Another moonjou shipper!!! Do you have any headcanons for them :3 I hc they stay up stargazing and talking about the most random bs and Kinkajou loves when Moon treats her thought experiments with utmost gravity and breaks down every possible aspect of a hypothetical question ("would you love me if I was a scavenger?" "Of course, you'd have a cage to rival them all!") Even if she doesn't always understand. I also hc Moon writes surprisingly poetic stuff/puzzle poems/riddles for Kinkajou that tests her reading skills :D

So I checked the conversation with Lady Scarab, and SHE never mentions it either!

In fact, what SHE says is:

“Maybe they weren’t called SilkWings back then. ShimmerWings or Flibbergibbets or something in the old language, I don’t know. But Clearsight married one, and then another one when the first one died, and had an alarming number of dragonets with each one, and then their dragonets and their dragonets’ dragonets kept going, marrying Ye Olde SilkWings or what have you, until there were enough of them to be considered their own tribe. HiveWings.” (The Hive Queen, pages 182-183)

So, yes and no? I’ll have to look at The Poison Jungle, I didn’t realize they talked about it there, too.

But she also only remarked about two tribes, LeafWings and an unarmed tribe, leading many to believe that this was an earlier version of SilkWings that the Fandom had nicknamed “BeetleWings”. The funny thing? They don’t actually exist. In fact, the place I could have sworn I read “BeetleWings” doesn’t mention the word “beetle” even once

Specifically, I was thinking of Lady Scarab’s explanation of how HiveWings came to be, where it says:

I believe they stated that it was just Leafwings and Beetlewings when Clearsight arrived, although I can’t remember in which book.

queen coral! i had to pull up so many references for her colors lmfao. i think she turned out really pretty in the end

personally I love using the book covers as a reference, especially book 8 (which has Peril on the cover) and tracing them, first directly and then by eye. Break it down into shapes. See what moving around and messing with those shapes does. Have fun with it!

I also like to do this if/when I find an artist who draws something in a way I like— eventually you kinda just integrate that style into yours

anywayy, i am almost done introducing the first set of my wof ocs. i only have one more to go so for now, introducing quartz the night/ice hybrid !!

quartz is stormslayer’s sister. after their parents were forced apart, their father took quartz’s egg. he raised her in the mountains, hidden from other dragons since he had two tribes with it out for him. (nightwings and icewings) quartz has rather deep rooted trust issues as a result of hiding her whole life. one day she reunited with her whole family, and now she attends jade mountain academy with her brother, slowly learning that not all dragons want her dead.

Last three tribes done! Mudwings, Sandwings, and Hivewings!

I have decided that Mudwings will have splotches of green ranging from a subtle dry-grass color (rare) to a mossy green (common) to a deep forest green (uncommon), but also very rarely may be a desaturated blue (very rare).

Sandwings in this also have a rare, recessive trait that gives them venom in their fangs, though then again it is pretty rare. Standard color ranges but it also dips into the army-green area. (so the range for their darker areas is a desaturated brown to a dark yellow to an army-green)

Finally I have decided that all Hivewings have pink eyes. Why? Idk it looks cool and I’ve decided that they all have gorgeous pink eyes. Also their black areas aren’t usually a grey black but more like subtle shades of dark blue, green, purple, or very rarely red to REALLY harness those NightWing genes rather than being splotches of Just Black (since most nightwings have SOME color to them)

Plus a bonus traditional artwork of Peril because my stylus tip broke and I’m waiting on the replacements, so it’s gonna be a lot of transitional art for a bit:

here are Earth and Night, with Earth being a predecessor of the modern Mudwing! Slight diamond visible on the Nightwing’s forehead signifies Future Sight with the standard teardrop meaning Mindreading. Extra “star” shape only appears on thrice moonborn Nightwings!
