sorry but it’s sympathetic reading of agamemnon time, feel free to scroll past this if you don’t want to see agamemnon appreciation, but agamemnon is so interesting because he DOES learn from the lessons of his ancestors and from the cursed history of his house. he looks at his great-grandfather who killed and cooked his own son, his grandfather who betrayed and killed the man who helped him win his wife, and his father who killed his nephews and fed them to his brother (as well as previously killing his other brother), all three of them thoroughly cursed for their actions. and agamemnon takes away from that the message that godcrimes are a serious thing. not something to be trifled with. so he’s very very careful to live his life in keeping with the gods’ rules of right and wrong. when he’s offended artemis, he takes every possible measure to set things right with her, because he knows what happens when a god has it in for a man. he’s so hesitant to tread on the carpet clytemnestra lays out because he’s afraid of appearing over-proud and of offending the gods by rising above his place as a mortal. he makes so many sacrifices and is so careful to avoid getting on the bad side of the gods, any gods, because he knows what a terrible fate it is to have a god hate you.
and in doing so, he forgets to avoid getting on the bad side of other mortals. he does not consider what it might mean to be on their bad side. in the eyes of the gods he’s done nothing wrong– it was a god that ordered him to sacrifice iphigenia, and why should the gods concern themselves with petty mortal things like the seizure of briseis or the murder of the trojans? no godcrimes were committed, no godlaws broken, it’s not like it was wife-stealing or kin-slaying or the murder of a guest. slaves and trojans are fair game. by the rules set forth by the gods, he has been pious, afraid to misstep and careful to make amends. he forgets that other mortals may not see his actions the same way. he forgets the mortals have different ideas of right and wrong and that what is right and proper by the laws of the gods may not be so in the eyes of his wife or his comrades.

Hello!
Lately, this blog is mainly Encanto related, so if you get here looking for content about this beautiful movie, welcome! (previously, it was a Coco related blog, so I also have a lot of old content about it here)
Since I’ve been posting here my Encanto fics over these last weeks, and I’m still writing more, I wanted to make a pinned master list to put them all together. If you take a look at them, I hope you enjoy them, and thank you very much in advance for your time and comments and/or reblogs. They’re highly appreciated!
So welcome to the There’s so many stairs in Casa Madrigal collection!
It will always be the three of us When Pepa met Félix and she met Agustín, Julieta knew this would happen. They were in that age, after all. Everyone was making big decisions, choosing their paths. Everyone, except Bruno. Because, even if his look was always fixed in the future, he had never been fond of changes.
The life of her dreams Isabela was very different when she was twelve. She was louder, funnier, more energetic, more vocal, more ridiculous, a total jokester. She was braver, too. That’s why she didn’t hesitate when she asked Bruno for a vision. She really wanted to know if the life of her dreams would be hers someday. But she regretted it later, of course. Because her uncle’s vision taught her an important lesson: even good omens could turn into bad news.
And everyone always assumes the worst Three times in a row, Bruno was asked to look into his nieces’ future. The first one was Isabela, a perfectly good omen turned into an awful warning under his mother’s perfectionist look. The last one, the one that changed everything, was Mirabel, that fateful night full of fear and anxiety about a vanished door. But the one that hurt the most, the one that really made him reach his limit, was the second one. A request in the tiny voice of his dearest niece and a vision that made him wonder what was the point of having a miracle that felt like a curse.
In our darkest moment The triplets knew perfectly the story of the miracle’s origin. But even so, Bruno had wondered many times how would it be to live through something so extreme. Losing everything in a blink, turning around and discovering your life had radically changed forever in a matter of seconds. It was something that had given him nightmares when he was younger, and he had concluded he didn’t want to fully understand it. It was too much. The night Mirabel didn’t get her gift, however, he had no choice but to finally understand.
I’ll keep it updated as I post more! :D
Coco Headcanons
It’s hard to see that the gangly youth is her grandpa. But sometimes Victoria could see glimpses of an old man in his eyes. Which would snap back into his cheerful chatter the moment he realizes Victoria is staring.
Looking so young, most of the Rivera women dotes on him. Especially Elena after joined them and gave him a talking to. But when it comes to dealing with their peers that are being forgotten, Hector is their guide and rock.
