I’m somewhere between 4 & 5, closer to 5, with a dash of ADHD wtf-ness. Almost all of my brain noise is audio, and I have to really focus to see a vague shape of anything.
i have neither a good imagination nor aphantasia, but a secret third thing
I feel this
I’m diagnosed as autistic, but I don’t really struggle a lot with social cues. I pick most of them up naturally it just takes a while. I have trouble figuring out when I’m supposed to speak so I usually just don’t. And I can’t usually tell when to stop a conversation. But I’m pretty good at all the other social stuff. Can I still be autistic? Is there a chance I was misdiagnosed?
"I pick up on social cues naturally but it just takes a while."
That's not picking up in social cues naturally. That's reading them and interpreting them after you learnt them via study and masking. Allistics don't need a while. It's instantaneous.
Trouble figuring out your turn to speak and stopping a conversation? Autism.
And pretty good at social stuff or you're no longer a child and have learnt the rules and regulations around social interaction?
This is classic imposter syndrome and I can tell you that if you are diagnosed as autistic, you're autistic. We're all different, yes, so my struggles will be different to yours. But reading social cues like an old 1950s radio manual is not the same as allistic understanding of social cues.

Happy stims

An ace-ceptional dragon! On a side note, HOLY COW THERE ARE SO MANY OF YOU HERE WITH ME?? I should’ve given Tumblr a try way sooner.
I just read that asking someone how they are is rhetorical; my mind is blown. Is it really rhetorical? I’m so confused.
Who the fuck needs Tumblr anymore I'm just going to be looking at lamp posts from now on
The sardonic, reductionist headline here could be "Scientists finally figured out why you get more colds in winter: bEcAuSe iT's CoLd!"—but the actual science involved here is both interesting, and potentially very relevant to everyday life and especially the immunocompromised:
It turns out the cold air itself damages the immune response occurring in the nose. [...] In fact, reducing the temperature inside the nose by as little as 9 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celsius) kills nearly 50% of the billions of virus and bacteria-fighting cells in the nostrils, according to the study published Tuesday in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. “Cold air is associated with increased viral infection because you’ve essentially lost half of your immunity just by that small drop in temperature,” said rhinologist Dr. Benjamin Bleier, director of otolaryngology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and an associate professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Want to avoid catching or spreading respiratory viruses like CoVid-19, RSV, influenza, or a common cold? Mask up, please, but also bundle up! Wrap up in a scarf, wear a balaclava, and just generally keep your face warm. There's no single magic solution, but that's not a reason to do nothing. Rather, it's a reason to take several simple precautions that help avoid the spread of disease and protect those around you. (I can't tell you how much "this isn't 100% effective so I shouldn't do it at all" frustrates me.)
Oh, and #knitblr? This is your time to shine.

We’re at the ER for my wife (again for possible seizures) and a new nurse came in. He was wearing a scent or used a strong soap or detergent. My wife asked him to step away as she started coughing and turning red. I tried to explain that any strong scents can trigger anaphylaxis, but he didn’t understand. I just asked for a new nurse for her.
Luckily we aren’t here for a MCAS flare, but it almost turned into one of those visits.
Republicans will fix nothing.
It’s finished! Now to frame it.

After shoving Hansel in the oven, the witch turns to Gretel - who is currently fending the witch off with a gingerbread chair - and says:
“I can’t believe you thought a trail of breadcrumbs would save you. I mean, honestly, this is a forest! It’s full of animals. Honestly, the very idea that a dumb shit like you thought you could get the better of me is absurd.”
Gretel hits her in the face with said chair. To be fair to the witch, she takes the chairshot like a champ.
“Ow!”
“Did you know,” says Gretel, “that crows are capable of facial recognition?”
“Eh?” Says the witch, clambering to her feet and pulling a candy cane sledgehammer off the wall. “What’s that got to do with anything?”
“Not only that,” Gretel continues, “but they can remember both friends and enemies. And they’ll often follow people they remember as friends.”
The two fence with their sugared weapons for a moment, before the witch knocks the chair out of Gretel’s hands.
“Enough with the bird facts! Honestly, this whole attempted escape has been utter clownshoes. Get in the fucking oven!”
She seizes Gretel by the collar. Gretel immediately sandbags, letting her whole body go limp. This eminently practical defense forces the witch to try and deadlift her. Which is hard, as the witch often skips leg day.
“For example,” Gretel says, as the witch struggles and grunts, “if you feed crows a lot of breadcrumbs, they’ll probably start to see you as a friend and follow you in the hope of more food.”
The witch stops. Outside, she hears the thunder of wings.
“They’ll even bring you shiny things they find as presents!” Says Gretel, as a corner of the gingerbread ceiling is suddenly cut away by a large crow with a knife in its mouth.
“Oh shitballs.” Says the witch, as the crows descend. “I hope you know this is a great unkindness.”
“Technically,” Says Gretel, “It’s a murder.”
Or I didn’t read the instructions fully

I just want disabled people to know that they are allowed to take up space.
You are allowed to exist, to have needs, to have desires and to speak your truth, and you don’t owe anybody anything for the right to do that.

WIP #3
Didn’t make as much progress as in days before, but with for good reasons! I got blood drawn for my endocrinology appointment, I made a few calls that needed to be made, got coffee with the wife and got her “minter”, and other things I can’t remember that needed done.
And! The husband found a holographic snowflake light to put in the front yard so our house isn’t so dismal against the rest of the neighborhood and their lights.
Today didn’t suck.

I’ve been itching to get back to cross stitching for a while now. I have one all planned out for a friend, but I can’t find my white aida cloth to start. At least, I think it’s big enough for what I need. Not working makes things challenging when needing to purchase supplies. The black aida I purchased earlier this year was just a bit to narrow for what I need, so I decided to repurpose it. To snowflakes, of course! Did a little Google search, found this free pattern and here I am. Also, black aida is a bitch to work on. it feels like a miniature litebrite. I’m a quarter done with it after starting on Friday, which is weird to think. It’s been good for keeping my hands and mind busy, especially with the wife having seizures off and on all day. She was supposed to have an ambulatory EEG this weekend, but our outlets in our 1950s house are too small to accommodate what the tech needed to plug the camera into. Now we get to schedule a 72 hour EEG at the hospital in the middle of respiratory disease hell season. Weeee!
In better news, our plumbing is getting replaced tomorrow. Or rather, the plumbing replacement process starts tomorrow. Jackhammering at 8 am! Who doesn’t love getting woken up to jackhammering right next to the bedroom? Although I just thought of something. Wife’s seizures have been sound triggered as well; this could get really messy.
WIP #2
No plumbing started yet because two of the guys on the crew got Covid. Maybe next week? I’m so ready to have a shower that works again.
