Put on a good playlist. I like to listen to hip hop, and sometimes EDM when I’m cleaning. Upbeat music is better, in my opinion. Whatever music you like is fine, as long as it motivated you. Play it loud if you can.

Do the easy parts first. See some garbage? Pick it up and throw it away. Dirty clothes on the floor? Stick them in the laundry. Old assignments you will never care about again? File them away or recycle them. You have to get rid of things you know that you will never use. Get rid of as many things as you can. After this step you should see a significant difference in the space you are trying to organize. 

Set up specific locations for things you use a lot. Find a holder for your loose pens, and put it within arms reach of your workspace. If you wear a jacket every day, it might be worth buying a wall hook for it. Labels are great, because they allow you to instantly know if an item is in the correct place or if it’s gone. You don’t need any fancy or expensive organizers, just the furniture you have, a sharpie, and some masking tape.

Make sure the most useful items are out, and others aren’t. If I don’t use something very often, I put it away, out of sight. This makes my room appear a lot more organized, because I only have a few items out in the open.

Finally, ask the hard questions. For me, if I haven’t worn an item of clothing in over a year, I get rid of it. You have to ask yourself, Do I really use this item? Does it contribute to my life or does it just take up space? Does this item make my space considerably uglier or more cluttered? Giving honest answers will allow you to know if the item is worth keeping or not. At this stage, when you have eliminated all of the unnecessary items, you may consider investing in a cute shelf or set of drawers, etc. but that is completely optional. 

Keep it up. This is the hardest step. Every time you use something, put it back in its designated space. After a while it becomes a habit, but it will be difficult initially. Don’t give up! It’s worth it!

Paper Organization

Okay so this for the anon from last week who requested this. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you… things have been crazy.

Important Paperwork

First it’s important to identify some of your important paperwork. These are what I keep set aside, but this is not a definitive list!

Personal identification like your social security card or immigration information

Tax forms I would keep copies of both your last year’s forms and your current forms (original goes to your tax man)

Driver related like copies of your insurance information, certifications or disciplinary information

Rental related like leases or rental agreements

High School/College like degrees and official transcripts

Voting info like voter ID cards or other registration info

Pay stubs keep these for up to six months

Contracts like any agreement you sign with your Internet or electric providers

Expensive items/warranties keep receipts for any item over $1,000 just in case

1. Make a folder. This, of course, doesn’t actually have to be a folder. It can be a binder, a box, I actually use an oversized Ziploc bag to store all my important paperwork. The key is that you choose an item that is easy to handle and secure (so that you papers don’t come tumbling out accidentally). 

2. Setting. Find an out of the way place to store this information. I would store it in a private part of your apartment or dorm room, somewhere not easily accessible. Obviously don’t go around telling everyone and their aunt where your documents are.

3. Commit to it. Anytime you receive a piece of important paper, immediately store it in your previously chosen place. Remind yourself that it will only taken a few extra seconds to properly secure your documents, and doing this sets an important precedent. 

4. Proof of residency. Proof of residence is something that any institution from your university to your health insurance provider may ask for. Proof of residence can be in the form of a rental agreement, utility bills, or pay stubs with your address on them. Always scan these documents and send copies to whatever service is requesting them, never send the originals. 

5. Pay stubs. I recommend keeping a backlog of your voided paychecks. Voided, in the sense that you’ve already deposited them into your bank account or had them direct deposited. When applying for insurance or a new apartment, you may be asked to provide several of these paychecks. Since these can stack up and become bulky, I wrap them with a large rubber band and keep them beside my important paper file.

6. Clip together. I like to paperclip together similar documents from different years. For example, I keep my different lease agreements clipped together.

7. Organize. Every six months, devote a half hour or so to organizing your file. Clean out any paperwork that is unnecessary or duplicated. Keep your documents up to date and as easy to navigate as possible. Always remember to black out any personal information on documents before throwing them out. I’ll clean my cats’ litter box, and dispose of my old important documents in a garbage bag with the poop as an added security measure. If you’re going to steal my information I’d like you to have to sort through my cat’s shit first.

