I respect this so much. Nasa astronauts and the astronauts of other nations work together and and rise above the political issues that their countries may have with one another for the sake of science and the benefit of the world as a whole.
Hey! I was wondering how everyone on the ISS adjusts to each other’s culture and language. It seems like it might be hard with language barriers and other factors, to live in a confined space with people from another country. Do others try to teach you their language? Does everyone mostly speak English, or do some people speak Russian?

Thank you for the blessing that is this video

anyways the version of much ado about nothing starring catherine tate and david tennant as beatrice and benedick is a Classic. david tennant’s benedick is FULL chaotic dumbass, and catherine tate’s beatrice is past being full of rage and is completely done with everyone from the very beginning. plus, they just work off each other so well.
not to mention the costumes and props. benedick in drag? BENEDICK IN JORTS AND A SUPERMAN SHIRT? beatrice wearing a suit? beatrice swaggering around with a beer in her hand, while benedick sips on pink, fruity cocktails? benedick writing his love song to beatrice on one of those stupid little electric keyboards? unparalleled artistry.
This is a serious pet peeve of mine with mysteries and sci-fi thrillers. Like yeah I didn't see that coming because you 100% pulled that ending out of your ass and it doesn't at all fit with the prior style of writing. Or the character arcs that existed before you shot it all to hell for the sake of shock value.
What irks me most about the whole “we can’t do what the audience expects!” attitude that has developed for big franchise stories is that, honestly, 95% of the audience isn’t thinking about it that hard. It says that creators are looking at the 5% of their audience who care the most, who are really invested in their work, often the people who care about stories and narratives in general…and perceiving that not as care, as a positive offering, but as the opening of intellectual combat.
What a deeply tiring way to interact with the rest of the world.
I really need good luck right now

Keeping the Tigers entertained
So animal misinformation is very common within society so I thought about making a list of a couple of things that you probably should know about animals:
Do not flip rabbits upside down (it can literally kill them)
While we’re talking about rabbits, do not bathe them in water
Rabbits can’t eat lots of carrots, they have too much sugar
75% of their diet should be hay
that cage you bought for your hamster is most likely too small
Any tank or bowl under 5 gallons is way too small for anything unless you are keeping snails
Your aquatic animal needs a filter
Yes, your beta fish needs a heater (as do all tropical aquatic animals)
No, fish are not decorations
Goldfish and koi are pond animals, goldfish can live in some tanks but they need to be big
You can not just buy 2 fish that school (like guppies, neon tetras, etc)
Trust nothing that petsmart or petco tells you about fish they actually know nothing
When you purchase a reptile you need to be willing to take care of it for it’s entire lifespan (some of the common reptiles sold at the store can live up to 50 years)
Your reptile needs a heater
Live feeding rodents actually isn’t that good and can harm your snake (only do this if the snake refuses frozen)
DO NOT RELEASE REPTILES INTO THE WILD! ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN A WARM STATE LIKE FLORIDA!
your reptile needs a water dish
Your turtle can’t live in a fish tank that just has a floating log for them to rest above water on
Most birds are social and should have companions
If they do not have a companion you need to make sure you spend enough time with them daily to make up for that
They can’t live off just seeds
You can’t cohabitate large and small birds
You should not put bedboxes or encourage nesting for tropical birds unless you plan on becoming a professional breeder and taking care of the babies yourself when the parents are incompetent
On the opposing side, domestic birds like pigeons and chickens need a nesting box because they will lay eggs reguarly (although these eggs will be unfertilized)
The chicken eggs you buy at the store are not unhatched baby chickens
Chickens legit don’t care if you take their eggs, they will eat the unfertilized eggs if left in the coop for too long, the eggs have a lot of nutrients that can help them, but do long as the chickens are getting a good diet they won’t need to eat the eggs
Honeybees make way too much honey and taking it from them prevents them from swarming (something that most of the time ends in the death of the entire colony)
You know how your neighbor/farm down the road/etc has horses? Yeah it’s fun to pet them and all but do not feed them random stuff you bring, you don’t know if they have special diet regulations or what is/is not poisonous and sending a horse to the vet is very expensive if you want to feed them something ask the farmer beforehand
I shouldn’t have to say this but do not enter any cow/horse/large animal pasture without the owners permission
Cows aren’t as sweet as the media makes them out to be, never let your guard down around a cow
Pigs are not herbivores, they are omnivores, they eat meat and basically whatever else they can
The same applies to chickens
Do not release domestic or domestic raised animals into the wild. Ever
You shouldn’t declaw your cat (get those rubber claw covers instead!)
Also don’t let your cat be an “outdoor” cat
That doesn’t mean don’t let your cat go outside, but when they are outside it should be under supervision and on a leash
If you don’t want to leash train them, get a catio!
Your omnivorous or carnivor animals CANT BE VEGAN
Feel free to add more to this list!

