Hi Diana! What are the children of each god forbidden to do? You talked about Venus and Pluto, but I’m curious about the rest. Thanks!

Traditional Worship of the Old Gods

I hail from an unbroken line of Greco-Roman pagans. Traditional worship is not something we do in our spare time. It is our way of life. In fact, it occupies the whole first third of our family grimoire. That is why I cannot possibly tell you everything. But here is a primer that should be enough for beginners.

Apollo, Lord of Light

Approach him for the first time after you have gained a significant victory in life. Offer it to him. Your medal, your trophy or simply your pride in your triumph. But do not greet him empty-handed, or he will leave you in the middle of your prayer.

He does not tolerate self-pity, so never come to him with yours. As his child, you were born with the potential to become a champion. Honor him by harnessing it, not by doubting its existence.

Offer him a music box… jewelry… honey… anything gold or that makes a beautiful symphony.

Diana, Lady of the Hunt

Approach her for the first time on a full moon at the witching hour. Do not dare come to her with a problem. She hurts anyone who introduces themselves already seeking a favor. She finds it opportunistic and disrespectful.

She demands that you honor your masculinity and femininity. Attain physical strength. Learn how to defend yourself. Wear your hair down. Keep it long. Have thin, light fabrics in your wardrobe.

Offer her weapons. A dagger, a knife, a gun. You want her protection. So arm her.

Mercury, Lord of the Mind

Approach him for the first time with your favorite book. Something thought-provoking you have owned and loved since childhood. Transfer the ownership to him. That is your first offering.

As his child, you were born with the ability to think critically. You may speak to him freely of your emotional pain. But never of anything caused by your idiocy. Avoid such mistakes, or fix them before you speak to him again.

Offer him handwritten quotes from literature. He prefers ancient writings. Write letters to people you cannot reach, and implore him to send them for you through dreams.

Venus, Lady of Love

Approach her for the first time at your most beautiful. Bathe. Wear your most glamorous attire. Paint your face. Do your hair. Wear jewelry. Bring her a freshly picked red rose and place it in a glass dome.

As her child, you cannot disrespect your natural beauty. Wearing colored contacts would be you complaining that she could have made your eyes prettier. Same goes for dyeing and perming your hair. Style it for an occasion, but otherwise wear it the way she gave it. No surgeries for the sake of vanity.

Offer her chocolates… perfume… anything luxurious or beautiful. She will protect your beauty, and give you even more.

Mars, Lord of the Battlefield

Approach him for the first time at a turbulent moment in your life. When you are battling an illness, poverty or villains. Give him a handwritten list of your ambitions.

As his child, you are not allowed to back down from a fight. He gave you the gift of drive and ambition. Apollo’s children are your leading rivals. He expects you to beat them.

Offer him steak or ribs you cooked yourself. They do not have to be beautifully presented. But use the best cuts only, and flavor them richly.

Jupiter, Lord of Abundance

Approach him for the first time after you have received a windfall. Winnings… a bonus… anything material. How ever much it is worth, give him ten percent, never to be spent.

As his child, you were born lucky. Money and happiness should come to you easily. You are to always count your blessings. That will make them multiply. But if you count your woes instead, he will also multiply them.

Offer him souvenirs from your travel. For that is how he wants his children to spend his gifts – on exploration and vacation.

Saturn, Lord of Earth

Approach him for the first time after a day of hard work. Recount to him all you have done in life and all you are still planning to do. He despises flattery but admires dedication.

As his child, your honest efforts will always be rewarded. Laziness will be punished. You are to take great care of your health, your possessions, your property. You must honor the physical and the material, for they are his domain.

Of all the gods, Saturn is the one who watches his children all the time. Your deeds and words, when matching, are counted as your offering.

Uranus, Lord of Chaos

Approach him for the first time after you have had a vivid dream or a waking vision. That lets him know you are indeed his to nurture. Otherwise, he will not accept your invitation.

As his child, you are not allowed to be normal. You are required to disrupt your community and society. Not with devilry, but with inventions, acts or words that are revolutionary. Declare to the world that you are psychic. If you hide his supernatural gifts, he will take them back and forever turn his back.

Offer him tokens. Anything unique, bizarre or strange. As long as it is priceless to you. Never offer him anything of no intellectual, creative or occult value.

Neptune, Lord of Mysticism

Approach him for the first time at your weakest. He loves comforting his children. Offer him your tears, so he knows you really need him. Tell him of your pains, and he will heal them.

As his child, you are not allowed to shy away from his supernatural gifts. He gave you the Sight so you can embrace the otherworldly. If you run away from your visions and premonitions, he will take them away… along with your sanity.

Offer him your own prose and verse. Stories and poems birthed by your imagination. Tell him of your psychic experiences and your desire for mystical intelligence.

Pluto, Lord of Death

Approach him for the first time when you have been wronged by someone you could not possibly avenge yourself from. Beg him for retribution. Come to him shaking with rage. Anything less will be ignored.

As his child, you were born with power. Power to control this world, and the one beneath it. The dark arts are as natural to you as breathing. Fully embrace them. So long as he feels your hunger for the occult, he will help you master it.

Offer him a list of your enemies, old and new. Never forgive and forget. Show him you crave his vengeance and protection. Place a black mirror on his altar. So that when you pray to him, he can see you, and you can see him.

