Fourth in a series I of comics about protesting safety tips I made with @this.is.ysabel . This one is about the dangers of police surveillance and how to avoid it if possible. Keep being safe when you go out. Donāt get snatched!
Ok but real talk here, big, important question for everyone:
Why do you like but not reblog?
It feels like the bare minimum in fandom to reblog stuff you like. Itās the easiest way to support artists/writers and guarantee they do more of that same kind of thing.
Reblog = repost and reposts are evil!!!
Reblogs are different than reposts. As long as the original post came from the artist, the artist gets the credit for it and thatās what they want. REPOSTS are when you find a piece of art you like, save it to your computer, and later make your own post with it, and thatās not cool
Reblogging is too much effort!!
It really, really isnāt. On mobile? Press and hold the reblog button. The post has now been reblogged. On desktop? Hold the alt key and then click the reblog button. Off it goes, letting more people enjoy the beauty of the post you just enjoyed yourself!
I donāt want to tag things though
So then...donāt? Just reblog it with no tags. You want to tag it later, you can. You never want to tag things? Cool, neither do I most times!
I DO want to tag things but I feel like Iām bothering people
I guarantee you, 90% of the time, artists love tags. Even the keyboard smash tags. The ones they donāt love are the ones demanding more art/for the artist to do things in a specific way/to change the art to suit one specific viewerās preferences.
If I reblog things a lot, itāll annoy people!
If people are following you, itās for your content. If it annoys them, they can unfollow you. Thatās on them. If you mean itāll annoy the ARTIST if you go in and reblog their whole art tag...wrong, false, no, definitely not, they might even make more art specifically for you if you do that. Especially if you tag with āI love this piece because...ā and then give a reason why you love it, that is the most encouraging thing.
Reblogging doesnāt fit my blog aesthetic.
Idk what to tell you here, youāre in control of your aesthetic. Make a side blog maybe, reblog there and leave your main ācleanā. Or vice versa. No reblogs = a quickly dwindling supply of art that people are willing to post.
Reblogging is an important part of fandom/tumblr community in general. It encourages more people to make more content which means more things for you to do/see/read.
Itās part of the fandom ecosystem; we have content makers and we have content viewers. Without makers, we have no art. Without viewers, thereās no reason to post it online. If viewers are limited, people start reconsidering whether to bother posting their art online or just share it with their friends they know will give feedback.
Reblogs are how you contribute to the fandom. Try it.
An Article from Neena Susan Thomas
āThrough a rapistās eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewā¦ed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:
1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.
2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women whoās clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.
3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.
4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.
5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.
6] Number three is public restrooms.
7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they donāt have to worry about getting caught.
8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isnāt worth it because it will be time-consuming.
9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.
10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys youāre not worth it.
POINTS THAT WE SHOULD REMEMBER:
1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: canāt believe it is so cold out here, weāre in for a bad winter. Now that youāve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.
2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said theyād leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.
3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.
4] If someone grabs you, you canāt beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh ā HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.
5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guyās parts it is extremely painful. You might think that youāll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and heās out of there.
6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.
7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, donāt dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but youād feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.
FINALLY, PLEASE REMEMBER THESE AS WELL ā¦.
1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.
2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from youā¦. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver wonāt see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.
4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DONāT DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.
5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:
a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .
b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.
c. Look at the car parked on the driverās side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)
6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).
7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!
8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked āfor helpā into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.
Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and itās better safe than sorry.

