Remus has always convinced himself he just prefers to be alone. That’s why he gets overwhelmed in parties or feels so small in crowded rooms. That’s why he has gotten used to spending time on his own instead of forcing himself to interact with people.
That is, until Sirius Black appears in his life, and his “alone time” means never being alone again.
Because, as he calmly reads a book, his hand will find its way to a cascade of dark curls and he will enjoy a soft, familiar humming as background music.
As he goes for a walk, he will share one of his headphones with a warm presence next to him and he will blush every time his hand brushes long, cold fingers, and his pinkie intertwines with his other half.
As he needs to cry, gentle arms will wrap around him and a firm caress on his back will remind him he is safe, home.
Next to Sirius, he learns company can be loud, chaotic and exhilarating, but it can also be sweet whispers, a comforting but shared silence and the constant reminder that he, Remus Lupin, can be loved the way he is.

Will never not be upset when people hate on and are rude about the genderfluid/transfem/feminine Sirius headcanons.
I genuinely don't understand why people get so peeved off about it,"it's just to make Wolfstar straight", no it's not, it's for representation, it's because people see themselves in Sirius, it's because the person who created him is a raging terf, or maybe it's just because that's how some people imagine him in their heads, and there is nothing wrong with that. (The only situation i can accept this complaint in is when it's cis woman Sirius x cis man Remus, but otherwise who cares?? Making characters trans doesn't hurt anyone.) Making Sirius genderfluid/transfem/feminine also doesn't take away their queerness and the queerness of their relationship, Sirius is still queer, Remus is still queer, it's not a straight relationship. It's also not something worth sending people death threaths over, I too see headcanons that I don't like, but I just scroll, or I hit not interested and maybe block if it's something like that (that' literally their purpose, interacting with a post you don't like will just get more posts like that on your dash), it's literally not that hard to not be a fucking asshole, it's basic fandom etiquette.
Also this is just my opinion, but I think the gender non-conforming Sirius headcanon makes so much sense for who he is as a character.
(My Sirius has been genderfluid (he/she/they) for literal years, I'm not going to change my opinion just because someone sends a hateful comment. I also really love t4t Wolfstar, I love headcanoning Remus as genderqueer/transmasc, I kick my feet everytime i think about them.)

bonfire night
I need all my American friends to consider this because I need more of it in my Wolfstar fics — bonfire night.
Bonfire night is, obviously, a nightmare. Your whole town squished into a small space, usually a field, but as a queer teen it’s great. ( My first queer experience was holding hands with a girl on bonfire night.)
Imagine for a moment — Sirius Black experiencing that muggle tradition for the first time. Pressed up against Remus cause there really is no room when your whole town is smushed together in one place, an opportunity for him to get close to Remus. Bundled up in a dozen layers and still cold, James’ arm wrapped around him, pitch black sky and seeing nothing but his own breath until suddenly, as the chanting crowd gets to ‘one’ the sky lights up in colour. Remus’ face glowing with reds and blues and purples, Remus glancing at him, hands brushing, fingers intwining because, again, it’s a tight crowd. No one to see this moment between them. Magic for a very different reason. Going home to light sparklers and eat good food and watch tv and the phantom feelings of someone’s hand in his. It’d be his favourite holiday.

I need you to understand that when I say "comments are appreciated!" I mean that I will reply to every one of them. I mean that an email with an ao3 notification has a higher priority than a message from my mother. I mean that I will have entire discussions in the comment section if you're up for it. I challenged myself to paint at least(!) one Sirius Black art a month this year, so here is the April painting! And as I haven’t had much time in April, I made a more detailed artwork :') Well, but it was a lot of fun! I also added a close up because I really like his face in this one :)
we Need more characters in media who are disabled just because their body did that. having disabled characters at all is so rare and usually they were injured in some disaster and they Should still exist but like !! as someone who slowly became disabled for no apparent reason. i want character like me, too