Hello Diana! I absolutely love all your posts! When talking about tarot you recurrently talked about astrology could you tell us more about it please? Thank you for everything, have a lovely day

Tarot and Astrology

The stars are carved into the cards. A reader’s ability is fragmentary without knowledge of astrology.

Each Major Arcana is a sign or a planet. This is crucial when you are identifying people. Who will you marry? Who will your child be? A Pisces or an Aries?

The Fool is Uranus. They are both eccentric.

The Magician is Mercury. They are both intelligent.

The High Priestess is The Moon. They are both intuitive.

The Empress is Venus. They are the Queen of Queens.

The Emperor is Aries. They are natural leaders.

The Hierophant is Taurus. They embody stability.

The Lovers is Gemini. They represent duality.

The Chariot is Cancer. They carry their home with them.

Strength is Leo. They are the epitome of bravery.

The Hermit is Virgo. They are both analytical.

Wheel of Fortune is Jupiter. They are givers of abundance.

Justice is Libra. They both strive for fairness.

The Hanged Man is Neptune. They both love introspection.

Death is Scorpio. They are the masters of evolution.

Temperance is Sagittarius. Both need balance.

The Devil is Capricorn. Both are tied to the physical.

The Tower is Mars. They are destructive.

The Star is Aquarius. They both have many dreams.

The Moon is Pisces. They are the mystics.

The Sun is The Sun. They represent vitality.

Judgement is Pluto. They are both vindictive.

The World is Saturn. Commanders of the material.

And when predicting the future, the signs’ corresponding Court Cards indicate timing. When will your dream come true? A month from now or two?

Knight of Wands is Mutable Fire Sagittarius. End of November to most of December.

Queen of Wands is Cardinal Fire Aries. End of March to most of April.

King of Wands is Fixed Fire Leo. End of July to most of August.

Knight of Cups is Mutable Water Pisces. End of February to most of March.

Queen of Cups is Cardinal Water Cancer. End of June to most of July.

King of Cups is Fixed Water Scorpio. End of October to most of November.

Knight of Swords is Mutable Air Gemini. End of May to most of June.

Queen of Swords is Cardinal Air Libra. End of September to most of October.

King of Swords is Fixed Air Aquarius. End of January to most of February.

Knight of Pentacles is Mutable Earth Virgo. End of August to most of September.

Queen of Pentacles is Cardinal Earth Capricorn. End of December to most of January.

King of Pentacles is Fixed Earth Taurus. End of April to most of May.

Start here. If you can remember these, reading tarot will be a breeze.

Hi love! Thank you for all the work you do — your blog is incredible. I wanted to ask you about offerings. I know you mentioned dark chocolate when you do personal readings; what else do you use for offerings, and can you talk about them in general? I haven't seen anything about offerings on your blog, so my apologies if you answered this already! Thank you so much!

What You Can Offer the Old Gods

They do not live on mortal land. We kindly summon them to us. So before every offering, ask, “Will this be worth their journey or not?”

FOOD THAT SATISFIES

During a ritual or ceremony, offer them a full course meal, complete with fruit, meat, bread and wine. Something abundant, fragrant and befitting a god.

FOOD THAT IMPRESSES

When you come across unique food, give them some. Luxurious chocolates… a specialty from a city you visited… Anything worthy of their interest.

FOOD THAT TOUCHES

Each time you bake, give the first batch to the gods. Even if your sweets are nothing too remarkable or elegant, it is your effort that you offer.

OBJECTS THAT HONOR

A silver arrow for Diana. A porcelain shell for Venus. A music box for Apollo. Anything related to the gods’ identity, or whatever reflects their personality.

OBJECTS THAT CONNECT

A tarot deck… a scrying mirror… a rune set… Any conduit for visions or messages. Offer it up to the gods, so that they may speak to you through it.

OBJECTS THAT ENDEAR

A poem for Mercury… your trophy for Mars… your medal for Saturn… Even cheap items, if they mean something to you, will be something to them too.

Hey Diana, you often talk about strong placements of pluto, i'm curious about what does that mean on others planets

What It Means to be Plutonian, Venusian, Jupiterian…

Having your Sun and your Ascendant in Scorpio is not always enough for you to be considered Plutonian. And even if you have determined that Venus attended your birth, that may not be sufficient for you to be called Venusian.

What is required is a solid placement, which is achieved when on the day of your birth, a god was in his domains or in other places he enjoys, while forming conjunctions, sextiles or trines to energies that are compatible with him, as well as oppositions and squares to those that are not.

If you are Apollonian

Victory comes easily to you. Not only do you have the drive to achieve, you find yourself winning even in times when you did not work for it. Extended periods of gloomy weather have a negative effect on your mental strength and emotional stability.

If you are Dianic

Male or female, you possess masculine strength, even if outwardly you look obviously feminine. Your intuition is both a blessing and a curse to you. On one hand, it helps you navigate life. On the other, it tells you when your wishes will never come true.

If you are Mercurian

You have a way with words. Whether through speaking or writing, you can enchant people to trust your intentions. You straddle between introversion and extroversion. When with others, you crave being alone. When with yourself, you are thirsty for companions.

If you are Venusian

Even if you do not fit your society’s definition of beautiful, you are attractive anyway. Something about you is alluring to other people either way. But you will always yearn for more beauty, resulting in a hot and cold relationship with your self-esteem.

