You can't really say for all of American students how much homework they get, I'd also rephrase that bc it sounds like you're saying they're at fault for doing what kids do which is explore their world and learn through social interactions. Today it includes social media and Netflix and it may not be the best use of their time but most teens can't function the same way as adults.

Right, that’s why I tried to qualify it by saying “at most schools.” My school is known for giving a lot of homework, and that’s largely what I’m basing my observations off of since I don’t spend that much time with people at other schools. (Other American high school students are welcome to chime in here! I don’t claim to speak for everyone.)

You may be right that it sounds like I’m blaming them. If you have suggestions for rephrasing feel free to send me them.

Usually by inquiring why, as this does, based on the definition of feminism, seem a little bit strange.

You mean by saying that sex should be consensual? Because that’s basically all that feminists are saying.

I've never seen anyone try to control women like a group of feminists

“it’s just my opinion”

Newsflash: Opinions can be bigoted. Often times opinions are bigoted. Bigotry operates off of opinions. It being your opinion doesn’t absolve you of bigotry, it just proves it more when you say such.

*transgender but otherwise this is a nice list. Off the top of my head, I can also add Fires of the Faithful/ Turning the Storm to the fantasy section -- it’s mostly a fantasy novel, but it has two very prominent lesbian characters.

I don’t know, I did find a Padma/Sally-Anne fic on A03 (http://archiveofourown.org/works/142827 ; I haven’t read it, so I can’t say if it’s any good.) But she is a rare character to spot.

i challenge you to find a possible harry potter ship that hasn’t had a fic written about it, realistic or ridiculous

it’s impossible

as a way of fighting against how bullshit Autism Speaks and its shitty “Light It Up Blue” campaign (for more information of why you shouldn’t support Autism Speaks, see here for a masterpost of resources and reasons why it’s a bad company) and that one anonymous douchebag we got a few days ago about how Luna can’t be autistic, today we’re going to only be posting shitposts about Luna Lovegood, a character who is definitely autistic and nothing you can say will ever change my mind :D

Alien Invasion?

Here’s a different take on the alien invasion trope:

The world is going to shit: overpopulation, deforestation, pollution, global warming, everything. The only question is if we’ll kill ourselves off before we kill the planet out from under us. Then one day ships appear in the skies all over the world- not just America and countries with trendy landmarks, but EVERYWHERE. Efforts are made to stop the “attackers” but humanity is still rounded up and carted off to some strange alien facility.

Food (of a sort) and shelter are provided, but no answers are forthcoming because humanity’s captors don’t bother talking to us. Maybe select individuals are taken off for testing, but they all come back in more or less the same condition they were found, except maybe with immuno-boosters or a few troubling terminal diseases cleared up. There’s massive speculation about what’s going on and probably religions are formed based on various beliefs about what the aliens are doing with us, but no one knows for sure.

This goes on for years (or longer) and then one day everyone is rounded up again and taken back to Earth. Everything is exactly how we left it (except maybe dustier and overgrown) except now there’s no pollution, the ice caps have been repaired, global temps stabilized, ozone holes patched, everything. There are more forests, more crops, and maybe a few critical species (like bees) have been given a population boost. There probably isn’t a lot of thought to where people get dumped so a lot of folks end up in the wrong countries and whatnot, but eventually we sort ourselves back out and either make our way back home or settle down where we are. In a world that’s a little better than the one we left.

And that’s how humanity finds out they’re just an alien terrarium and the owners have stopped by to clean the tank.