When they got a problem that’s out of their league, Hector always knows a guy (who may or may not be dabbling in something illegal or is annoyed at him).
Hector once helped Oscar and Felipe with a physics problem with his experience of driving a minivan off the flower bridge. All said in casually chipper tones.
Rosita and Victoria would glance at each other every time Hector would tease Imelda. It reminds them too much of how Coco would sweet-flirt Julio even after they’re married.
Hector once told them the time he was recruited into an archaeological expedition in the Land of the Dead after he unintentionally became an expert in trying to dig his way out of the Land of the Dead and into the ground below the flower bridge. (He wasn’t able to scale the other side of the bridge because he was caught before he could try the climber’s ice axe.)
No one would say it but they all agreed Imelda became more relaxed and smiled more often when Hector became part of their home.
The one time Hector’s anger (at everything that had happened) reared its ugly head, they knew they should’ve seen it coming. Yet not one of them were prepared for it.
He didn’t shout. Nothing. He just left. Imelda, who didn’t know yet what’s his deal, tracked him down to Shantytown and demanded to know what’s going on. Hector kept saying he needs space to think. But Imelda’s confrontational attitude boxed him into the corner, that’s when it came tumbling out.
Everyone felt helpless when Imelda and Pepita returned with no Hector. Just when everything was going so well.
Book 3, chapter 18 ‘the Old Masters’
The Lives of the Gaang ep. 1 ‘Kyoshi’s advice’
Part 0
Random Strange Facts:
Papyrus is the only character to speak without an asterisk
Papyrus’s dialogue shakes on a consistent basis when no one else’s does
Papyrus is described as “forgettable,” something only mentioned elsewhere in context with Goner Kid and Gaster
Papyrus seems to be able to see what the player is looking at when he calls them (”THAT BAG OF DOG FOOD LOOKS FAMILIAR…”)
Papyrus seems to know that MTT has eyes before MTT becomes MTT Ex
Papyrus has a total of 2184 lines in the game—more than any other character, and almost as much as the narrator of the game, which is at 2418 lines. The next closest character is Undyne, with 1268 total lines.
Similar wording is used to describe Papyrus as it is to describe Gaster. (It’s rude to talk about someone who’s listening)
Papyrus’s theme, “Nyeh heh heh/Bonetrousle,” is used in all of the trailers of the game
Papyrus and Sans break the 4th wall in the stream greenlight trailer, which shocks Toriel
Papyrus flies/breaks the laws of physics casually and seemingly on a regular basis
Papyrus is one of the few characters that refers to gameplay mechanics (“PRESS [C] ON THE KEYBOARD FOR DATING HUD!” “HOLD UP LONGER TO JUMP HIGHER, JEEZ!”)
Papyrus says himself that he knows nothing about his hands because he always keeps his gloves on.
There is nothing, nothing known about his past before his showing up to Snowdin. By the end of the game and after some research, you can basically know more about Gaster and Sans than you do about Papyrus, despite him having the most dialogue in the game besides the narrator.
Papyrus has such control over his magic in his fight, that he can make his attacks do zero damage because he refuses to kill the human.
You are healed to full HP right before the Papyrus fight, as well as immediately after if you are captured.
Papyrus doesn’t seem to realize that Frisk is a kid, despite Frisk wearing a striped shirt, which is a common indicator for childhood in monster society. (is he unfamiliar with common monster culture, for some reason?)
Sans reads Papyrus bed time stories on a regular basis, but Papyrus himself never seems to sleep
The Undertale Q&A that Toby Fox did for Undertale’s anniversary revolves around Papyrus
His defense raises in the spare phase of his fight, unlike every other monster. He seems to be able to manipulate his own stats.
Relationships:
The two 4th wall breaking characters (Flowey and the Annoying Dog) seem to have a special interest in Papyrus
Annoying Dog:
Steals bone attacks on two separate occasions (Papyrus fight and aborted Genocide hangout, in which the “special attack” is hinted to be Gaster Blasters)
Steals bones in general on two occasions (Under Papyrus’s sink and during the hangout with Undyne)
Eats Papyrus’s lasagna
Snuggles with Papyrus
Flowey:
Says Papyrus started a “Flowey Fan Club”
Says Papyrus took a long time to get boring on his repeated runs
Asks Papyrus to call Frisk before the True lab, gather everyone together before the True Ending, and probably leave a note in Alphys’ trash can
Flowey is the only one who knows Papyrus’s favorite food, which is dinosaur oatmeal (no, it’s not spaghetti. Papyrus has never eaten it.)
