part due to her not regenerating energy well on her own. Generally, supports need good ER to be effective at their role. It’s one of the main reasons Bennett is so good at what he does. When a support can’t contribute energy particles to the rest of the team it makes them feel very clunky to play and outclassed by other supports.

Basically, Noelle is a support character that needs to be supported, so it’s honestly easier just to build her as a DPS.

She can be a bit challenging to build at c0 for this role, but doable. If your Noelle is c6 then she’s a monster.

Noelle can still be a great support, especially at c1+. She just needs other supports that can help her regenerate energy so she can keep her ult up.

Gameplay tip: When using her to heal use her spin charge attack to get the most healing per second

Talents

As a DPS prioritize Noelles normal attacks first, her Burst second and her shield last. As a support do the exact opposite!

Noelle’s talents ascend with books of Resistance, Hilichurl Masks and at higher levels, Dvalin’s Claw.

As a support Noelle is fine to stop at Lv70/80. As a DPS take her to Lv90

Weapons

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Redhorn Stonethresher; The Unforged; Wolf’s Gravestone; Skyward Pride

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Serpent Spine; Whiteblind; Blackcliff Slasher; Litchic Blade;

Redhorn Stonethresher is BiS. If your energy recharge is high enough, the BP weapon Serpent Spine is second best for main carry Noelle because she can abuse its passive. If ER is low Skyward Pride can be better than SS. If you don’t want to spend the $10 and don’t have any of the 5⭐️ listed above there are other options in the blackcliff and litchic claymores. Keep in mind that Atk% claymores like the Unforged and WGS are better than *most* 4 star options, but not as effective as the other options listed since Noelle scales off Defense, especially with c6.

The craftable weapon Whiteblind is BiS for support Noelle. It’s not really recommended for DPS as much as the other listed options though.

Artifacts

(4pc) Husk of Opulent Dreams; (2pc) Husk, (2pc) Archaic Petra; (4pc) Retracing Bolide; (4pc) Gladiator

If your Noelle is c6 Husk of Opulent Dreams is without a doubt the best set bonus to go for. Even prior to c6 It’s still the most consistent option.

Any of the above sets can work depending on what you want to get out of Noelle. For more healing, Maiden is the best bet but it can also be paired with Husk for stronger shield or retracing Bolide to make her more tanky during sweeping time. 🧹

Note: Defenders is better for overall stronger shield whereas Bolide is better if Noelle is on the field a lot. Bolide only affects the wearer, not the entire team.

Support Noelle keeps it simple with stats. Stack DEF% and ER and she’s good to go. Shoot for at least 180% ER

Team Comps

BiS teammates for Noelle are other geo characters that can help her regenerate energy particles. This is almost a necessity as a DPS to keep the uptime of her ult. Gorou is her best support as DPS.

Beyond Geo Resonance Noelle doesn’t really have too many limitations as far as team comps go. As a DPS she pairs well with sub DPS who can battery her to keep her ult up. Gorou, Zhongli and Albedo are amazing options if you have them. Bennett and Fischl are good partners for their shield breaking capabilities and Fischl’s off-field damage. Xingqiu is also a great battery. As a support you just swap Noelle in to tank damage and heal her your teammates with her charged attacks so really she works with anyone, but she will need a battery.

Noelle is a really cute character that comes in clutch if she’s built right. She is much better overall with her constellations but still viable even at c0. Her talents ascend with books of Resistance, Hilichurl Masks, and Dvalin’s Claw. Serpent Spine and Whiteblind are her best weapons for DPS and Support respectively. Husk of Opulent Dreams is her best artifact set.She relies on her teammates to regenerate energy for her since she can’t do it on her own.

seeing the "bakugou literally hates deku and will always hate deku, also he can never be forgiven from what he did in season 1" argument in the year 2021 and in the context of literally everything that has happened within the series is the funniest thing ever

"bakugou will always hate deku" when bakugou canonically

sees deku as a worthy rival (on the same level as/possibly higher than todoroki) and since UA, has never particularly considered deku to be weak

has been watching deku since the very beginning. he also pays very close attention to deku's moves when they fight

is the first student outside of deku to know about one for all and promised not to tell anyone about the secret, when he easily could if he really hated deku that much

actively helps deku with his training and figuring out more about the OFA holders

is capable of holding a normal conversation with deku now and is considerably more understanding, even after their awful history

has only genuinely broken down emotionally in front of deku, and has only been moderately comfortable with deku (and all might) seeing him as weak. as far as I'm aware, no other student has seen him cry before

is willing to die for deku. he is willing to lose everything - his quirk, his privileged life, his future - for deku

cares about deku and wants to keep him safe/alive because "something about him makes [bakugou] want to keep him at arm's length" (284)

doesn't seem to mind at all when deku, someone he supposedly "hates", calls him kacchan, an endearing, innocent childhood nickname even though they are both 16 and training to be mf heroes

loves deku platonically thanks to all the recent chapters, even if his own dumbass brain hasn't caught up to that yet. argue with the wall lmao

addressed that the shit he did to deku was terrible. he's taking full accountability for his past actions, which is something lots of kids his age IN REAL LIFE can't do yet. if you're gonna judge a fictional character by irl morals and ethics, at least be aware that plenty of bratty irl 16 year olds don't take the full blame when they fuck up because they're under the mindset that they're young and can afford to make big mistakes.

is actively trying to atone, and has probably been trying to do that since as early as deku vs kacchan part 2, which is fully animated in s3 and has been out for years now

doesn't want to take the easy way out of his wrongdoings (aka just asking for forgiveness and moving on). he told all might that he wants to atone, not deku. he wants to prove to deku that he's changing without deku automatically forgiving him

yeah, when he was 14. lol. I know that doesn't excuse something as extreme as a death threat but have you MET middle schoolers? I've had my fair share of shitty bully experiences throughout my adolescence and now that I'm older, I recognize that they were young themselves and have probably been going through their own troubles. still doesn't excuse it, but just take his fucking age and his background into account. he's also trying to atone for that shit so what else do u fucking need from this 16 year old trauma magnet lmfao

it's heavily implied that this comment was super out of nowhere, and nothing like what bakugou usually says to deku. his friends said that was really out of line. bakugou was probably also aware of how harsh it was. it's further shown in the small heroes rising promo manga, "deku and bakugou rising" (I think that's the name), that bakugou typically ignored deku and let him do his own thing, with only a couple mild verbal jabs here and there (the insults aren't even special to bakugou - deku was quirkless, meaning that he was getting teased by literally everyone in the messed up quirk society)

deku didn't take this comment to heart and canonically cared more about BAKUGOU'S reputation after saying something so insensitive. he never once thought about actually "taking a swan dive". he may have low self esteem but he's not THAT swayed by outside opinion. in fact, he's really fucking stubborn and nobody has phased him from his hero dream except all might, his literal childhood idol, in the second chapter/episode. and even that lasted for like 5 minutes lol

people are allowed to grow and change into better people, janica. that's called character development. it's called growth in the real world.

like shit dude you don't have to romantically ship bakudeku - hell you don't even have to like them as a duo - but at least acknowledge that horikoshi is putting bakugou through a real character arc. I promise you, the current bakugou/deku dynamic is much more appealing than your season 1 echo chamber. we've moved on from the "bakugou and deku can never be on good terms" boat. we passed that ages ago LMAO
