Yusei is autistic

-He definitely has hyperempathy, like look at 90% of the shit he does and why.

-Wears gloves nearly 24/7 because he has touch based sensory issues

-Milk is his drink of choice because it’s one of the few drinks he likes the texture of.

-Is pretty much a master engineer without even a traditional formal education, gadgets and building things is his special interest, he spent years being a self study. From small things like fixing old Battle City era dueldisks to making a properly functioning Dwheel from literal scraps.

-(ties to the above) He seems like a guy that doesn’t talk much, and that true, but if you speak mechanics than he’ll talk to you non stop for literal hours. (Which is exactly what happened with Bruno.)

-Is shown to prefer riding duels over traditional standing duels, he feels like he can just understand the other duelist better in a riding duel than standing and facing them directly. You don’t have to make near constant eye contact in a riding duel.

-Bonus he really likes the feeling of wind blowing against him. Riding duels have a bunch of that.

-Is called flat faced or more stoic compared to other protagonists and character in 5Ds. He always had difficulty reading people’s facial expressions and thus has hard times really expressing himself. (He was also probably really non-verbal as a kid, Jack, Crow and Martha being the only people he talked with regularly)

-Is always tinkering with his Dwheel because it’s one of the things that really helps him think.

-He’s literally worn pretty much the same outfit everyday for his entire life (with minor changes like a vest durning his Team Satisfaction days), even after living in Neo Domino and getting new riding gear it’s pretty much the same as his regular clothes.

-Has shut downs and completely caves in on himself when extremely upset (post Kiryu duel, and his nightmares relating to Zero Reverse) and avoids speaking again until he collects himself. (Or is punched in the gut by Jack)

~Probably fiddles with any tool he has on hand or shuffles his deck as a stim. (Why he was so good a flipping around the gun shaped duel disk)

~Though he wouldn’t show it with his face, when nervous Yusei rubs or picks at his arm, even long before and long after he had his signer mark.

-Gets so wrapped up in his work, (mechanics or dueling) that he will forget to eat, wasn’t seen as a concern while living in an abandoned subway station where decent food was probably more scarce, but now the likes of Crow, Jack or Akiza sometimes have to drag him away from whatever he’s doing to eat something.