Face tutorial for Anon!

I wasn’t sure whether you meant heads or facial expressions, so here’s a very basic head tutorial! Of course not all faces are the same so proportions and the size of ears/eyes/noses etc. can vary! Feel free to explore and play with them to create unique and interesting characters! I hope this is somewhat helpful, and let me know if you’d like a tutorial on expressions as well!

@geckoghostie wanted to know how I draw shoulders and sleeves so I whipped up a quick how-to using my basic methods. I hope it’s easy to follow.

Disclaimer:  I never went to art school and am NOT an expert in these things, but here are some basic guidelines that I follow when I draw heads.  

Here are some extremely helpful videos by Kienan Lafferty that are pretty close to how I draw heads, so I hope it’s useful for you guys too!

Well, heed my english though, english isn’t even my first language so I hope this list of tips helps you ton!! I just drew all of these now tho:

when drawing a body, there are 3 layers each, the chest , the abdomen and the waist. Reminder that they are separated in bent shapes but are joined accordingly. It kinda gives of a posture?

Joints are the reason that helps arms to maintain its shape equally, plus always make the parallel joints equal to the other when drawing a static body

or in general. its the territory  of the arm??

Fr the hands, for me in most parts, I learned to love to draw hands after I knew about that a square is the basis of drawing hands.

(ps. credits to my brother because he’s the one who told me about it lol)

Though i know there are people who doesn’t use squares as a basis, sometimes you a circle can be helpful.

ALWAYS explore different body shapes, as i said, its gives off diverse character profiles, depending which is which.

But all in all, the key to the goal is always practice!! it’s the only thing that would help you develop your skills the most when you keep doing it! so yeah i hope this tutorial helps!!

These are some tips for drawing the nose. The triangles help constructing, the shading comes after. Look for Istebrak’s youtube tutorial if you want to follow the process.

quick proportion tips

- eyeballs are an eyeball width apart - ears align with the top of your brows to the bottom of your nose, and are the center-point of a profile view - lip corners line up to the center of each eye - hands are roughly the size of your face - feet are the same size as your forearm - elbows are aligned with your belly-button - your hands reach down mid-length of your thighs - both upper and lower legs (individually) are roughly the same size as your torso  (this is all rough estimates for proportion! feel free to add more to help others)

Have two sketchbooks: One for finished and high-quality art (stuff made with Prismacolor or Copic if you use that or art for your portfolio) and the other sketchbook for more messy doodles. This way you have a place to try new things and mess up as much as you need. When I only had one sketchbook I was scared to draw in it because I didn't want to mess it up

Do studies. I cant tell you how much I've improved just by doing studies of shoes, hands, noses, and all that. This works for when you have art block too since you’re not really making stuff up and just learning how real things work.

Learn from others. I’ve never taken a real art class because 1. I can’t afford it and 2. there’s no good art classes/programs at my school. I’ve been following several artists and learning from them over the years and they’ve helped me tremendously. Just please do not steal art because that is never okay.

Break down concepts. If you notice there’s something wrong with your piece then figure out why. You can’t get better if you leave mistakes and don't try to understand whats going on. If the color is weird figure out if the values look right or maybe its the saturation of the color.

Watch youtube tutorials. Here are some youtubers I think are pretty good art teaching all things art: Draw with Jazza |  DrawingWiffWaffles |  Proko |  Baylee Jae

Have an inspiration folder/blog. Sometimes you just need a collection of starry nights or a misty forest or even a French bakery. All of those things can help you get inspired to draw. It could even be completely unrelated to what you plan to draw.

There are no dumb ideas in the creative process. If you want to draw a lizard in a dress go for it! If you want to draw various pastries with faces do it! Don’t let the thought of it being too dumb stop you because if I’ve learned anything in my several years of drawing it’s that an idea can lead to another and another and another and you may get a really good idea just from doodling dumb things.