If you are Martian

You never back down in the face of opposition. You fight battles you do not even believe in just to spite your opponent. You will eternally struggle between choosing the path that serves yourself and others alike, and picking the one that puts you above them all.

If you are Jupiterian

Material abundance comes easily to you. Even when you think you are having a bout of lack, upon comparing your situation with that of your peers, you will still find yourself on top. Any display of selfishness from you is always punished harshly.

If you are Saturnian

You love structure, because it is how you climb the ladder of life. You despise people who cheat and take shortcuts. Your envy and jealousy make you suffer a crisis of faith occasionally. But you still stick to the rules and pursue a straight path at the end of the day.

If you are Uranian

There are days when you deem yourself a visionary, and days when you are sure you are a fool. Your occult powers make you think you are better than everybody, and yet you struggle with self-worth. Your friends are both your disease and your cure.

If you are Neptunian

You are not sure if your visions are real or simply manifestations of your rich imagination. Having faith in them will liberate you from your fears and insecurities. You are by default emotionally weak. It is a life-long mission for you to remedy this.

If you are Plutonian

You have a strong sense of justice that others do not understand. What to you is fairness they see as vengeance. What to you is self-love they dub as cruelty. Your darkness can be sensed by some animals. They will react to it with fear or aggression.

If you think none of this applies to you, it may be because you do not belong to any of these categories. Some natal charts are lukewarm, or in a more positive light, balanced: no particular god or goddess is clearly the reigning deity. This also happens when the god or goddess who attended your birth, is, upon closer look, being undermined by a rival lord.

Hi, Diana. I’m going to begin applying to law school in the fall and I’m terribly nervous about getting into my dream school. Do you know of any spells, incantation, sigils, or anything of the sort to aid my admittance? Thank you so much and I love reading this blog ✨

Hello, Diana I hope you're well, I love your posts They're very interesting and always end up learning something new after reading them.I read your post about signs of a powerful witch, and some of them may slightly apply to me, but generally, despite my great love for magic and witchcraft, I feel like I'm blocked, like in a soundproof room, unable to reach the magical o supernatural. I want to increase, or acquire, these abilities you said, could you recommend me what could I do?Thank you!

7 Ways to Strengthen Your Powers

1) Record Your Dreams

They are a portal to the future, parallel realities and other worlds. Keep a journal on your nightstand. Every morning, list down everything you saw and heard in your dreams. Dates, names and entire scenarios. Reread your journal every couple of weeks to see how the symbols manifested in your life. This is you learning to harvest prophecies in your sleep.

2) Log Your Predictions

If you read the cards, take a photo of every spread and write down your interpretation. If you scry, record your every vision. Leave a space in your notes so you can come back at a later date and comment on the correctness of your predictions. The more clearly you can see where you went right or wrong, the more you can strive towards precision.

3) Analyze People

When you interact with people, take the time to gaze at them and really listen to what they are saying. Soon enough you will be able to know what is going on inside their mind. You will catch gestures, expressions and intonations that reveal their true intentions. This logical exercise will awaken the magical side of mind-reading that may be latent inside you.

4) Embody Confidence

Whether you are extroverted or introverted, find your inner beauty and greatness, and give them a chance to come out of hiding. When you are confident in who you are, other people’s energy are drawn towards you, fueling your spirit. You also attract the attention of nearby entities who may choose to reveal their presence to you and grant you favors.

5) Level Up Your Spellwork

Most of the spells you will find on the internet serve as therapeutic activities that may make you feel better psychologically or emotionally, but have no real magic in them. I recommend acquiring a copy of Witchcraft: A Handbook of Magic Spells and Potions (2016) by Anastasia Greywolf. It is a good introduction to authentic spells from all around the world.

6) Learn Your Natal Chart

The sky when you were born is a map of your gifts and strengths. A great dancer will never torture herself for not being able to sing well. Song is not her craft, movement is. You too must hone the skills you have the potential for. Astro-charts is easy to navigate and offers a free service with the option to switch between different astrological systems.

7) Find Your Divination Method

Not everyone will be great at reading tarot or Lenormand. Perhaps your true talent lies in evoking visions from a crystal ball or in calculating the future through the stars. I recommend grabbing a copy of The Divination Handbook (2019) by Liz Dean for a good overview of your options. And feel free to explore this list at your leisure.

How to Use Tarot to Protect Someone

The tarot posts here on Tumblr offer a lot of misinformation because I've seen so much contradicting info on what parts of life the minor suits represent. You're the only one I trust to actually know the correct assignments so can you please enlighten me? Would mean a lot! Thanks Lady Di!

YOUR LIFE AND THE SUITS IN TAROT

Wands are your passions.

The Ace of Wands could mean finding a new hobby, like painting or hiking. The Two of Wands could mean planning the renovation of your home, if interior design or woodworking is among your passions.

Passion is related to creativity. So the Six of Wands could mean your Instagram posts gaining a lot of attention, if you are into fashion or photography.

And we tend to be very passionate about our favorite celebrities and our crushes, so the Eight of Wands could mean receiving attention from someone famous or somebody you are interested in.

Cups are your emotions.