Most of the ākeep up the work after the protests have ended!ā-type posts Iāve seen are mostly focused on like, reading Black authors and listening to Black voices and unlearning racism, and obviously all of that is absolutely vital - but no amount of individual self-reflection will be able to dismantle institutional systems of oppression. So I wanted to put together some resources for continuing to build a culture of noncompliance and resistance to the police and prison system even after things have calmed down
Know your rights. Giving the police any more information than you absolutely have to will never and can never benefit you or anyone else - positive evidence given to the police is regularly thrown out in court, whereas negative evidence will be used against you. Know what to say and what you have the right to refuse. You donāt have to answer any questions without a lawyer present, you donāt have to give the police access to your house or car unless they have a current warrant signed by a judge. They will try to intimidate you - learn your rights and donāt let up, donāt ever cooperate with the police
Donāt snitch. If you see someone breaking the law in a way that doesnāt hurt anybody, keep your mouth shut. If cops knock on your door asking you questions about your neighbors or anyone you know, donāt answer
Donāt call the cops. If you can solve the problem in a different way, do it. Cops have on multiple occasions murdered the people they were called to help (or bystanders) without provocation. Donāt be complicit in that. Learn how to handle situations as a community or with the help of qualified experts
When you see an interaction with the police happening, stop and observe. If necessary, film the interaction. Organize and work with groups such as Copwatch to observe the police and hold them accountable
Use proper opsec, especially if youāre involved with anything that might make you a target for the cops. Downloading Signal is a great simple place to start
Learn about jury nullification, and spread the word. When serving in a jury, you have the right to vote not guilty on a defendant that you believe did commit the crime but doesnāt deserve punishment for it. Donāt be complicit in unjust punishment
Refuse to do work for the police or prison system. Workers keep the world running and the state relies on our compliance to keep our neighbors under their thumb. We can shut it down
Continue to support bail funds, even for non-protesters. Cash bail is unjust, and people shouldnāt be in jail just because they canāt pay
Continue to support legal defense funds as well, such as that of the National Lawyers Guild
Write to prisoners, either by yourself or with groups such as the Anarchist Black Cross or Black And Pink, and organize/support books to prisons programs, commissary funds, reentry programs, and other forms of prisoner support
Organize and support community-run crisis response organizations like the CAHOOTS program in Eugene, Oregon or the Birmingham Peacemakers in my hometown
Here are some other organizations to join that are doing good work in this area:
Black Lives Matter is obviously a huge voice in racial justice right now. The list of āofficialā chapters on their website is very incomplete, though, so you may have better luck doing a web search for ā[your area] black lives matterā (beware of fakes though)
Showing Up for Racial Justice is another very active and widespread racial justice network
Critical Resistance is a grassroots prison abolitionist organization founded by Angela Davis
The Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement is another active prison abolitionist organization
The IWWās Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee works with prisoners to organize strikes, phone zaps, and other actions combating injustice in prisons
Again, the Anarchist Black Cross does great work supporting political prisoners through letter-writing and more. The link Iāve been including is to an unofficial federation of ABC groups, though - there may be a group in your area thatās not part of that federation, so a web search for ā[your area] black crossā may be better
Black And Pink is a prison abolitionist organization focused on queer people and people living with HIV/AIDS
Antifascism is of course an important aspect of racial justice and community safety. See @antifainternationalās guide to getting connected to your local antifascists - though, again, beware of fakes (the āantifa checkerā accounts on fedbook and twitter can help)
The police state and prison industrial complex rely on the complicity and cooperation of all of us to function and be effective. By building a culture of noncompliance and active resistance, we can drastically reduce the stateās ability to oppress communities of color. Donāt let the struggle be forgotten with the changing of the news cycle - keep up the struggle until all are free!
You hate yourself so loudly. You hate yourself at the top of your lungs. Your loathing for yourself permeates your speech.Ā āSorry Iām just rambling.āĀ āDonāt worry about it.ā āJust ignore me.āĀ āSorry if Iām annoying you.āĀ āSorry I donāt make sense.āĀ āSorry about that.ā Sorry, sorry, sorry. You act as if you have to beat everyone else to the punch. As if the punching bag is you. If you hate yourself first, if you hate yourself loudest, then nobody will hurt you. You clapped your hands over your ears and shut your eyes and balled yourself up so that youād never have to experience peopleās loathing for you. And it meant you never heard their love. You drowned it out. You screamed your hatred over it. And you never got to hear it.Ā

Weāre all having āhard conversationsā about racism, police brutality, and #BlackLivesMatterĀ I hope.Ā
Youāve probably noticed that detractors often use the same āracist talking pointsā in response. Hereās a researched and sourced guide to help you answer, for the times you may get stuck.

fun fact: any policy on drugs that isnāt harm reduction is going to cause addicts to suffer and die
I would love a relationship like Morticia & Gomez! š„ŗš„°
I think one thing that a lot of Addams Family fans forget is that for the family, goth wasnāt about being gloomy and sad or bitter and cynical at all. Morticia was always gazing out at rainy days and declaring,Ā āhow beautiful a day it is!ā or saying thatĀ āblack is so much more cheerful!ā because they found joy in their dark aesthetic. Wednesday was curious and sharp-minded and very clearly exercised and expressed her personal sense of power and self through things like her interest in weaponry and true crime - in the original series and comics, she was always dancing and playing with her brother. Edgy Wednesday didnāt happen until the 90s reboot, and well, it was the 90s. Gloomy grunge and artful sadness were in at the time. And letās not even talk about Gomez, who was so full of life and love for his family that heād often break into song or dip Morticia in the kitchen for an old-fashioned kiss. The Addams worked so well because they were healthy, happy, loving and goth. They were a perfect example of indulging in an aesthetic without letting it become toxic or consuming their lives.

I see that Iāve lost followers today. Thatās okay by me. If my blog offends or upsets you, feel free to unfollow me. I used to say pre-Trump era that I didnāt talk politics with people. I didnāt want to offend anyone. But you know what? My conscience will not let me be silent. This is my blog. It is anti-Trump. Itās anti-racism. Itās anti-misogyny. Itās anti-judging anyone for their body size or religion or sexual preferences or preferred pronouns. Itās feminist as fuck. Itās pro- everybody deserves the same damn rights & privileges as the next person. To be honest, if youāre silent on or in agreement with whatās going on in this country right now, we are not & will not be kindred spirits. I try very hard not to judge others, but on this, I am judging & taking the measure of your character very hard. So unfollow if you need to.
