The thing that particularly drives me nuts about the whole rap thing is that you could spend the rest of your life not listening to any rap at all and nobody would know. No one will ever quiz you. No one REALLY cares whether you, personally, listen to rap. People talking about cultural attitudes towards Black art are not thinking about you, specifically. Nobody is writing and going "And if Tumblr user so-and-so reads this they'll know I know they only listen to Broadway musicals and that I think they're a RACIST." I cannot fathom the kind of mindset required to see a discussion about the knee-jerk negative reaction people have towards rap and immediately turn that discussion into a confessional where you're like "I don't listen to rap but here are my specific and valid reasons why" like who the fuck are you and why should anybody care.