The Ace of Cups could mean the arrival of a new lover, while the Two of Cups could mean romance blooming between you and a friend

Emotions are not always positive. Sometimes it is as if they do not even exist, like in the Four of Cups, where you are bored from feeling nothing. Other times they are negative, like in the Five of Cups, where you could be grieving a death or a breakup.

The Page of Cups could be an invitation to go out on a date. The Knight of Cups could be a marriage proposal. Both offers involve strong emotions.

Swords are your thoughts.

These thoughts could be mundane, like the Two of Swords asking you to decide between steak and salmon for dinner.

Other times, they could be of the higher kind, such as the Four of Swords conveying that your mind is at peace, because you have found your true spiritual path.

Most of the time, though, these thoughts are about day to day affairs, such as the Page of Swords confirming that you will get the job, or the Eight of Swords predicting how stressed you will be because of an exam.

Pentacles are your foundations.

Since we are living in a material world, most of our foundations are material. The Ace of Pentacles could mean starting at a new job, while the Six of Pentacles could mean receiving a bonus.

Foundations are related to stability. So the Five of Pentacles does not necessarily mean you will lose everything and become a beggar. It could simply be predicting that you will suffer a salary deduction because of the pandemic, causing you to feel less financially stable than usual.

For this reason, the King of Pentacles is the most stable figure in this arcana, closely followed by the Queen and the Knight.

They often overlap.

Because all of life overlaps.

If what you are most passionate about is money, then when the Suit of Wands talks to you, it would be speaking about finances, instead of hobbies. And if you are emotionally focused on spirituality, then instead of symbolizing a new lover, the Ace of Cups could mean a new religious journey.

The Three of Swords, for example, is about heartbreak. So why is it not under the Suit of Cups? Because when we are heartbroken, our heart is actually quiet. It is our mind that screams in pain, and that is the Suit of Swords’ domain.

You mentioned making offerings in one of your posts, how do you make offerings without 'wasting' things and leaving out to rot?

Nothing offered to the old gods is wasted.

Every token I have presented to them has been reciprocated with material gain or prophetic visions. But even if none of it was… it is called an offering, not a transaction.

Here is how my grandmother taught me to keep an altar:

image

1) Draw the deities’ portraits yourself.

If a witch is not endowed with the gift of art, someone of her blood must draw them instead. The Fates are as they appear in my visions, and Botticelli’s Venus is the only one I acknowledge.

2) Use only a white candle.

Red is for malevolent spells. Gray is for everything else. But when worshipping the goddesses, white is the only acceptable candle, for the strength of its brightness mirrors the brilliance of their power.

3) Always give an offering.

I favor dark chocolate. Sweetness for Venus’ benevolence. Bitterness for the Fates’ unbending fairness. They are replaced regularly and disposed of respectfully. They are not ours to consume.

4) Leave a rose for Venus.

The prettiest flower for the prettiest goddess.

5) Leave a book for the Fates.

Mortals’ tales to entertain the authors of life itself.

6) Place a divination instrument.

A conduit between the witch and her higher power.

7) Make it your grimoire’s home.

So that your goddesses may forever keep potent the ancient words in it.

8) Have altar cloths.

With the exception of the grimoire, everything is property of the deities, and needs a cloth beneath.

9) Have a small carpet.

An altar must never touch the ground. There must be something that elevates it, for its purpose is sacred.

These are the elements that reside in our shrines. They do not have to be expensive. There does not need to be excess. Our intention is what makes them priceless.

Hi! I was wondering if there are ways to dress in order to honor the gods (colour, material, style etc.)? I can't be open about my beliefs in day to day life, but it would be nice if I could keep the god I follow in mind when choosing my clothes for the day. Also, a big thank you!! Your blog has been very helpful❤

How to Dress for the Old Gods

When you do it to honor, instead of to imitate the gods, you might constantly be blessed.

Apollo, Lord of Light

Golden and white fabrics. Anything that gleams when the light strikes it.

Diana, Lady of the Hunt

Silver jewelries, thin cloths. Accessories sharp enough to double as weapons.

Mercury, Lord of the Intellect

Dignified headpiece or hairstyle. Something that shows you respect your mind.

Venus, Lady of Love

Red silk and velvet. Seductive, warming fabrics that exude confidence.

Mars, Lord of the Battlefield

Leather fabric, steel accessories. Whatever instills fear in your enemies.

Jupiter, Lord of Abundance

Any fabric that flows and stretches. Purples and violets, the shades of wealth.

Saturn, Lord of the Harvest

Brown and green, colors of the earth. Never ostentatious. Durable and practical.

Uranus, Lord of Chaos

Mismatching materials and pieces. The brightest and boldest combinations.

Neptune, Lord of Mysticism

All shades of blue, lightest to darkest. Natural fabrics, handmade accessories.

Pluto, Lord of the Underworld

Black. Upscale, not goth. Other than Venus, he is the most elegant of the gods.

I was touched by what you shared about your birth gods. It prompted me to learn what was my own birth god, which led me to discover that my dominant signs are my sun and moon signs (Capricorn, Aquarius) they appear so often in my chart it was rather shocking. This told me that Saturn is the god that visited me at birth. Could you share a little about Saturn/Kronos? I am tremendously grateful for your guidance, and patience in sharing your knowledge with us.

