A Mutt and a Bone
Currently playing around with Mutt’s concept entirely due to my tastes in how I write characters like her changing. Definitely gonna be a minor/side character in the SC2 rewrite but ultimately her background is a lot more simple; she’s one of Princess’ kits + one of Cloudtail’s littermates who joined Bloodclan on a whim not knowing of the consequences that would happen later (she got love bombed and groomed into joining essentially - because I am characterising Bloodclan as a cult), she befriends Bone, who is more akin to his canon counterpart and a “nicer” contrast compared to Scourge and Tigerstar’s cruelties in the rewrite, but even then, Bone has his own flaws and is very selective with who he considers family and friends.
More rambling under the cut which I also implore people to read:
Bone’s design being based off a husky had been my suggestion to Bird and also because Bone and Mutt having a mentor/apprentice dynamic was in mind, so they were both going to share themes of having dog-like designs. Unfortunately, it was just another idea I wasn’t credited for (and mocked) along with Mutt being one of the many ideas scrubbed out despite even Bird themselves coming up with a lot of ideas for Mutt of their own.
Mutt was designed to have dog-like eyes. Her appearance would work as exposure therapy for Swift’s trauma around dogs, leading him to eventually adopt a dog (Lynxbite). She was meant to be in the border scene but was replaced by Brick. Which is incredibly obvious if you think about that scene enough; Swift was meant to recoil from Mutt because of her eyes, but instead recoils back from Brick for no real reason. It also made more sense for a lower ranking Bloodclan member, like Mutt, to watch over Darkstripe and retrieve Swift rather than the second in command. Plus, Darkstripe talking back to Mutt was more reasonable than doing so for Brick.
Original thumbnails + sketches before she had been replaced:
I plan to talk more about the border scene when it comes to critique of SC2 stuff.
Mutt’s earlier design - I’ll probably reuse this design for one of her and Cloudtail’s littermates; for reference - Mutt is Livy, then there’s Taylor and Nami. Who are canonically listed on the family tree for warriors.
Her most earliest design:
Still got a long way to go with my human art but human Elishiva when she was younger - the daeva prototype
Personally if someone tried to tear out my eyes I wouldn't let that slide but whatever
Older stuff from last year.
Fatal’s what I like to call a messy and complex victim who unfortunately sees a lot of bad things as normal (and when they are forced into an environment where their normal isn’t normal, it’s their ENTIRE worldview being challenged and they can’t understand why.) and quite of a lot the adults (and people their age) around them are unreliable and take advantage of their conditioning for their own benefit or ego, including the ones considered “morally correct”.
A wip of something I probably won’t post for a long time even when I finish it due to the subject matter (even though it’s only implied and non-explicit.) and if I do I will tag it with the appropriate tags.
This was more of a spur of the moment AU idea but The Three but the prophecy is about them being related to Bluestar. (Can see there being a thing of like; "oh they come from a family tree of halfers no wonder they're x, y, z" b/c silverstream iirc was half-clan, misty and co obviously, storm and feather etc)
It was specifically inspired by this very underrated animation about Hollyleaf and Stonefur:
'She ruins everything she comes across.'
Been brainstorming prequel events in my story involving Fatal's mama, her real name is Briar, and she lived with Elishiva (the white wolf) under the care of Harlan who was actively abusing and grooming them both. He gives Briar, "Ruin" as a nickname which inevitably spawns the dehumanization naming system for Daevas later down the line. TDLR; the lore is essentially during a period climate change is really bad, Harlan was one of the scientists tryna come with solutions to help humans adapt, which was to create the Daevas (spoiler; other people thought his idea was really nonsensical so this man kidnaps two children to do it illegally.)
Admittedly I can recognize the lore is kinda goofy compared to the kind of story I'm trying to tell? I made a chart in obsidian to kind of like, try and explain how daevas work? Or at least the generational developments kind of thing.
Elishiva was first to be spliced and experimented on and Briar came from a family of shamanic healers (still figuring this out too); he exploits her healing abilities just so Elishiva's body endures the abuse and experimentation. Harlan himself is less of a character-character and moreso legitimately just based off "the worst of humanity." If you need a clear idea.
The lore isn't too much of a focus in this story because it is entirely character driven and focused. But animal shapeshifters in this story were created under scientific means, with bits of fantasy sprinkled in it, and are moreso used for symbolism things and a representation of the abuse cycle etc.
Like Asher, Ruin was also another character originally created by the story's co-owner before they abandoned me and everything we shared; I had really wanted to stay true to her original design; but it's unfortunately more dog-like than coyote as I've come to realize.
(E.g; coyotes usually have lighter mask like markings and darker tail tips for example) So the best I could do was reuse the colors from her og design while making it accurate to a coyote's appearance and markings.
scribbles + a style experimentation
A specific design note about Fatal too is their coyote form's design is based off younger coyotes, it's why their ears are big and they look quite baby-faced, even as an adult.
Bristlefrost as a Breeze/Ivy kit! Not sure what her warrior name would be though 🤔
✨️ Oh, but maybe I was ready all along ✨️
flat version:
+ the original art of her done by the ex-co-owner
a little thingy I did for @angrysnakes a bit ago
His name is Marrow, angy boy
Theyre just two scared kids who want to hold onto something familiar and be loved again man that’s so fucked up im gonna go punch a wall or something idfk
Something worries me. I fear a difficult trial approaches. I do not fear death. And neither should you. Death, to a doctor, is but a partner in conversation. Make haste, son. I truly need you.
I love Breeze/Ivy they're so silly
like father
the narrative foil sillies (i love red/blue contrasting themes)
fun fact they're unlabelled/QPR because of trauma they both experience but also because idc for romance
