Summary: Sigma hopes to transcribe the universe’s melody, in hopes of awakening his true powers, but gets more than he bargains for when the government facility he has escaped from has found him once again.

Sigma sits in front of a piano. Not the Bechstein studio grand piano that used to sit in his apartment in The Hague but a cheap, upright Yamaha instead. He knows it is old just from the touch, the damp thud of the keys and the slow responsiveness of the pedals. Most aggravating of all is the tuning, the way the notes sound off to his ears. He does not have perfect pitch, and he never will, but if he concentrates hard enough, he can feel the shape of a note. Middle C is a yellow circle, and if he rises it up to a D, it transforms into an orange triangle. He hypothesizes that his abilities over gravity have given him a sensitivity to the electromagnetic waves that make up sound, but he cannot test this without rigorous testing. The beauty of these powers is that there are so many potential experiments and possibilities.

It’s been a long time since he’s played. Or at least, he thinks it’s been a long time. The last time he had touched a piano was one week before he went up to the international space station that caused his accident, but time is no longer linear and memories no longer make sense and he cannot say how many years have already passed since then. Has it been three years or longer? He cannot say.

He very much prefers listening to music rather than playing it, but he does not have that luxury. Talon is many things but it is not a musically inclined organization. His previous request for an parabolic microphone must have fallen upon flat ears for the next day he gets a regular microphone, the kind used for karaoke parties. It didn’t even have the batteries in it. So it is a miracle of sorts that his request for a piano got through. It was probably salvaged from a nearby dump, but it is still in working order, and he is grateful for whatever gifts Talon bestow upon him.

His body suddenly stiffens as he feels a shift in the air. He turns his head slowly, eyes wide as he finds himself staring back into his face. Only it’s not his face but another version of him, decked out in the orange jumpsuit that government facility crafted specifically for him. His copy smirks sinisterly.

 “Gravity is like sanity. All you need is a little push.”

“W-w-what?”

 “They called the geniuses of old insane back in their times.”

He is frozen in fear, staring into a face that is his but not his. The other approaches him and places his hands on his shoulders. He can feel the energy being sapped away from his body, his twisted mirror image growing larger, impossibly larger than him. As the energy leaves his body, he can feel his mind clearing. As his mind clears, he can see this twisted alter ego for what it truly is. It is sin, the devil in disguise. And behind that disguise is the black hole that destroyed his career and his mind. And it laughs. It laughs so viciously.

Coco Headcanons

It’s hard to see that the gangly youth is her grandpa. But sometimes Victoria could see glimpses of an old man in his eyes. Which would snap back into his cheerful chatter the moment he realizes Victoria is staring. 

Looking so young, most of the Rivera women dotes on him. Especially Elena after joined them and gave him a talking to. But when it comes to dealing with their peers that are being forgotten, Hector is their guide and rock. 

When they got a problem that’s out of their league, Hector always knows a guy (who may or may not be dabbling in something illegal or is annoyed at him).

Hector once helped Oscar and Felipe with a physics problem with his experience of driving a minivan off the flower bridge. All said in casually chipper tones.

Rosita and Victoria would glance at each other every time Hector would tease Imelda. It reminds them too much of how Coco would sweet-flirt Julio even after they’re married.

Hector once told them the time he was recruited into an archaeological expedition in the Land of the Dead after he unintentionally became an expert in trying to dig his way out of the Land of the Dead and into the ground below the flower bridge. (He wasn’t able to scale the other side of the bridge because he was caught before he could try the climber’s ice axe.)

No one would say it but they all agreed Imelda became more relaxed and smiled more often when Hector became part of their home.

The one time Hector’s anger (at everything that had happened) reared its ugly head, they knew they should’ve seen it coming. Yet not one of them were prepared for it.  

He didn’t shout. Nothing. He just left. Imelda, who didn’t know yet what’s his deal, tracked him down to Shantytown and demanded to know what’s going on. Hector kept saying he needs space to think. But Imelda’s confrontational attitude boxed him into the corner, that’s when it came tumbling out.

Everyone felt helpless when Imelda and Pepita returned with no Hector. Just when everything was going so well. 

Just like Slughorn, Albus Dumbledore collects people. Only, instead of focusing on those with influence, he looks to the outcasts.

The expelled half-giant. The young werewolf. The repentant Death Eater.

He protects them and gives them a second chance. All he asks in return is their loyalty.

And, if on occasion he requests that they undertake a certain task, invoking their debt of gratitude - well, that is no more than he is owed.

He once thought to add a certain disowned Black to his collection, but quickly realised his mistake.

Sirius is not an outcast, but a rebel. He knowingly chose his path, and chooses what price he is willing to pay for it. He refuses to be used.

So Albus Dumbledore abandons him.

why would you distort “Severus changed sides because of Lily” to “Severus only changed sides because of Lily”? Trying to save someone you care about is a pretty good reason imo.

no one asked but i never saw snape's story as a redemption arc, mainly because it turns out that for the entire length of the series he was already working on the side that is meant to be good so more like a revelation arc? not all of his actions were entirely great and they are not supposed to be, but many of the ones that made harry and co. hate him have different meanings when you see them in their full light like always being in the hallways catching harry out when the kid was wandering around (or making a beeline for the exact thing that is trying to kill him), he's not just trying to get harry in trouble but also trying to stop him from getting dead (a sisyphean task if there ever was one) i suppose snape's over-arching narrative must be considered a redemption narrative since it exists in a very strict good vs. evil/black-and-white world, but i don't know something seems "off" about that at least to my very specific brain...