The Greco-Roman Gods as Parents

Apollo, Ruler of the Sun, Giver of Victory

His children tend to excel in sports and highly competitive fields. Not only does he bestow upon them medals and trophies, he also makes them charming, enabling them to win the hearts of people too.

Diana, Ruler of the Moon, Giver of Fertility

She grants her children a fertile mind and intuition. If they embrace their feminine energy, they do well as therapists and counsellors. But if they embrace the masculine, they excel as strategists and politicians.

Mercury, Giver of Intelligence

His children are born with a superior mind. Some use it deceitfully, others fairly. He does not give knowledge itself, but the ability to manipulate others and to look and see more than what is visible.

Venus, Giver of Harmony

She gifts her children beauty in themselves, their environment and their tastes. Beauty and abundance together create harmony. But while the first is given at birth, the other has to be earned.

Mars, Giver of Drive

His children find themselves at the very top of the corporate ladder. Having received the gift of ambition, they tend to become highly successful, but unfortunately, not half as likable.

Jupiter, Giver of Wealth

He is a generous father. Rarely does he make his children work for his gift. He mostly just showers them with it. That is why they tend to be slightly lazy. Their life now and then can be very easy.

Saturn, Giver of Strength

The father of fathers, he invented tough love. Unlike Jupiter, he makes his children work hard. Any abundance and victory they earn, he wants to be permanent. So he tests them until they gain true strength.

Uranus, Giver of Audacity

His children are either ridiculously smart or foolish. Either way, they share a sense of heightened daringness. They turn out to be their generation’s greatest innovators, evil geniuses or village idiots.

Neptune, Giver of Sight

His children are born with Second Sight. He also grants them romanticism and creativity, along with mysticism. The catch? Given the eccentric way they present themselves, people rarely believe them.

Pluto, Giver of Power

His children are the most powerful of all. But they rarely scream about it. They like to control their cousins from behind the scenes. He gifts them occult abilities and the drive and strength to wield them.

Hello Diana, thank you for running this blog, it is a valuable resource to all of us! I saw that you recommended Witchcraft: A Handbook of Magic Spells and Potions by Anastasia Greywolf and I have found it to be a brilliant book. But so many other 'spell books', etc., are just rhymes with little thought put into them. Do you have any tips on discovering 'true' witchcraft sources?

5 Signs that a Spell Book is Authentic

1) It has Christian or Biblical elements.

As I have shared before, my ancestors were among many pagans who dressed up their incantations in Catholic disguise to avoid persecution and prying eyes. So if you see words that sound like a Christian prayer, names of saints, or verses from the Bible, then the spells are likely old and were used by earlier pagans — not invented by New Age Christians.

2) Google Translate cannot decipher all the words.

When a foreign spell can be translated to English perfectly, it may have been reverse-engineered. Which means someone wrote it in English then translated it to Latin or another old language to fake heritage. Witches used to tweak their grimoires, using the wrong vowel or symbol here and there, so as to encrypt their orisons. Real spells should be “imperfect” when translated. Which brings me to my third point:

3) Most of the orisons are not in English.

Not because “English is too mainstream”, but because pagans from other cultures all over the world were still creating and strengthening their spells by the time practicing witchcraft had become fatal in the English-speaking world. In other words, the growth of English-language spells was stunted and killed while everything else was still thriving. But feel free to perform modern English spells, if you are of the belief that such incantations are just as potent as the ancients.

4) Some details are quite disturbing.

In line with the above, remember that witches of the past did not live by today’s politically correct standards. Spell books that mention gutting animals or taking a drop of your neighbor’s blood while she’s asleep are most likely copied from authentic sources. Which is not to say that we should do such things now. But a spell that is all sugar, spice and everything nice is unlikely to have any old roots.

5) There are inconsistencies or gaps in the instructions.

Unlike in today’s tumblr posts and YouTube videos, where spell instructions are step-by-step, grimoires of the past were, again, encrypted. So that the authorities or anyone undeserving can try the spells but gain nothing from them. An initiated witch would have been taught how to recognize the “code names” and ignite all the necessary flames.

Hi Diana, as someone who is learning to read trines, squares & oppositions can you tell us what aspects help show the deities present at our birth? I have been drawn to Pluto most, but am wondering about Saturn, Venus & Diana. Most of my signs are in my Sun in 2nd, Capricorn. My moon, in Pisces, fourth house& I have pluto in Scorpio, 12th house. I also have Moon trine Pluto. Is that trine significant? Any help you can give is amazing, your blog is one of the few on Greco-Roman Deities I trust 💜

How a God Becomes Your Parent

Your astrological parent is the divinity who was reigning at the moment of your birth. How can you tell which god that is? I previously explained it to intermediate astrologers. I am now doing the same for beginners.

Step 1: Look at Your Signs

Which Zodiac sign appears the most in your natal chart? If you see Gemini once, Scorpio once, Libra thrice and Pisces six times, it means Neptune (Ruler of Pisces) greatly outranks Mercury (Ruler of Gemini), Pluto (Ruler of Scorpio) and Venus (Ruler of Libra) in your life.

(To see which god rules which sign, click here. Use this too for the next step.)

Step 2: Look at Your Houses

Which of your Houses is the most occupied? If you see just two planets each in your First House and Fourth House, three planets in your Fifth House and four planets in your Twelfth House, it means Neptune (Ruler of the Twelfth House) outranks Mars (Ruler of the First), Diana (Ruler of the Fourth) and Apollo (Ruler of the Fifth).