When Flowey attacks the group during the True Pacifist fight, he binds everyone with two vines, except Papyrus–who he binds with four.
Sans (overlooking the bounteous brotherly goodness of the two):
Papyrus lies to him on a consistent basis
This is to probably humor Sans about his level of knowledge?
Papyrus still expects Sans to know more about Papyrus than Papyrus does himself?
Papyrus acts negatively towards Sans’s puns, but then turns around and makes the most (and arguably best) puns in the game out of anyone
Personality:
Doesn’t outwardly acknowledge criticism
According to Sans, he is trash-talked a lot
May have self-worth issues
Extremely blasé about his own death
Doesn’t seem to have friends, despite working very hard to get them
He phrases things in really strange ways. (”UNMANDATE IT SAFER”)
Papyrus staunchly refuses to really hurt people, despite it being very likely that he could be just as hard or harder of a fight than Sans
He has a strong and unshakeable belief that people can change (does he know this from personal experience?)
He hates Grillby’s and Hotland
He is an amazing artist
He considers himself a great chef, even if he doesn’t necessarily eat what he cooks
Quotes:
“DEADLY SPIKES, PRECARIOUS BRIDGES! TRULY THE PILLARS OF YOUTH!”
[when dying] “ALAS, POOR PAPYRUS. [this is quoting Shakespeare while he’s dying] WELL, AT LEAST I HAVE MY HEAD!”
“I WOULD NEVER TAKE A VACATION FOR ANY REASON!”
Undyne: “Papyrus… doesn’t know how to sleep??”
“I WANT TO MEET DEATH!”
“YOU CAN SEE YOUR REFLECTION IN A PUDDLE, BUT… DON’T LET A BODY OF WATER DETERMINE YOUR SELF WORTH!”
“IT’S MY LEAST FAVORITE NIGHTMARE!” – referring to Hotland lasers and conveyors
“A MYSTERIOUS SCIENCE HOUSE. […] LABORADOR-Y?” When talking about Alphys’s lab with Sans present.
“A LAB?? MY BROTHER WOULD LOVE THAT!” –when talking about Alphys’s lab without Sans present.
“ICE CREAM? THANKS, BUT I LIVE IN SNOWDIN! THERE’S ICE CREAM ALL OVER THE GROUND!” –when talking about ice cream when Sans is present.
“I TRIED TO CAPTURE YOU… WHERE’S MY ICE CREAM.” –when talking about ice cream without Sans present.
“STOP LOOKING IN MY EMPTY MAIL BOX. THAT’S MY EMPTINESS, NOT YOURS.”
“I AM A PRETTY BRUTAL KIND OF GUY.”
“HOTLAND! I KNOW IT LIKE THE BACK OF MY HAND. WHICH, SINCE I’M ALWAYS WEARING GLOVES… I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT!”
“WELL, IF YOU WANT TO GET SOMEONE TO OPEN UP, YOU SHOULD ENGAGE THEM IN COMBAT! HUM HUM HUM…” – before the Shyren encounter. This is one of the few times where Papyrus actually gives you something helpful, but how does he know?

@scverussnape, I hope you enjoy these!
Mentor/Teacher:
Harry Potter and the Enemy Within and Harry Potter and the Chained Souls by Theowyn of HPG - aka the holy grail of fan fiction, the first HP series I ever read and thought “I wish this was canon”. The characterization is so good, it feels as though I’m reading a different version of the actual books. I re-read this series at least once a year.
A Place for Warriors by owlsaway - the caption for this story does not even begin to do it justice. I cannot do it justice. The way the relationship between Snape and Harry grows is just *chef’s kiss*.
