In 2016, ScanLAB Projects Traveled To The Yosemite Valley And Used Terrestrial 3D Scanners To Replicate

In 2016, ScanLAB Projects traveled to the Yosemite Valley and used terrestrial 3D scanners to replicate the early photographic expeditions of Eadweard Muybridge and Ansel Adams. The technology is a form of active imaging that captures dense, 3D data about object surfaces that included the valley’s vast setting, rugged landscape, and water. More than 150 groundbreaking scans were captured. – For the journey, @scanlab_projects retrofitted their vehicle, a Santa Fe SE SUV donated by LACMA’s Art + Technology Lab sponsor @HyundaiUSA, into a traveling studio where the artists could process and review their data. The vehicle has been converted again into a traveling digital diorama and is now parked on LACMA’s Zev Yaroslavsky Plaza (through April 18), inviting visitors to peer into a ghostly 3D landscape of the Yosemite Valley. #lacma #hyundai #ArtPlusTech #Yosemite http://ift.tt/2nhVHVo

Karina (on The Left) And Her Friend Pose For A Photo At A Lowrider Car Show In Santa Ana CA In 1995.

Karina (on the left) and her friend pose for a photo at a Lowrider car show in Santa Ana CA in 1995. This photo is a perfect example of what a typical Lowrider car show looks like. The cars are beautifully displayed and sometimes, they are decorated with mirrors on the ground and taken apart so the public can look at all the details- the rims, paint job, engravings etc. —Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency

Here is the last photo for today. Part of my 3 favorite photos from @map_pointz and @veteranas_and_rucas. It’s a photo of club kid @playoutsyde at a rave in West Hollywood in 1995. The kids at this time were always experimenting, looking for unique styles and cool graphic design like this Tide laundry detergent box converted into backpack. Some kids also used cereal boxes like Trix or Fruit Loops. Photo courtesy of: @playoutsyde —Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency http://ift.tt/2vEL8LA

Happy Saturday Everyone! I Am Posting This Photo To Honor Southern California'a Youth Culture. Back In

Happy Saturday everyone! I am posting this photo to honor Southern California'a youth culture. Back in the 90s, weekends were about hanging out with friends, going cruising on the boulevard and going to raves and house parties. Here is a photo of ‘The Girls’ party crew at Johnny Rockets on Melrose, 1992 by Los Angeles based photographer, Eddie Ruvalcaba (photographer for Homeboy Industries and former photographer for Street Beat Magazine) “The Girls party were primarily based out of Boyle Heights, Roosevelt High School which is where I went as well. We decided to go to Melrose Ave because it was the place to shop for the best style of clothing. (Dr Martens, Dickies pants and Bomber Jackets)” —Eddie Ruvalcaba To learn more about the rave and party crew subculture in SoCal please check out my page @map_pointz— Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency http://ift.tt/2sBhx4S

One Hundred And Five Miles; Twenty-two Cities; Four Counties; One Monumental Sculpture. Over Eleven Nights

One hundred and five miles; twenty-two cities; four counties; one monumental sculpture. Over eleven nights in early 2012, this 340-ton granite megalith made the slow and steady journey from a Riverside County quarry to LACMA’s campus, where it sits atop a 456-foot-long concrete slot, together forming Michael Heizer’s “Levitated Mass.” The sculpture offers visitors a series of visual oppositions: weight and lightness, mass and emptiness, up and down, natural and man-made. In the words of LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan, it “makes the impossible possible.” #lacma #MichaelHeizer #LACMAPlusYou #regram via #@kidfuture_ http://ift.tt/2nO4B8V

“When I Stand In Front Of A Canvas, I Never Know What I’m Going To Do–and Nobody Is More Surprised

“When I stand in front of a canvas, I never know what I’m going to do–and nobody is more surprised than I at what comes out."—Joan Miró (1893–1983). Today, we celebrate the singular inventiveness of the Spanish painter and sculptor.