(For a sample natal chart calculation, click here.)

Step 3: Look at Your Aspects

The first two steps are sufficient to determine your divine parent. In both signs and Houses, Neptune won. He is the god who was present at your birth.

So why look at the aspects? It is one of the factors that will allow you to call yourself Neptunian. Because a god attending your birth only means he will give you presents and keep you safe now and then. (If you approach him, that is.) But if his presence is strong even in your aspects, then you might just be entitled to carrying his name, and that means you will be among the most beloved of all his children.

CONJUNCTION

This is when two gods find themselves in the same room. We do not know if they will get along.

OPPOSITION

This is when two gods, annoyed with each other, are giving one another the cold shoulder.

SQUARE

This is when two gods are having a battle – hitting, kicking, cursing, cutting up each other.

SEXTILE

This is when two gods are drinking wine together, jesting and laughing with each other.

TRINE

This is when two gods have set their differences aside and made a pact to support each other.

If Neptune is squaring Saturn in your natal chart, that is good for you. These two do not get along. The fact that they were fighting at the time of your birth means Neptune was very much himself in that moment. And if Neptune is trining Uranus, even better. These gods like each other. It means at the moment of your birth, your father was having fun with a friend.

If a god’s dominance in your signs and Houses is clearly undisputed, and your aspects reflect his or her rivalries and alliances, it means you can carry their name, and there are many wonderful favors you can surely claim.

Dear Lady Diana, just 2 days on your blog taught me true pride as a witch. Everyone else on here talks about witchcraft as if it's just a fandom. Thank you for being diffrent. But I apologise in advance because I'm aware my question would sounds stupid to you.😪 Here it is anyway. If My Sun is in Libra, do I count that as 1 point for Lord Apollo (Sun) or 1 point toward Goddess Venus (Libra)? I'm sorry. I usually do plant magic. So lost with astrology.😪 Thank you so much.

HOW A GOD BECOMES YOUR PARENT: SAMPLE NATAL CHART

Click the above link and read carefully before you proceed.

PART 1: Finding Your Dominant Zodiac Sign

image

In the above chart, anyone will notice that Taurus appears the most. There are four planets in it: the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Who rules Taurus? Venus. So Venus gets 4 points. Plus 1 more, because the Sun is double. Venus gets 5 points.

One will also notice that Aries appears twice. Because there are two planets in it: Mercury and Venus. Who rules Aries? Mars. Mars gets 2 points.

Aquarius too appears twice. The two planets in it are Uranus and Neptune. Who rules Aquarius? Uranus. Uranus gets 2 points.

A third Zodiac sign appears twice. Sagittarius. The two planets in it are the Moon and Pluto. Who rules Sagittarius? Jupiter. Jupiter gets 2 points.

All the 10 planets have been covered. The North Node, Chiron and MC are not planets. They do not matter. They should not be counted.

So what is left? The Ascendant, which is very important. Where is the Ascendant? In Libra. Who rules Libra? Venus. That is 1 more point for Venus. And another, because like the Sun, the Ascendant is double. Venus gets 2 points.

If we combine Venus’ 5 points as Taurus and her 2 points as Libra, then all in all, Venus gets 7 points.

Obviously, 7 is more than 2. So Venus defeats Mars, Uranus and Jupiter in Part 1. The Goddess of Love and Beauty could very well be your divine parent. But we are not done yet.

PART 2: Finding Your Dominant House

image

Take one look, and you will see that out of the twelve Houses, only five contain planets. So there are only five contenders.

Take another look, and you will see that one of these Houses contains as many as three planets. The 7th House. It has the Sun, Jupiter and Saturn. Who rules the 7th House? Venus in Libra. Venus gets 3 points. Not 4. Because in Part 2, the Sun is no longer counted twice.

What are the other Houses with planets?

The 2nd House. It has the Moon and Pluto. Who rules the 2nd House? Venus in Taurus. Venus gets 2 points.

The 4th House. It has Uranus and Neptune. Who rules the 4th House? The Moon, which is the domain of Diana. Diana gets 2 points.

The 6th House. It has Mercury and Venus. Who rules the 6th House? Mercury in Virgo. Mercury gets 2 points.

The 8th House. It has Mars. Who rules the 8th House? Pluto. Pluto gets 1 point.

All the 10 planets have been covered. Chiron and the North Node are not planets. They do not matter. They should not be counted.

If we combine Venus’ 3 points in the 7th House and her 2 points in the 2nd House, then all in all, Venus gets 5 points.

Obviously, 5 is more than 2 or 1. So Venus defeats Diana, Mercury and Pluto in Part 2.

The Goddess of Love and Beauty dominates your Zodiac signs with 7 points and your Houses with 5 points. Overall, she has 12 points. Venus is therefore your sole divine parent. There is no doubt about it. You can stop reading, if you wish.

PART 3: Figuring Out the What Ifs

What if Venus dominates the Zodiac signs but Pluto dominates the Houses?

Then compare Venus’ and Pluto’s points. If Venus has a total of 10 points, and Pluto has a total of 5, well, 10 is more than 5. Venus is still your sole divine parent.

What if it is a tie?

