When my economics teacher says that the markets will reach equilibrium on their own if government stops interfering but history and the news tells us capitalism leads to inequality, profit over ethics, and problematic distribution.

In the book industry, Amazon is Goliath, the giant who overshadows everyone else. But there’s a new David on the scene, Bookshop.org.
It doesn’t expect to topple the giant, but it has launched a weapon that could make Amazon’s shadow a little smaller, and help local bookstores fight back.
Bookshop.org, a website that went live at the end of January and is still in beta mode, is designed to be an alternative to Amazon, and to generate income for independent bookstores. And, perhaps more importantly, it seeks to give book reviewers, bloggers and publications who rely on affiliate income from “Buy now” links to Amazon a different option.
Profit from books sold through Bookshop will be split three ways, with 10% of the sale price going into a pool that will be divided among participating bookstores, 10% going to the publication that triggered the sale by linking to Bookshop.org, and 10% going to Bookshop.org to support its operations.
What a disgusting human being
SEIZE IT. PERIOD.
This is love and life
where has this been all my life??
Hi Dr Rita How do you catch the virus??? If someone has it can they pass it on by touch??
From what we know so far, the coronavirus seems to spread like other respiratory illnesses. That’s through:
1. Someone coughing and you breathing in the particles into your lungs, or
2. Those particles being on a surface (for example someone coughing into their hand and then touching a door handle), and then you touching those particles and transferring them to your mouth.
An analysis in the NEJM found that the virus can remain in the air for up to 3 hours, on copper for up to 4 hours, on cardboard up to 24 hours, and on plastic and stainless steel up to 72 hours.
That’s why the following strategies are so important:
Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds—the WHO recommends 6-9 times a day—and especially after going out, and before eating.
Try to limit touching your mouth or face.
If you cough, cough into your elbow (instead of your hand) or a tissue. Chuck tissues away.
Clean surfaces regularly.
If you have symptoms, follow self-isolation advice.
I’d also generally avoid touching and kissing others, especially on the face, and especially if you don’t live together. If you do live together, then—unless you’re all self-isolating in your rooms—it’s likely most household contacts will get infected.
If you think a surface may be infected, clean it with simple disinfectant to kill the virus and protect yourself and others. Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.
I would recommend regularly cleaning down surfaces that you touch—such as door handles. It’s generally advisable to wash fruit & veg before eating!

My love for this commercial knows no bounds
File this under: Wicked pissah. Boston-area natives John Krasinski (The Office), Chris Evans (Marvel’s Avengers films) and Rachel Dratch (Saturday Night Live) give their Beantown accents free reign in a new Hyundai commercial that will air during Sunday’s Super Bowl LIV.
When Nintendo abandons their interest in serving the customer and the joy of playing games. These things were their basis for creation and now they are focused on money like so many companies
I know people would like die to defend Nintendo but there still wasn’t a technical reason to cut down the Pokedex and there ain’t a technical reason why you’ll only get one Animal Crossing island per Switch console. You heard about that shit right?? You can’t have multiple saves even if you buy it multiple times on cartridge or log into different Nintendo accounts. One switch, one file.
I want to try so many little hobbies. Candle making, soap making, basket weaving, wood carving, book binding, baking, weaving, I want to try them all.
So cute

For real though if I want high waisted pants to be near my belly button I have to get them in tall and high waist or in ultra high waist/very high waist. And I'm only 5'8. Anyone taller than that must be for real suffering. And must have just about died when low waisted was a trend.
high-waisted pants and skirts are just things that sit at most people’s natural waists and we’ve been somehow conned into believing that’s “high” send tweet
So pretty. Saving for when I'm working full-time again and can buy one

Peak apolitical culture. "I don't care about politics" or "I don't follow politics" is stupid and problematic. Politics effect everyone and your "throwaway vote" is messing with other people's lives and futures. If you are too uninformed to vote inform yourself. Talk to people and do research. Whatever time you save by not learning will bite you in the ass when the politician that gets voted isn't someone who cares about your issues.
Democrats: alright we finally did it, Trumps been impeached. Time for a trial in the-
Republicans: lol yeah about that trial. It’s not gonna be fair or anything, we’ve already made up our minds and there’s gonna be like, 0 witnesses
Democrats: oh? Ok then. If that’s the case then I guess we’ll just hold on to these *pockets articles of impeachment*
Republicans:
People don’t hate math. They hate being confused, intimidated, and embarrassed by math. Their problem is with how it’s taught.

Gotta get that Jesus Tea when you're sick
So it’s Flu Season again, and this recipe for Tea To Fix What Ails You was given to me by a Christian friend, and I’ve taken to calling it JESUS TEA due to it’s miraculous properties. Even though it, technically, contains no tea. This tea is as caffinie-free as anything processed in a US plant can get, but be sure to check the provenance and all ingredients in case of allergies.
You will Need:
A Bigass Pot, becuase this is something you make in large quantities
working stovetop
those lil cloth sachets you use for wassail/empty teabags/those lil reuseable loose-leaf tea steepers.
Recipe:
about a quart of water
1 cup apple cider
about half a lemon’s worth of juice
a shitwhack of honey- try to get as local as possible and generally the less-processed the better if you want to build a resistance to local allergens. If you have allergy concerns or don’t like the taste of honey, go ahead and use more processed stuff/another sweetener instead.
three tablespoons/three bags chamomile tea
three tablespoons/three bags rooibos tea
teaspoon crushed cloves
1 cinnamon stick (more if you like it spicier)
¼ tsp nutmeg
1/8 tsp cayenne or white pepper
Bring water to a simmer in the pot. Add the chamomile, rooibos and spices to steep about 4-5 minutes or longer if you like tea-flavored tar which given you have the flu you probably do. Add Cider, Lemon Juice and Honey until dissolved. Drink all of this in the course of an hour to stay hydrated, make more pots as needed or until you pass out.
FOR MAXIMUM EFFECTIVENESS: gargle warm salt water first for as long as you can, it’ll break up the mucus in your throat and soothe the soreness.

Bring back treating interns like a valuable asset. If you're going to spend the time vetting them might as well actually invest in them and get a skilled/trained employee out of the deal. Both sides literally profit when interns aren't treated like shit
Abolish unpaid internships, bring back apprenticeships.