second chronic illness themed @wolfstarmicrofic! this one featuring Remus with endometriosis for Endometriosis Awareness Month! CW for endo symptoms and mention of blood.
“C’mon, pull your shirt up.”
Remus drags his eyes away from the mindless comfort show on the TV screen. “What?”
Sirius sits down on the couch near his legs, curled tightly to his chest. “You heard me. Pull your shirt up.”
“Sirius,” Remus whines. He looks back at the television and curls his arms tighter around his lower abdomen, trying to absorb the warmth of the heating pad cradled there. “Leave me alone, it hurts.” An understatement if there ever was one. It’s like his uterus is a towel being wrung out until he cries, until he almost throws up, until he’s lost so much blood he’s dizzy with it.
A chilly hand cards gently through the curls falling over his forehead and Remus leans into the touch. “I know, baby, but I want to try something. Maybe it’ll help,” Sirius says.
And, well. He has Remus’s attention, but he’s still skeptical. “What is it?”
Sirius holds up a familiar brown tub of cream, one that Remus had bought for his joints and discarded months ago when it gave him no relief. “You haven’t tried it for this, have you?” Sirius asks.
Remus tilts his head, considering. No, he hasn’t. He doubts it will help, what with the big nothing it did everywhere else, but what does he have to lose by trying?
“Alright,” he agrees, and struggles to sit.
“No, no, hey, stay there. Just lift your shirt a bit for me,” Sirius says.
Remus does. Sirius insists on rubbing the cream into his pelvis for him, knowing how Remus hates the scent on his fingers.
Afterwards, Sirius settles into the opposite corner of the sofa, far enough to give Remus’s overheated body space, but close enough that he doesn’t feel alone. And Remus waits, and hopes.
i wasn’t originally planning on writing for the fest but the prompts are so good that i just have to! now the issue becomes how to choose between so many fantastic options…

3 ships i like: Wolfstar obviously, Wolfstarbucks, and ummmmmm. hmm…tbh i’m not sure there is another? i really don’t ship characters that often 😭 (editing this to add prongsfoot! prongsfoot is cute on occasion! yes i clearly have very specific tastes)
first ship ever: the very earliest was probably percabeth? or hinny? idk. but i didn’t care super strongly about either (also i do Not ship hinny anymore HAHA at that age i very much just happily went along with any canon ships presented). the first ship i actually like read fics about and stuff was destiel i think. or drarry, not sure which was first. really exposing myself here 😭😭😭
favorite childhood book: suppose it depends how early we’re talking but other than HP i loved the Magic Treehouse series a lot! oh and Rainbow Magic omg
currently reading: fanfic wise, aka the more interesting part, I Didn’t Come Here to Party, I Only Came for the Cake by attheendoftheday. It’s a gbbo au with messy flawed sirius and mysterious remus (who’s also chronically ill!), very cute, sweet, lighthearted (so far, there’s some mental health stuff in the last few chapters). book wise, just a few books for classes - Gaming Sexism by Amanda Cote, Medieval Tastes by Massimo Montanari, and bits and pieces of others.
currently watching: nothing actually! just finished the babysitter’s club a few days ago so i am tv show-less now.
currently consuming: i just ate a bowl of granola bc cereal for lunch is superior

peter betrayed lily, too!!! everyone talks about peter betraying the marauders and while, yes, they were friends for years and years, lily was their friend, too. she called him “wormy” and cared about him and trusted him enough to let him be responsible for her son’s life.
peter was lily’s second friend who joined the group that wanted her dead. and it’s so tragic because her death came because of these betrayals, too. snape was the one who told voldemort about the prophecy and then peter was the one who told him how to get to her.

Sirius would rebuild the Library of Alexandria from the ashes and even use a time-turner to save as many books as possible, just for Remus, who once drunkenly mentioned that he would've liked to see it in person before it got destroyed.
been debating whether or not it's wise to comment on the whole "fanon vs canon" sirius and remus debate because i think everyone should just write/draw whatever they want for fun, and some people will like it and some won't and that's life baby (and it's also been a long time since i read the source material)
but an idea: two people in a relationship can be brave, intelligent and capable. maybe it's not about one person "stealing" the other's traits, but rather, both of them possess those traits and that's part of why they like each other.