If Venus has a total of 8 points, and Pluto also has 8, then you have two divine parents. Congrats.

What if it is close, but not a tie?

If Venus has a total of 9 points and Pluto has a total of 7, then you still have two divine parents. Because a difference of 2 is too little. But 3 is too much.

What if another planet ties my second parent? Does that mean I have three divine parents?

No. If Pluto and Saturn are tied in second place, then stop looking at your chart, and start looking within. Your identity... your temperament... your tendencies... your attitude... your behavior... Is it Pluto or Saturn who reflects them? Only you can tell. If you answered Pluto, then along with Venus, he is your divine parent. Saturn would still strongly influence your life, but if you call upon him, do not be surprised if he ignores you. Your connection is not that strong.

What if I have no clear dominant planet? What if three planets are tied to begin with?

If Venus gets a total of 6 points, and so do Pluto and Saturn, you still do not have three divine parents. In fact, you have no divine parent at all. Your chart is what my family calls lukewarm. On the negative side, if you call upon the three, none of them may respond. On the positive side, your emotional and mental state are likely to be balanced. You have the potential to become a well-rounded person.

Hey Lady Diana, I was wondering if there are any ways you can share to protect a grimoire. Thank you for all of the knowledge you've shared!

How to Enchant Your Grimoire

Our family grimoire, our personal “semi-grimoires”, and our various journals may be different in size, content and purpose, but there is one thing they all share: they have a curse on the first page.

This curse must be written by you, in your own words, using your mother tongue, and invoking the might of your higher powers.

1) Written by You

Handwritten, not typed. The act of writing is an act of creating.

2) Your Own Words

Do not use someone else’s. The words must come from your soul.

3) Your Mother Tongue

This will help call the attention of your bloodline’s predecessors.

4) Your Higher Powers

This curse is powered by the strength of your divine benefactors.

5) Time and Place

Inscribe the words at the witching hour, in your sacred space.

6) Strength of Intent

Depending on your faith, a cursed grimoire should be indestructible.

Sample Inscription

Through the gifts bestowed upon me by the Lords of the Occult: Uranus, Neptune, Pluto…

By the wisdom, power and might of the Fates: Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos…

In the name of my astrological ruler, Venus: Goddess of Love, Beauty, Harmony…

Anyone who has the slightest malicious intent towards me, who so much as lays eyes on any page of this grimoire, shall suffer an agonizingly long and mercilessly painful existence, until he or she kneels before me and seeks my forgiveness.

Dear Diana, everybody's talking about Mars Retrograde like it's the worst thing. But the way you talk about Mars is a good energy. That he gives ambition and courage and all. Any advice for us please? Thank you for your time and generosity.

How to Take Advantage of Mars Retrograde

What is Mars retrograde? Well, Mars is the source of your drive and tenacity — your will to fight and live. And to “retrograde” means to move backwards. So from September 9th to November 13th, mimic Mars’ movement. Do your best to look back, and reclaim any strengths that you have lost along the years.

If Mars is in your First House

Regain your lost ego. Perhaps you considered yourself a genius as a student but now see yourself as an average adult. Remember what made you great back then. Embrace it again.

If Mars is in your Second House

Remember what you used to value but no longer care about. Perhaps you used to be into fashion or makeup. Maybe it is time to start a beauty vlog. You could now gain income from that.

If Mars is in your Third House

The way you used to communicate made people hear you and respect your opinion. Have you given up your truths so as not to offend anyone? Time to find your voice again.

If Mars is in your Fourth House

What did your first real home look like? Try to mimic its design or atmosphere in your current space. It will give you a sense of comfort and belonging that you have not felt in years.

If Mars is in your Fifth House

When you were younger, what were you deeply passionate about? What made you happy? Animé? Art? Music? Whatever it is, if you revisit it, it can give you fulfillment.

If Mars is in your Sixth House

Think back to when you were at your fittest and healthiest. What food did you eat back then? Any exercise routine you practiced? It is time to recommit yourself to it.

If Mars is in your Seventh House

Which of your old friends always made you feel good about yourself? Perhaps it is time to reconnect. If that is not possible, at least surround yourself now with similar people.

If Mars is in your Eighth House

What was it that made you a better person before than you are now? Was it how you treated others? Was it where you lived or how you looked? It is time to transform into that again.

If Mars is in your Ninth House

Your old philosophy in life got you through many challenges. What was it? A quote from your favorite movie? Something you read in a book? It is time to live again by those words.

If Mars is in your Tenth House

You were once certain you had a purpose in this world. A great destiny to fulfill. If you have lost that belief, embody your childhood self and look for it. It is time to find new meaning.

If Mars is in your Eleventh House

Were you friendlier and more outgoing before? While it is great that you have become independent, it is time to belong to a community again. In others, you will find even more strength.

If Mars is in your Twelfth House

What were your earliest dreams as a child? To own a theme park? To become a lawyer? Or an astronaut? Whatever they are, they will lead you to a clue as to what you should be doing now.

Hello, Lady Diana! What are some blogs and grimoires that have spells that you trust? With the abundance of spells on the internet, it’s impossible to know which ones are real/trustworthy and which ones aren’t. Thanks for your help! 💕💕

Thank you Diana for being the only one here brave enough to voice out difficult truths about witchcraft. Yes, in my experience too even the kindly fae hurt weak willed witches as you call them. A fickle witch is like a fickle boyfriend. You'll make the fae feel like they're in an unstable connection, like they can't trust you! So please, guys, don't talk to an entity if you're just gonna be afraid of them after!

