monday warm up, speedpainting study of an LA sunset
(~2hrs)
Opening today, “Abdulnasser Gharem: Pause” marks the first solo presentation by the artist in the U.S. The exhibition features 11 remarkable works of sculpture, prints, and film, and stamp paintings, including this large-scale work called “Camouflage” (2017), now on view in the lobby of LACMA’s Ahmanson lobby. #lacma #AbdulnasserGharem #middleeastart [Abdulnasser Gharem, “Camouflage”, 2017, © Gharem Studio, photo courtesy of Gharem Studio] http://ift.tt/2nSxO79
Now in its final days, “Apostles of Nature: Jugendstil and Art Nouveau” explores the popular late 19th and early 20th century style known as Art Nouveau in France and Jugendstil in Germany. Through a diversity of approaches and materials, Art Nouveau artists across Europe desired to make beautiful things, and to make life more beautiful in turn. The show brings together prints, posters, books, decorative arts, and textiles to illustrate the movement’s efforts to bring aesthetic ideals to bear on everyday modern life. #lacma #artnouveau #Behrens http://ift.tt/2poByh4
This diminutive ceramic sculpture is only three inches tall, but more than 1500 years old! Come discover this and other treasures from LACMA’s collection of Art of the Ancient Americas in colorful galleries designed by contemporary artist Jorge Pardo. Now on view in the Art of the Americas Building, level 4. #lacma #ancientart http://ift.tt/2pno5mv
LACMA’s American art galleries are in full bloom in case you didn’t make it out to the poppy fields. This oil painting on canvas by Granville Redmond can be seen on level 3 of the Art of the Americas Building. #GranvilleRedmond #lacma #superbloom [Granville Redmond, “California Poppy Field” (detail), circa 1926, Gift of Raymond Griffith, photo © Museum Associates/LACMA] http://ift.tt/2nGvDmU
Here is the last photo for today. Part of my 3 favorite photos from @map_pointz and @veteranas_and_rucas. It’s a photo of club kid @playoutsyde at a rave in West Hollywood in 1995. The kids at this time were always experimenting, looking for unique styles and cool graphic design like this Tide laundry detergent box converted into backpack. Some kids also used cereal boxes like Trix or Fruit Loops. Photo courtesy of: @playoutsyde —Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency http://ift.tt/2vEL8LA
Frans Snyders’s monumental paintings of larders and market scenes were originally displayed as pairs or groups of four. “Game Market” hung with a second painting of equal dimensions representing a fish market until both were sold to separate owners in 1987. Check out the painting in the Ahmanson Building. #lacma #FransSnyders #stillife #regram via @unanane http://ift.tt/2sdYCQA
