i had an ex who for the entirety of our relationship would rarely ever refer to me as any pet name including “boy.” “pretty boy,” “good boy,” “sweet boy,” even “my boyfriend,” said maybe 3-4 times over a 10 month period.

he said it was because i liked being called that so much, he didn’t want them to lose their magic, so he used them only for special occasions.

i found out about 6-7 months in that he had been degendering me the entire time. meaning that he had been viewing me as genderless for his own comfort, because despite what he told me, he still viewed himself as straight.

looking back it’s incredibly obvious. he only ever used they/them pronouns for me, and called me his partner.

i’m just ashamed i stayed with him after i found out.