You literally just changed my life with the last ask you answered. I never fully understood astrology because my asteroids contradict my planets and my aspects contradict my placements. But when you listed the order of their importance, NOW my chart reflects who I am. Genius. But I do have a question. How much should we let our chart dictate our life? Can we fight the more negative parts? Some of us are lucky to have a 'good' chart but what of those who don't? Thanks very much my dear Diana!

Your Natal Chart’s Role in Your Life

If life is a video game, then the player is your higher self, the character being played is your current incarnation, and that character's list of weapons, weaknesses and strengths is your natal chart.

A character who only has a knife may have better precision than someone who has a gun. He is not necessarily the weaker one.

A character who is unmatched at lockpicking or punching people could still be helpless if they get stuck in a quicksand.

A character whose weakness is alligators will be perfectly fine, if she is smart enough to stay away from swamps.

While our natal chart dictates what tools we have to win at life, it is up to us to sharpen or reforge those tools to our advantage.

When the character is falling short, the player needs to rely on their own resourcefulness. Similarly, when you feel like giving up, it is time to ask your higher self for help.

Dear Diana, how can I calculate my dominant element and modality? Thank you🙏

HOW TO FIND YOUR DOMINANT ELEMENT AND MODALITY

Step 1: Create your natal chart.

If you do not know how to do this yourself, here are some natal chart generators. Co-Star is the one I use below. Let us talk about it as if it is yours.

Step 2: Identify the players.

Depending on the natal chart generator you use, you could also see the asteroids and the nodes. But the only players that matter are the 10 astrological planets and the Ascendant, highlighted below.

image

Step 3: Identify your Zodiac signs.

“Your” Zodiac signs are the Zodiac signs where the 11 players are. Out of the 12 Zodiac signs, there are 6 that you can call yours, highlighted below.

Step 4: Tally your Zodiac signs.

How many players do you have in each of your Zodiac signs?

Capricorn – 3 (Ascendant + Uranus + Neptune)

Scorpio – 3 (Mars + Pluto + Sun)

Aquarius – 2 (Saturn + Moon)

Virgo – 1 (Jupiter)

Libra – 1 (Venus)

Sagittarius – 1 (Mercury)

Step 5: Tally your elements.

Use these correspondences:

FIRE – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

EARTH – Capricorn, Taurus, Virgo

AIR – Libra, Aquarius, Gemini

WATER – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Capricorn having 3 players in it means 3 points for Earth.

Scorpio having 3 players in it means 3 points for Water.

Aquarius having 2 players in it means 2 points for Air.

Virgo having 1 player in it means 1 point for Earth.

Libra having 1 player in it means 1 point for Air.

Sagittarius having 1 player in it means 1 point for Fire.

So far, Earth leads with 4 points. Water and Air follow with 3 points each. Fire gets 1.

Now, identify the element of your Sun and Ascendant. They are the most important parts of your natal chart. So add 1 point for each. In our sample chart, the Sun is in Scorpio, and the Ascendant is in Capricorn. That means an additional 1 point for Water (Scorpio’s element) as well as for Earth (Capricorn’s element).

The final count is:

Earth – 5 points

Water – 4 points

Air – 3 points

Fire – 1 point

Your dominant element is Earth. Your secondary element is Water. Air and Fire are considered weak in you.

Step 6: Tally your modalities.

Use these correspondences:

CARDINAL – Aries, Capricorn, Libra, Cancer

FIXED – Leo, Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio

MUTABLE – Sagittarius, Virgo, Gemini, Pisces

Capricorn having 3 players in it means 3 points for Cardinal.

Scorpio having 3 players in it means 3 points for Fixed.

Aquarius having 2 players in it means 2 points for Fixed.

Virgo having 1 player in it means 1 point for Mutable.

Libra having 1 player in it means 1 point for Cardinal.

Sagittarius having 1 player in it means 1 point for Mutable.

So far, Fixed leads with 5 points. Cardinal follows with 4 points. Mutable gets 2.

Now, identify the modality of your Sun and Ascendant. They are the most important parts of your natal chart. So add 1 point for each. In our sample chart, the Sun is in Scorpio, and the Ascendant is in Capricorn. That means an additional 1 point for Fixed (Scorpio’s modality) as well as for Cardinal (Capricorn’s modality).

The final count is:

Fixed – 6 points

Cardinal – 5 points

Mutable – 2 points

Your dominant modality is Fixed. Your secondary modality is Cardinal. Mutable is considered weak in you.

Step 7: Interpret your dominant element and modality.

In a nutshell:

Fire means a passionate personality and an enthusiastic energy.

Earth means a practical personality and a grounded energy.

Air means a logical personality and an intellectual energy.

Water means an emotional personality and a spiritual energy.

Cardinal means an initiating attitude and an enterprising character.

Fixed means a determined attitude and a consistent character.

Mutable means a harmonious attitude and an adaptable character.

Since your dominant element is Earth, and your dominant modality is Fixed, it means that a sense of practicality and realism influences the choices you make in life. It also means that your determination will be your key to success, and that other people may think very highly of you because of your trustworthiness.