Emerald Eyes, Emerald Eyes: Fate’s Hand, and Mindful Eyes by JadeSullivan - Snape takes on a mentor role for Harry during his 2nd year. This author has an incredible way of describing the feelings in each moment that I find captivating. She hasn’t updated Mindful Eyes in a couple of years, but I have high hopes for her return!
O Mine Enemy by Kirby Lane - Snape is injured and ends up spending some time with Harry at the Dursley’s house. Once they are able to leave, Snape reluctantly takes on a mentor role for Harry. Harry begins having dreams predicting the future, causing him to question just how much he actually trusts Snape. Not only is this story excellently written - the writer just posted two new chapters for the first time in several years!
Walking the Line by hairballl26 - Snape is badly injured and turns up at the Dursley’s. He intends to hide from the muggles as best he can until he can recover or until help arrives, but inevitably, there is a terrible confrontation, and both he and Harry go on the run, trying to get to safety at Hogwarts and avoid the agents of the Dark Lord. ROAD TRIP FIC my favorite. Hasn’t updated since 2011, but I keep re-reading it anyway because I love it so much.
Behind Doors and Masks by dragonwriter24cmf - Headmaster Snape has decided to personally handle the troublemaker Neville Longbottom, but Neville uncovers his secret agent status. Now he has to help the boy survive an increasingly hostile Hogwarts, and train him to fight back. Ooooh boy is this fic all of the things I love. A close look at Snape during his time as Headmaster, and I love love love how she writes Neville.
Sectumsempra Splits the School by thegoldenfirebolt - Harry faces severe consequences for using the dark spell sectumsempra on Draco Malfoy. He has to work closely with younger students and the staff as part of his punishment. I didn’t expect to enjoy this fic as much as I do, but it offers this wonderful peek into the daily lives and relationships between the staff members that I greatly enjoyed.
Kept Behind and Dark Influences by LAXgirl - Harry is killed by a death eater, and only Snape can see his ghost. Through their connection, they try to find out if there is way to bring Harry back. I just really love any story that has Snape and Harry having to trust each other and work together, and these are really well written.
Severitus/adoption:
All the World’s a Stage by Alexannah - In a bid to gain control over the Boy Who Lived, Cornelius Fudge serves notice that he intends to adopt Harry Potter. Snape receives the notice, and since no one else is available, he manages to submit the paperwork just in time to adopt Harry instead. Now they just have to learn to live together. I very much want more of this story, and it hasn’t been updated in a couple of years, but it ends at a place that isn’t terrible.
The Unexpected Snape by Imablack - Harry Potter arrives for his first year at Hogwarts, but he doesn’t look like James Potter - he looks like Snape. It takes some time for them to address this fact. This has the most lovely slow growth of their relationship, from respect to trust to love.
Reading the Signs by goldencompass - During his first year, Harry is attacked and hurt by some older students holding grudges against the Boy Who Lived. Snape helps in his recovery, and Harry begins to trust and respect him, leading to a deeper understanding and relationship between them.
General Snape Fics:
The Pawn by ReeraTheRed - a short AU version of Snape’s confession to Dumbledore and the growth of trust between them in their early days working together. Makes me cry actual tears every time I read it.
The Wendell That Wasn’t by opalish - Snape’s ghost is stuck haunting Harry and Ginny, and they (or really Ginny) get their revenge. Absolute crack fic, hilariously funny.
The 11th Day of Hogwarts by lyras - This story is on livejournal, and is a short look at Snape’s time as Headmaster. He is supported by the portraits of the other headmasters, and trying to do what must be done under terrible circumstances. Very bittersweet.
Do you ever just stop and think about how if Ernesto hadn’t poisoned Héctor then they could have potentially starred in movies together and double-teamed dance numbers…
I mean I know Héctor wanted to go home but there’s nothing that says that in the future he could have been persuaded to have small parts in Ernesto’s movies as a cameo for them to sing together, especially if he wouldn’t be gone for super long…..
I just want golden age movie dance sequence with the boys 😂
new attempt at 432..... very much enjoying thjs one :-) guy who is shapes
ㅠㅠ
Here’s an old HP meta post about Snape I wrote right after The Deathly Hallows came out. I scavenged it from my deleted LJ and I’m reposting it here. Before you send me nasty asks, remember I wrote this over ten years ago!
