People are once again searching for permission that it’s okay to like Harry Potter, and that your feelings about this big part of your childhood are “valid”. Leaving behind all the arguments about Death of the Author and the actual text of the book, here’s something that’s worth remembering.

JK Rowling is a very rich woman.

She’s friends with politicians in her country. Some of these politician have even cited her and her experiences before. And right now, puberty blockers are illegal in the UK. It has become increasingly difficult to get HRT in the UK. Neither party in the UK supports trans rights right now.

This goes beyond her just being a transphobe on Twitter, since that apparently isn’t enough. There is a direct link between her and actual LEGISLATION against trans people.

Are you okay with that?

And please don’t say “just pirate it”. Or are you planning on writing fanfiction that you don’t intend other people to read? Will you be watching this new series or playing this new game in secret? Or are you instead going to be sharing this stuff on social media, putting your house in your bio, encouraging more people to engage in this fandom and generate more revenue for JKR.

Are you okay that every dollar of revenue that you generate for her, as fan of her work, is a dollar that could potentially go to ensuring a trans person in her country suffers more?

You want reassurance that it’s still okay to like Harry Potter, ask yourself. Are you okay with that?

actually I don't particularly give a damn if people do good things for the "wrong" reasons

i wish people would normalize being lost in life and just not knowing anything. not knowing what you’re passionate about, where you want to live, what you want to do, where you want to go— or what lies next. as a society, we normalized going to school, finding a passion, getting a job, finding a partner, getting married, having kids, working hard to earn an honest living. but what about when shit just doesn’t go that way? you really just don’t know. and what’s even worse is, you don’t know why you don’t know or even where to start so you feel alone. you feel as though you’re a disappointment to your family. as if you failed in life. but you haven’t, it’s okay, to not know. to be lost. you have your whole life ahead of you to figure things out. patience is a virtue. there is no time limit on life. you don’t need to rush. don’t allow society to fixate the narrative of having all your shit together at a certain age. it isn’t realistic for most. being lost is so much more normal than we think. and i just wish people would be more transparent about it.

gazing across the abandoned factory in which you sit atop empty crates, you accidentally make eye contact with the ghost that watched the world turn to ruins. their stare is somewhat vacant but the way they wrap their non-existent arms around your bruised torso in a slow waltz to the vintage tunes playing between the radio silence makes you feel more alive than you did shooting at those bastard runaways 

this chaotic stare reminds me of that one beethoven image

put a brace and ice on it and try not to walk on it that much until then <3
