FIXED IT!
Took the time to add the line of scales I forgot in this post
Not sure how happy I am with it, and the design may be subject to change, but at least this is a good temporary solution :)

FINALLY REDID THIS PIECE THIS TOOK WAY TOO LONG (original under cut)
A piece I think I did in… 2023? Not sure, it was a WHILE ago, though, and I promised to redo it. Very happy with how it came out!!!

I’m honestly really happy with how both of my designs came out, and had a blast working on this :) Hope to post again soon!

Was redesigning SilkWings for fun and now I’m scared to color the sketch it looks too good—

Last three tribes done! Mudwings, Sandwings, and Hivewings!
I have decided that Mudwings will have splotches of green ranging from a subtle dry-grass color (rare) to a mossy green (common) to a deep forest green (uncommon), but also very rarely may be a desaturated blue (very rare).
Sandwings in this also have a rare, recessive trait that gives them venom in their fangs, though then again it is pretty rare. Standard color ranges but it also dips into the army-green area. (so the range for their darker areas is a desaturated brown to a dark yellow to an army-green)
Finally I have decided that all Hivewings have pink eyes. Why? Idk it looks cool and I’ve decided that they all have gorgeous pink eyes. Also their black areas aren’t usually a grey black but more like subtle shades of dark blue, green, purple, or very rarely red to REALLY harness those NightWing genes rather than being splotches of Just Black (since most nightwings have SOME color to them)
Plus a bonus traditional artwork of Peril because my stylus tip broke and I’m waiting on the replacements, so it’s gonna be a lot of transitional art for a bit:
here are Earth and Night, with Earth being a predecessor of the modern Mudwing! Slight diamond visible on the Nightwing’s forehead signifies Future Sight with the standard teardrop meaning Mindreading. Extra “star” shape only appears on thrice moonborn Nightwings!

had to wait until i finished the fire side of the tree before I started on HiveWings (so I could use my Nightwing Design as an influence). In my AU/redesign, seawings can actually spit very hot water, but they have the either be INCREDIBLY WELL HYDRATED or at least mostly submerged in water, and the amount they spit is pretty limited. IceWings can switch between their frost and a cool mist, but the mist requires training and a LOT of control
Finally got Beetle and Silk out of the way! Sorry for the delay, i had to be temporarily hospitalized for my arm, yk how it is.

The colorful spots on the JungleWing are a very early version of the color-changing scales that we know rainwings to have today
a predecessor to sea and icewings! No ice breath, but can eject hot water or even breath steam.

got rain and leaf out of the way! Finally we’re at some canon tribes, lmao.
Rainwings have the same abilities as normal, only real change is they are really bad at flying for long distances, preferring that weaving glide using their tail over actually flapping. I’ve also decided that both RainWings and SilkWings (which I haven’t finished designing quite yet, gotta do Beetle first) will both have that :3 python face, hence why both tribes tend to be underestimated— they look very innocent to most dragons.
Here’s my design for LeafWings! Decided to make this guy mostly brown because I don’t see enough appreciation for brown LeafWings, plus some gold flecks. In this design, they no longer have the fin at the end of their tail because it is prehensile, but also a little shorter than the RainWing’s and VenomWings they descend from. Also, the little green patch on their muzzle comes from the loss of Venom glands, though it does resurface very rarely. (I am also very proud of the pose I drew them in >:))
(Good news! My style seems to be evening out)
Moved on to Venom! (Pardon the sudden style change, I swear my style changes every time I pick up the stylus…)
Starting with “Nonfire”! (I am open to better name suggestions…)
Got bored and made an evolution tree for Wings of Fire— currently working on (re-)designing each tribe (except the “Common Ancestor” one since it’s more of a vague collective of various dragons)

Redesigned Nightwings! Attached are various designs for different star patterns, and visual indicators for powers and royal lineage. I’ll probably do some other tribes soon, too.