This is amazing and goes for any type of book or event you want to see more of in a library. If you don't check out, sit in on or otherwise show that you're interacting with library materials they don't know that you like them
hey folx, real quick regarding Pride season:
if y'all see that your local libraries and museums are doing pride displays and events, PLEASE INTERACT WITH THE MATERIALS AND/OR ATTEND THEM! even if its just a pretty arrangement of lgbt books, borrow the materials amd make comments about how much you like them.
libraries in particular take a lot of heat for showcasing lgbt stuff, but having supporting statistics in hand to defend ourselves helps to keep the directors from backing down when confronted by conservative blowhards. but we only get those statistics if you’re actually there supporting us. my system dropped our Storytime with a Drag Queen events because of this.
please boost this, and as always, support your local queer librarians!
Cool tools on photoshop
I’ve been getting quite a few asks about the process for the patterns in my stylized artworks, so I decided to put together a couple of tips regarding them.
Firstly, what you need are
Most of the patterns I use are custom brushes I made, such as those:
For the longest time I was convinced making brushes must be super extra complicated. I was super extra wrong. All you need to start is a transparent canvas (2500px x 2500px max):
This will be your brush tip. When you’re satisfied how it looks, click Ctrl+A to select the whole canvas and go to ‘define brush preset’ under the edit menu
You will be asked to name your new glorious creation. Choose something that describes it well, so you can easily find it between all the ‘asfsfgdgd’ brushes you’ve created to be only used once
This is it. Look at it, you have just created a photoshop brush. First time i did I felt like I was cheated my whole life. IT’S SO EASY WHY HASN’T ANYONE TOLD ME
Time to edit the Good Boi to be more random, so it can be used as a Cool Fancy Pattern. Go into brush settings and change whatever you’d like. Here’s a list of what I do for patterns:
- under Shape Dynamics, I increase Size Jitter and Angle jitter by 5%-15%
- under Brush Tip Shape, I increase spacing by a shitload. Sometimes it’s like 150%, the point is to get the initial brush tip we painted to be visible.
- If I want it to look random and noisy, I enable the Dual Brush option, which acts like another brush was put on top of the one we’ve created. You can adjust all of the Dual Brush options (Size, Spacing, Scatter, Count) as you wish to get a very nice random brush to smear on your backgrounds
The result is as above. You can follow the same steps to create whatever brush you need: evenly spaced dots that look like you painted them by hand, geometric pattern to fill the background, a line of perfectly drawn XDs and so on.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE
But what if you want to get lots of circles made of tiny dots? Or you need rows of triangles for your cool background? Photoshop can do all of that for you, thanks to the magic of paths.
Typically, paths window can be found right next to Layers:
Draw whatever path you want, the Shape Tool has quite a bit of options. Remember, paths are completely different from brush strokes and they won’t show up in the navigator. To move a path around, click A to enable path selection tool. You can use Ctrl+T to transform it, and if you move a path while pressing Alt it will be duplicated.
Now, pick a brush you wish really was in place of that path you’ve drawn and go to layers, then choose the layer you want it to be drawn on. Then, click this tiny circle under the Paths window:
Then witness the magic of photoshop doing the drawing for you while you wonder how tf have you managed to forget about this option for the past 2 years
You can combine special brushes and paths for all sorts of cool effects. I mostly use them in backgrounds for my cards, but you can do whatever you want with them.
I hope that answers the questions for all of the people who were sending me inquires about the patterns. If you have any questions regarding this or any other Photoshop matter feel free to message me, I’m always up for complaining about how great and terrible Photoshop is C’:
I have made this mistake before. Thinking that sexual predators would be obvious in how terrible they are. And that because someone was flawed and had been hurt in that way they would not do the same to someone else. Especially someone who saw them as a friend and was trying to help them with their goals in life. And I was so deeply and painfully wrong. I saw them as a victim of their circumstances and wound up being really badly hurt emotionally and otherwise in a way that fucked me up for years. Please be careful assuming that someone is safe because they have suffered. Just because someone has endured pain does not mean they are as unwilling to cause the same pain. Even to people they claim to care about.
Twitter made the Jewish lady that posted this delete it for “threatening violence.”

The UN is constantly moving forward in its understanding of human nature and protection of humans ability to make choices that deeply impact them. I feel like america is the opposite, constantly treating choice as a selfish thing that should be avoided unless the choices made or forced onto people match the grand opinion of the masses.
just a reminder that the UN classifies forced pregnancy/denial of an abortion as actual torture. that’s how essential reproductive rights are.

