What does work look like? What does a worker look like? What influences how we view—and how we value—workers? “Labor and Photography,” now in its last month, explores representations of labor, as well as privilege and leisure, through 14 photographs from LACMA’s collection. View the exhibition in the Hammer Building through June 11. #lacma #DorotheaLange #photography http://ift.tt/2rpfbbC
This copper sculpture depicts the Hindu gods Shiva and Parvati united as one being called Ardhanarishvara. This androgynous image united masculinity and femininity to emphasize the non-duality of the divine principle. See it now in the Ahmanson Building, level 4. #lacma #sculpture http://ift.tt/2sxqSON
Happy Golfer’s Day! Long acknowledged in Southern California as one of the most important artists of the postwar period, John McLaughlin (1898-1976) created a focused body of geometric paintings that are entirely devoid of any connection to everyday experience, inspired by the Japanese notion of the void. “John McLaughlin Paintings: Total Abstraction” consists of 52 paintings and a selection of collages and drawings that establish McLaughlin as one of the foremost innovators of total abstraction. Swipe through to check out views of the ongoing exhibition, now in its final week (closing April 16). #lacma #JohnMcLaughlin #McLaughlinPainting #golfersday #⛳️ http://ift.tt/2p0D4SQ

On view in the modern art galleries, “Actual Size” (1962) by Ed Ruscha presents an image of a life-sized can of Spam soaring like a comet, a reference to the space race between the U.S. and Russia. Here is the last photo for today. Part of my 3 favorite photos from @map_pointz and @veteranas_and_rucas. It’s a photo of club kid @playoutsyde at a rave in West Hollywood in 1995. The kids at this time were always experimenting, looking for unique styles and cool graphic design like this Tide laundry detergent box converted into backpack. Some kids also used cereal boxes like Trix or Fruit Loops. Photo courtesy of: @playoutsyde —Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency http://ift.tt/2vEL8LA
This Memorial Day, we remember those who gave their lives for our country with Vincent Valdez’s “Excerpts For John” (2012). The series presents an unfolding sequence of a military funeral procession. Uniformed pallbearers carry a casket out of a cemetery and silently march their way through city streets and into an American barrio. The procession carries on until it reaches its final resting place: home. View the series in the upcoming exhibition “Home—So Different, So Appealing: Art from the Americas since 1957,” opening June 11. #MemorialDay #lacma #VincentValdez #pstlala #pstatlacma http://ift.tt/2rOysDB
