Pick a fun line of dialogue and just cut it there. End the chapter or plonk in a scene break and move on.
Interrupt whatever's going on. You can customize the interruption to the genre of your fic, but it could be as simple as a phone call or a knock on the door or as complex as a parachuting velociraptor wielding a machete. Now your characters have to deal with *that* instead of wrapping up whatever they were doing before.
Find a parallel to another character who isn't there and use that as a transition to write about them in *their* scene. Two characters are mourning the end of their relationship? Smash cut to another character looking at a photo of a lost loved one. Character is in an angst spiral over a decision they need to make? Switch over to someone staring at a coffee shop menu in confusion.
Change the perspective. There's a fight going on and you're tired of writing it? Well, now you cut to a character on the other side of the wall who can hear some weird noises. They can choose to investigate or ignore, as you see fit. You don't want to write smut but your characters are making out pretty heavy now? Their roommate in the room next door decides now would be a great time to take the dog for a walk.
Get to a moment of tension and just... stop. End the chapter. Congratulations, you just wrote a cliffhanger. You can pick up the next chapter at any point you want (conveniently getting you past the tricky thing you weren't sure how to write). Bonus: you might have people yell at you in the comments š
Ending a scene early is a great way to get yourself out of a block. Conveniently, it's also an interesting way to write a story.
Feel free to add more ideas in the notes.
āI either do one shots or 800k fics no in betweenā ā700k is the average for meā ā60k is a short fic for me lolā what if I kill you and then myself
My Wolfstar is so extremely obsessed with each other nobody understands. Nobody āfell firstā or āfell harderā they fell just as fast and just as hard, simultaneously like two idiots tripping over the same rock. Itās not only love but mutual insanity. Theyāre so obsessed with one another itās embarrassing and maybe even a little concerning.
post the last line of whatever youāre working on right now. thanks @rae-lune for the tag! loved your last lines <3
This is from Love on the Fly ch 4!
Remus is just too worked up to think of anything to say.

hi so we can in fact enjoy pathetic loser characters without being ableist! i looove pathetic loser remus but itās disgusting and ableist to say heās pathetic because heās disabledā¦come on yāall, iām so sick of this.
Honestly I love how wolfstar are both a little pathetic, but they still think the other one is so freaking cool lol
You'll see remus spilling tea all over his grandpa jumpers, complaining about chronic pain, going to bed by nine, hating on every new popular trend and sirius will remain absolutely terrified that one day moony's gonna wake up and discover he's just too cool for him.
On the other hand, sirius trips on every damn sidewalk because he insists on wearing pants too big for his size, whines every morning about his bread crusts and needs remus to kiss any paper cut he might have. And remus is still drooling all over him every step of the way.
hello dear cat, can you please share with the dash your thoughts on little remus borrowing hopeās old dresses to match lyallās wizard robes!!! š„°
ahhhh yess i love this so much em!!! baby remus sees lyall wear his wizard robes and he wants to look as cool as his dad so he goes into his parents' closet to get some of hope's dresses!
or maybe he has a little dress-up suitcase in his room anyways with various old clothes to use for fun dress up games anyways so he diys the most beautiful robes out of some of those and one of hope's old dresses, he's sooo proud of his creation when he comes down for dinner wearing a bright orange dress with green and pink accents that drapes on behind him because he's way too small for it.
his parents both think he looks adorable and he asks if he can get some proper wizarding robes just like his dad? ofc he can, so lyall takes him shopping (to the big city!!!!) but before they even get to diagon alley, where they were meant to go for the robes, remus sees some dresses in a muggle shop window and neither lyall nor remus have been in muggle children's clothing stores before but lyall has some muggle money "just in case" so they go in and remus tries on all the robes (dresses) and chooses a brown corduroy pinafore dress, a mossy green flowy long skirt with a matching blouse and a bright pink princess dress that comes with sparkly shoes and glittery tights.
they are both very happy with these purchases and the cashier definitely thinks lyall is a very excentric gay uncle taking his little nephew shopping for costumes or something.