Ron is not my favorite character but he is a ride or die hoe and a bomb ass friend 98% of the time.
one of the v. important things the movies missed about ron is just like, how down to fight he was at all times. like not even duel just he was always ready to physically beat the shit out of people who insulted his family or friends and WOULD if no one stopped him.
there are so many points in the books where its just casually dropped in ‘and so Harry and/or Hermione had to physically restrain Ron’ usually from Malfoy but if Harry or Hermione weren’t paying attention it became ‘and so Ron punched Malfoy in the face’.
Like, Ron cursing Malfoy for calling Hermione Mudblood wasnt just a one off thing like every time he did that in the future when Ron was there it was like ‘ron had to be stopped from ending Malfoy’s life’ just thrown in there. Same for any other severe insults.
My absolute favorite instance of this is in the first book when they’re just watching a Quidditch game and Malfoy just starts bothering Ron and Hermione during it and is finally like ‘man its pretty funny how the Gryffindor quidditch team is recruited based on pity like y’know Potter has no parents, Weasley’s brothers have no money they should include Longbottom for having no brains” and Ron just flings himself at Malfoy and starts punching him and rolling around under the bleachers and Neville is like “uh shit i guess i better fight CRABBE AND GOYLE BOTH AT ONCE so they don’t go after him” (very underrated moment of courage from Neville he knew he had no chance but he just went for it honestly almost more impressive than confronting Voldemort in book 7)
and they’re just fighting for like twenty minutes and Hermione doesn’t even notice because she was so focused on tuning Malfoy out and watching the game and when its over she looks around like “where’d ron go” and then later its mentioned “Harry sees Ron and his face is covered in blood and he’s like “GOOD JOB WINNING THE GAME HARRY I GAVE MALFOY A BLACK EYE SO WE BOTH DID GREAT THINGS TONIGHT oh btw i have detention for a week and neville’s unconcious but they say he’ll be fine”.
Ron is ride or die and will fight u for $0 y’all
I love this with my whole heart

Books that help understand unhealthy relationships and why people act as they do
Toxic Parents: Overcoming Their Hurtful Legacy and Reclaiming Your Life by Susan Forward
Why Does he DO That: Inside The Minds of Angry and Controlling Men by Lundy Bancroft
I've been wearing glasses just about my whole life. And glasses prices are BS. People are literally taking advantage of my need to see in order to create a customer base which can't refuse to buy an overpriced product because it's necessary for my survival. Companies which take advantage of medical needs in order to exponentially raise prices unnecessarily are trash. I consider them just as bad as the people who create predatory loan schemes. Taking advantage of the fundamental needs people have to survive in order to make massive profit is disgusting.
If you wear glasses, you might have noticed that they’ve been getting steadily more expensive in recent years, no matter which brand you buy and no matter where you shop.
That’s because a giant-but-obscure company called Luxottica bought out Sunglass Hut and Lenscrafters, then used their dominance over the retail side of glasses to force virtually every eyewear brand to sell to them (Luxxotica owns or licenses Armani, Brooks Brothers, Burberry, Chanel, Coach, DKNY, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Oakley, Oliver Peoples, Persol, Polo Ralph Lauren, Ray-Ban, Tiffany, Valentino, Vogue and Versace); and used that to buy out all the other eyewear retailers of any note (Luxottica owns Pearle Vision, Sears Optical, Sunglass Hut and Target Optical) and then also bought out insurers like Eyemed Vision Care and Essilor, the leading prescription lens/contact lens manufacturer.
Controlling the labs, insurers, frame makers, and all the major retail outlets has allowed Luxottica to squeeze suppliers – frames are cheaper than ever to make, thanks to monopsony buying power with Prada-grade designer frames costing $15 to manufacture – while raising prices as much as 1000% relative to pre-acquisition pricing.
It’s even worse for lenses: a pair of prescription lenses that cost $1.50 to make sell for $800 in the USA.
LA Times columnist David Lazarus wrote a column about skyrocketing eyewear prices and was approached by Charles Dahan, who once owned one of the largest frames companies in America, Custom Optical, which supplied 20% of the frames sold at Lenscrafters prior to the Luxottica acquisition. Dahan describes how Luxottica cornered the horizontal and vertical markets for eyewear and pushed out or bought out every other company (Oakley refused to sell or lower prices, so Luxottica boycotted it from its retailers, forcing the company into such a precarious position that it Luxottica was able to buy it for a fraction of its peak book-value just a few years later).
This is a good example of how decades of far-right ideologically driven antitrust malpractice has hurt everyone. After all, glasses aren’t just a fashion item: they’re a necessity for people with poor vision, a prerequisite for driving, walking, cycling, reading, getting an education or doing your job.
Luxottica grew through acquisition, by buying up its competition. This was banned under classic antitrust law, until the Reagan years. This pattern has been repeated in many other domains: beer, whiskey, retail pharmacies, and so on. In every one of those domains, we are getting screwed, as are small businesspeople and the families they serve.