And that...that earns a laugh out of Sirius. A real one, Remus can tell. He finds himself staring at the way Sirius's smile widens until it breaks open, the way his eyes flutter closed. Every single thing this man does is beautiful.

I've seen more and more accounts posting other people's fandom art and putting "credit to artist" in the tags -- that isn't real credit, especially if the artist doesn't know!!!! that is scummy behavior!!!
reblogging that stuff happens on accident sometimes for sure (I've done it myself without realizing!!) but I think we should all try to take some more care to make sure that the actual artist is getting credit and appreciation for their hard work and not someone who is ripping down other's art, reposting it, and de facto passing it off as their own!!
House elf speech patterns and the ‘happy slave’ trope
The way house-elves speak with their exaggerated, broken syntax, subject verb disagreements, and deferential tone bears an uncomfortable resemblance to the way enslaved people have been depicted in film, particularly in movies that glorify the antebellum south.
Take Winky’s syntax :
“But I knows Dobby too, sir!” squeaked the elf. She was shielding her face, as though blinded by light, though the Top Box was not brightly lit. “My name is Winky, sir — and you, sir — ” Her dark brown eyes widened to the size of side plates as they rested upon Harry’s scar. “You is surely Harry Potter!”
Then there’s Dobby:
“Dobby has traveled the country for two whole years, sir, trying to find work!” Dobby squeaked. “But Dobby hasn’t found work, sir, because Dobby wants paying now!”
Even Kreacher, who has a slightly different speech pattern still broadly speaks in the similar affected way.
“Kreacher did not see Young Master,” he said, turning around and bowing to Fred. Still facing the carpet, he added, perfectly audibly, “Nasty little brat of a blood traitor it is.”
This linguistic pattern is not unfamiliar. Compare it to:
Mammy from Gone with the Wind: Miss Melly, this here's done broke her heart. But I didn't fetch you on Miss Scarlett's account. What that child got to stand, the good Lord give her strength to stand. It's Mr. Rhett I's worried about. He done lost his mind these last couple of days
Or Uncle Remus in Song of the South. “Oh, I knows. I knows. I’m just a worn-out ol’ man what don’t do nothin’ but tell stories. But they ain’t never done no harm to nobody.”
The same tropes are at play. Stilted, infantilising speech. These films, particularly Gone with the Wind and Song of the South, glorify the antebellum South by presenting enslaved characters as devoted, content, even protective of their oppressors.
This is where the argument that house-elves aren’t slaves but brownies falls down. If house-elves were truly just magical beings with their own culture, their speech wouldn’t so closely mimic the linguistic markers of servitude used in films that softened the horrors of slavery.
Also intended or not this is a racialised coding that was once used to uphold and justify the absolute abomination of slavery and we should be critical of it.
People complaining about headcanons and saying shit like ‘Sirius would NEVER wear a skirt’ or ‘james would never date regulus/sirius/sybill/literally anybody’ will never not be funny
Like girl. You respect these characters too much if you think they have any free will. They don’t! They are my Barbie dolls and I am a bored 7 year old girl that asked for a lego set and got dolls instead. Plastic hair will be cut. Arms will be broken. They are mine to do with as I please

my fav wolfstar trope is when sirius has remus literally wrapped around his finger. a dog on a leash type of situation. remus obedient and worshipping the ground sirius walks on
“these characters should be mentally healthy before they get together 😌” ummm no I actually think we should smash their mental illnesses together like clumps of play-doh and see what colors it makes
sirius saw remus was in his lighter coloured sweater today, and when he told him he liked it, remus smiled and said he wore it because the weather has been nice lately and the sun was so bright today he wanted to match it :) and sirius wanted to die because remus is so cute to him that he must collapse and die

However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!

You know the scene in deathly hallows where hermione and harry do the sad platonic dance and it’s beautiful and intimate and just so wonderfully sad right?
that same scene but it’s James turning on the radio during the summer post-prank but pre-forgiveness as he gets Remus up to dance a few hours before the full moon. Just a beautiful platonic dance but the intimacy is still deep and loving, James just craving that little crooked smile Remus does right before he laughs and Remus just desperate for a moment of love that doesn’t require Sirius.
