1. He did it to save Cade Yeager who Harold Attinger was about to shoot and...

2. Attinger was a prejudiced dick who had goodness knows how many Autobots killed. Attinger was scum. May he not rest in peace.

I liked the dynamic between Optimus and Cade. Optimus had been through a lot during the last years; fights, his friends died, difficult decisions and he and his Autobots was hunted and slaughtered. Optimus was alone and afraid (just think of the barn scene). He was f*cking afraid. In my opinion Cade is balm for his Spark, someone with whom he can talk and he trusts unconditionally at the end.