they're both soso happy and proud of their purchases when they show them to hope, she decides not to tell them about silly gendered muggle clothing norms because really, why does it matter what remus wears at home? they live in a remote cottage on the welsh countryside and remus has had so many struggles in his short life already, if the dresses make him happy then he gets to wear his dresses ("wizard robes just like dad!" "i look so prettyyyy!!" as he spins around in his new dresses happily)!
he never grows out of wearing them and goes to hogwarts wearing mostly skirts and dresses, gaining looks of approval from purebloods who don't know anything about muggle fashion but also many confused looks from muggleborns who maybe clock him as queer long before he knows it himself.
a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on
why is half of fandom culture rn just hate. like everyoneās either talking shit about each other or posting content promoting hate for hc. iām so sick of the only marauders content im seeing be āwhat ur least favorite shipā or āwhat a hc you really hateā or the worst one of all āwhat a popular fic you really hateā. iām actually so lost on when we started to allow this to be acceptable fandom etiquette. you guys do realize fanfic is free right? meaning none of these authors owe you anything. the best way iāve seen it put is āthis is content that is shared with you not made for youā by messrsrobyn on tiktok. meaning take a step back remember that this is supposed to be for fun, and sharing opinions and promoting hate are 2 very different things.
Hello! Welcome to the No More Zero Comments Project! This is a blog dedicated to reducing the amount of fics on ao3 that have no comments at all.
The goal is simple: find fics with no comments, read them, and leave a comment for the author. However, I (this blogs creator) am not in every fandom to ever exist on ao3 so this is not a task I can do alone. That's where you come in!
There are two ways you can do this. One is to go out and find fics with zero comments in your fandoms, and leave a comment. The other is to take a look at the spreadsheet i made with a list of fics i found with no comments and see if there's any fandoms you know. If I did my job right, you should be able to filter it? Who knows, I suck at technology. This spreadsheet will be updated regularly by adding new fics (and removing ones that have now received comments) so there will always be new stuff to see!
So far, the spreadsheet contains mostly fics from @febuwhump collections, as their commentfest is where i got this idea. If you want to submit one of your own zero comment fics for the spreadsheet, you can do so here.
If you read a fic from the spreadsheet and leave a comment on it (or have received a comment on your own fic that is on the spreadsheet), you can let me know here so I can remove it from the spreadsheet (you do not have to do this, I will try to check regularly to see if fics have received comments, but doing it this way will be a HUGE help to me)!
Some preemptive answers to potential FAQs under the cut!
That'd be me, Izak, also known as @lightningzombie! Hi!
Look. I'm not doing this for no reason. Around 14% of my own fics have no comments. In the interest of fairness, I'll only be adding one of my own fics to the spreadsheet at a time. This limit only applies to me as the owner of this blog. Everyone else can have as many as they like on there lol
Nope! It's just a handy tool for if you're looking for something to read, and want to help out an author in need of their first comment. You can go find zero comment fics wherever you usually get fics from
Nope! This is just an effort to increase fandom engagement since it fell off post-COVID. You don't have to report to me about it, you just gotta do it!
Frustration with the lack of comments on my fics and the death of comment culture in general. Bewilderment when I saw a fic that had 1200 kudos and no comments. The joy that leaving 100 comments and receiving 20+ during the Febuwhump commentfest brought me. Boredom. Many reasons!
Maybe! If there's enough interest we could do events similar to justleaveacommentfest.
I mean, yeah, of course. But like, if you're going to the trouble of submitting someone else's fic, why not just leave a comment on it?
(edit: if you want to add a bunch of stuff from your fandoms that you don't have time to read/have tags you can't read then go for it!)
Yes, you do. "I like this" is a comment. "How dare you do that to [insert blorbo here]" is a comment. "<3" is a comment. "KAJSDAKSDHJ WHYYYYY????" is a comment. "I am rapidly approaching your location" is a comment. Just be kind!
For now, no. Ao3 is the platform I've used for a decade and the one I understand. However if you comment on fics that aren't on ao3, that's great! The spirit of the project is so give love to authors so do that on whatever platform you see fit
Happy commenting!
