Dragon Age: Inquisition | ⶠdev. Bioware
Like...everyone unquestioningly parrotting the 'god of lies' thing like that isn't strongly implied to be Evanuris propaganda?
Reason 1: he's not a god. None of them are. They just declared themselves that.
Reason 2: there's a codex entry in the Vir Dirthara section of Trespasser which talks about Solas going among the people in disguise and persuading them to his point of view and how this is lies and corruption...except he's currently running a slave rebellion.
Depending on the story indeed...such as the stories of slave owning megalomaniacal mages who wanted those who might potentially sympathise with Solas to distrust him?
And you all fell for it.
Goddess of Self-Righteousness and God of Sunken Cost Fallacy.
Friendly reminder that:
Qunari are empowering Saarebas with lyrium so that they can become stronger, open temporary Rifts, slow time down, and use mysterious spells, all through unknown means.
Tevinter is terribly weakened, corrupted, and will not last in the war against the Qunari.
FenâHarel, now incredibly powerful, is planning to eliminate the corrupted parts of the Qun (good thing), but also to tear down the Veil (not that good, depending on the consequences). He will probably help the Tevinter slaves in rebelling against their masters too.
Titans are awakening. They are enormous beings living deep underground, whose blood has been consumed for millennia by mages and Templars alike, shaping the world as it is today. They also seem able to influence events above ground and they are very angry with the world or at least with the elves. They will probably re-establish their contact/link with the dwarves.
Something is happening in Weisshaupt, the Wardens have gone silent, and a new Blight is most likely coming.
The Evanuris are still locked away, but itâs obvious they will get free soon. They are a bunch of homicidal assholes who will not think twice about conquering Thedas again. They might be also tainted by the Blight, if the theories âEvanuris locked away with the Blight in the Black Cityâ are true.
If Kieran was born, Flemeth/Mythal took the Old Godâs soul from him, planning to do something with it. We still donât know what it is, but itâs unlikely she will stay âdeadâ. She still has to have her revenge, her âreckoning which will shake the very heavensâ.
Either Morrigan or the Inquisitor drank from the Well of Sorrows and the consequences of that act are still unclear, but whatever they are, they are going to suck or at least be mildly disturbing.
Mysterious Dalish elves live in the Tirashan. They are violent, cruel, and worship the Forgotten Ones.
Strange people from the Volca Sea are returning after a long absence, claiming a terrible calamity struck their lands.
We still donât know what lies beyond the Amaranthine Ocean, but whatever it is, it makes people go insane and suicidal.
Basically Thedas right now:
People seemed to enjoy the psychic bitchfight post so I figured Iâd do one for Ghilanânainâs lines in the âSiege of Weisshauptâ, too. Once again, I'm no expert, all glory goes to to [ FenXshiral ], and remember this is a vibe-based language so results vary with context, inflection, speaker and so on.
In the lead-up to the boss battle, First Warden Jowin will show up to take Davrinâs place as final sacrifice, only to be snatched up by Ghilanânain before he can deliver the blow. After remarking on the quality of his blood, Ghil rips out his heart, turns it into an archdemon strength buff, then drops the used-up Warden like hot garbage. A moment later Wyrm!Razikale emerges from the moat to start the fight.
Ghilanânain has two lines in this cutscene:
âLasa hedallin ghellaraâ
(Spoken either to or about the First Warden as she manipulates his blood/heart).
Lasa = grant/allow/give
hedallin = blood of a noble kill/sacrifice; blood of [your] defeat
1. hel/hell (adj. noble, moral, just) + dala (v. kill, destroy) + lin (n. blood, person m.)
or 2. [hela (v. contest, oppose, fight) + dala (v. kill, destroy)] + lin (n. blood, person m.)
The use of ânoble killâ/âblood of your defeatâ/âsacrificial bloodâ feels very deliberate here. Just before Ghilanânain grabs him, Jowin recites the Grey Warden motto, âIn war, victory! In peace, vigilance! In death, sacrifice!â . Sheâs throwing his words back at him, saying his âsacrificeâ wouldâve been a waste... she'll put it to better use. She even taunts Rook with this later in the fight: âWitness! A Wardenâs blood to birth your own destruction.â
ghellara = [my] beast more strong
ghe (n. monster, beast, creature) + elvara (v. to make difficult, hardy, sturdy, complex; from adj. elvar) + el (more, much, many. Used as a superlative) + ara (pron. sb. poss. my)
"fenathra mellasâ
(Spoken as Razikaleâs transformation completes)
The natural assumption is fen = wolf, which would result in: fen (wolf) + ath (embodiment of) + ra (prn. it) or ara (my, possessive), making it, âthe wolfâ in a kinda roundabout way. More like, âthat wolf guyâ or even, "my wolf guy" instead of a name or title. But I donât think Ghilanânain is invoking Solas or "the wolfâ here. He isnât an opponent at this point in the game, and neither her nor Elgarânan see him as a real threat anyway. Additionally, the way she says the word âfenathraâ is quite soft â almost wistful â especially by comparison to the deep, guttural, delivery of, âmellasâ. I think the root word sheâs using here is actually âfenorâ.
She calls Razikale her greatest creation. She mourns her death; pitifully telling Elgarânan that Rook took her away. Razikale is more than just important to her â she is the very embodiment of the word 'precious'.
fenathra = My Precious One
fenor (precious) + athe (used to change the meaning of an existing word into, âphysical manifestation ofâ, or âembodiment ofâ, eg. âthe deadâ from death) + ara (my)
Mellas = Allow now / Go!
melana (adv. now, in relation to âtimeâ or âwhenâ) + lasa (v. grant, allow, give, let - imperative verb form)
I've been working on her remaining lines for several days now and am currently tearing my hair out about it, but I will add them to this post as a reblog once I finish!
As a bonus I'll throw in Solas' dialogue to Davrin when he briefly joins your party at the end of the game.
Dialogue source: Solas Interaction with All Companions [ x ]
"Mala shivanas ar athim"
mala (your) shivana (to do oneâs duty, conjugated) ar (I) athim (humble, humility)
The Elvish scans in Solasâ Hallelujah cadence, so I preserved it for the translation.
They made Solas dumb in Veilguard, and that's worse than making him more villainous. I would have preferred him do the shittiest things imaginable over what they did to him. At least then, it would have been interesting.
solas, elven apostate, fen'harel, dreadwolf
Lavellanâs bff Dorian still thinks sheâs too good for Solas.
