so nobody’s gonna talk about how when john and yoko had an explosive fight in the early 70s about if he was still allowed to act like a beatle sometimes or not (john arguing that he had to, especially if he wanted to play with the others!! and yoko arguing that it wasn’t artistic enough) and it was so emotional that he crushed his glasses and then chose to run away and where did he run to?? PARIS FRANCE!!!!! john lennon missed being a beatle and wanted to play with his beatles again, was even looking forward to playing with paul, and yoko wouldn’t let him, so he went to paris. PARIS. in this essay i will

John Lennon Photographed By George Harrison, Presumably On A Flight During The Beatles’ World Tour,

John Lennon photographed by George Harrison, presumably on a flight during The Beatles’ World Tour, 1964; screen capped from Living in the Material World

“I know with John Lennon, John Lennon’s an amazing person who is brilliant, is brilliant. There is no question about it. John Lennon is a saint and he is heavy duty and he is great and I love him. But, at the same time, he is such a bastard. But that’s the great thing about him.” - George Harrison, 1975

“I think probably so much has been said about [John] already. But occasionally, you know, you miss him, because it would be fun to hang out with him. But at the same time, what I’ve got to be believe in over the years is the spiritual thing, that death is only like changing your suit. So now you’re in your physical body, and you’re in your astral body…” - George Harrison on John Lennon, 1987

“[John] was great, he was brilliant, and he was a great soul. Still is.” - George Harrison, Guitar World, April 1988

Rewatching parts of Get Back and I am once again asking—why does John only direct his comment regarding Yoko’s divorce coming through to Paul? Like not even a glance at George or Ringo or Billy? Excuse me, what is going on?

GEORGE: I remember saying, “Well, one of us has gotta be the bass player, and it’s not me. I’m not doing it.” And John said, “I’m not doing it, either.” Paul just went for it. (1995) JOHN: Paul’s bass playing is underrated. Paul was one of the most innovative bass players ever. And half the stuff that is going on now is directly ripped off from his Beatles period. He’s an egomaniac about everything else about himself, but his bass playing he was always a bit coy about. He’s a great musician who plays the bass like few other people could play it. (1980) RINGO: Paul is still, to this day for me, one of the most incredible melodic bass players around. He’s just incredible. (2016) PAUL: As time went on, I realized that I didn’t have to just play the root notes. At first if it was C, F, G, then it was normally C, F, G that I played. But then I started to realize that you could be pulling on that G, or just staying on the C when it went into F. And then I took it beyond that. I thought, well, if you can do that, what else could you do? You might even be able to play notes that aren’t in the chord. I just started to experiment. What could you do? Well, maybe you can use different notes. Sevenths instead of the regular notes, or maybe even a little tune through the chords that doesn’t exist anywhere else. Maybe I can have an independent melody. (2018)

(about the song 'yesterday')

Q: "Apart from being the runner-up in the 'most performed' section, I think that must have been the most recorded number last year... must've been about 400 versions of it. You must have heard some of them. Is there any one that you think is a standout performance?"

JOHN: "Uhh, one by a young fellow called Paul McCartney had a sort of plaintive approach."

PAUL: (laughs)

Q: "A naive charm."

Lennon & McCartney Interview: Ivor Novello Awards, 3/20/1967
