I know this is kind of strange but my favorite fma au idea is where instead of Al obsessively picking up cats and trying to keep them, Ed obsessively finds small, lost children and tries to adopt them.

considered and accepted as canon this definitely happened AT LEAST once POSSIBLY on multiple occasions.Ed will just never accept the fact that sometimes… the bosses and/or dads in your life… are in charge of you….

fma good for a lot of reasons but especialy because of the family relationships in it. like theres literal blood relations like alphonse and ed that are just the PICTURE of Sibling Devotion & Love & Dedication, and trisha and her kids which i cant get into or i’ll cry, lan fan and fu, roy and madame xmas, the weird awkward shitty but still caring fatherson hohenheim & ed and al thing. and then there’s pretty explicit adopted families with izumi and the elrics (she says her son would have been around ed’s age, its absolutely not a leap to assume that theyre sons to her) and the hugheses and winry (elicia calls her big sister!). and THEN theres ones that arent so explicit but are nevertheless very very true, which comprise like most of the series tbh. mustang & the elrics, scar and mei, the chimera dads & ed and greedling, roy and his 700 adopted sisters. its called brotherhood for a reason. im gay yeehaw

remember that time in the same episode as the last ask, when scar is being dealt with and eds arm is blown off and havoc comes and helps him sit up? yeah that. havoc and ed, man!! my parental rarepair!!

I think about that every day. Havoc just right there, at his side, supporting him. And he stays there for a little while, too, helping him sit up and keeping him upright and putting his arm around him and yeesssssss, the Elrics, and the rest of the Mustgang, needs to be talked about moooore.

You know what little moment I always liked? Roy mentally scrambling to find an explanation for Ed when Shou Tucker asked for Ed and Al’s secrets. I always thought it was a nice touch. After all if Roy was uncaring as pretended to be, he would have put Ed on the spot instead of trying to cover for him right?

I agree so much with this!!! And yes, I’ve always LOVED that scene too! Roy clearly makes an effort to cover up for Ed, and it’s not even this little, “well, Fullmetal?” Roy has to fight to find the words for it, and Ed is the one to hush him. And I imagine Roy felt a nice little twinge or pride when Ed went and told the truth.

How could I forget it’s my absolute most favorite scene in anything ever. You want to know why?

Roy Mustang is a very calculated man. Very calculated. I know we all like to pretend that he’s an idiot, and sure, sometimes he is. Sometimes he’s an absolute moron, but he’s not about to throw his life away just to prove a point. He called all attention to himself, okay? He knew that it was raining; it’s his biggest weakness and Roy Mustang does not do weaknesses that he can’t combat. He was perfectly aware that it was raining and he knew what he was doing. He knew what he was doing from the second that he stepped into that car at Eastern Command. 

So, he called attention to himself. He shot a bullet into the air and took all attention away from Ed, even though Edward was currently at Scar’s feet and about to die. He handed his gun to Hawkeye (who hopefully knew what he was up to or at least had a clue) and made himself vulnerable. He didn’t have faith in his abilities; he knew it wouldn’t work. He made himself an easy target. Because now, Ed is forgotten about. Ed is at Scar’s feet but completely forgotten. Roy hasn’t just made himself a target, either. He is the target. This man has been running around killing State Alchemists, saying it was against his god, so he made it clear who exactly he was and why exactly Scar should be targetting him. 

And it works! 

After all, whether they knew who Scar was or not, they knew that he was punishing State Alchemists for their acts against his god. Ed is not as big a ‘sinner’ as Roy is. And Scar, an Ishvalan who dealt personally with State Alchemists and who knows that Roy was one of the worst of the bunch, shifts all of his attention from Ed to Roy. Now, Ed is safe. And now Riza, who is better than Roy is with guns, has two of them and a drive to protect. Putting himself in danger like that was the only way to ensure that they all got out of there safely.

tl;dr Roy Mustang absolutely knew what he was doing; he purposefully put himself in danger to ensure his sons’ safety, while keeping his foolish young upstart facade perfectly in tact.

a concept : back when Roy first acquired Ed & Al, Al finds a kitten on the way to the office and puts it in his armor for safe keeping (as one does) but it wakes up and meows and Riza and others are like "whats that noise" and Al panics because kittens are probably not permitted so he just bursts into Roy's office, hands him a kitten, and goes back out to show that there was clearly nothing making noise. And Roy just has to deal bc he'd die before disappointing like 12 yr old Al

Alphonse: Someone tell my cat hair isn't food

Roy: Hair is food

Maes: Anything is food if you don't care about survival

Here’s something for your soul: Every single time Ed is cold, Roy’s jacket is on him within seconds. Ed doesn’t even get to FINISH the complaint of “its cold/I’m cold” the jacket is already on his shoulders. It’s like a reflex or an instinct. It gets to the point Team Mustang jokes around and says “you might as well just give it to him every time he steps into the office” and flustered Dad Roy™️ is just like “I just don’t want to hear his annoying complaints, okay?!”

I pretty much answer to the philosophy that Ed stole one of Roy’s jackets and drags it around everywhere, and Roy saw that he was happy and warm so he let him keep it and got a new one. Then, SURPRISE! Alphonse gets his body back and g u e s s w h o gets THAT one.

Basically Roy has many jackets and has passed them all onto his sons

It’s a few days following the Promised Day. Al is regaining his strength, although it happens slowly. Ed, save for the occasional spike of pain through the puncture wound in his arm and the dull soreness in his body, is more or less back to normal. He still has a lot to do before the two of them can leave for good—accounts to close, resignation forms to hand in to the military, personal budgets to balance, tabs to pay. What may be weeks’ worth of paperwork he needs to get sorted out before he can finally close the military chapter of his life. He plans to get the jump on it while Al recovers, so the two can return to Resembool as soon as Al’s ready.

So hardly 72 hours following his defeat of Father, Ed is standing at the hospital check-out desk, running through a mental laundry list of loose ends he has to tie up. He flies through the hospital check-out form—name and date of birth and signature and home town. The secretary at the desk takes the papers and makes a small noise. It stops Ed just as he turns to leave. “You’re not 18 yet, are you?” she asks.

“No. Why?” “Then you need someone to sign the parent or guardian line. You can’t check yourself out until you’re 18.” “I’m a state alchemist. I’m pretty sure that qualifies me to check myself out of a hospital if I want.” “Sorry. These are different rules.”

Biting back a comment, Ed twists back down the hallway. He keeps his eyes peeled for the names on the door, hoping (though he knows he’s wrong) that maybe Hohenheim stuck around for a suture or two. He passes Mustang, who can’t help but comment, “You’re in a rush today.” “Of course I am. I’ve got about 800 different forms to sign before the military cuts me loose, and I can’t even check myself out without a parent’s signature. Where’s my stupid excuse for a father?”

He doesn’t stop to gauge Mustang’s reaction. He rounds corners, climbs stairs, sharp eyes bouncing back and forth from room card to room card. Nothing with “Hohenheim” on it. Nothing even close. His arm aches—both do, actually—but he hardly notices past the aggravation brewing in his mind.

And after 20 minutes of rounds, he ends up back at the secretary’s desk, more flushed than before, arms folded over his chest. “My dad’s not here. How much do I have to pay you off to let me go?” She looks up at him, somewhat confused, and somehow much more tired than before. She blinks behind dusty glasses. “Oh…No, you’re free to leave now. …I guess.”

“Well why didn’t you tell me before?” Ed asks. She pulls his form out and pushes it back to him. Ed takes it, turns it, scans it. All the parts he’d filled out are still there, but the bottom has changed since he last saw it. On the line, in tight blue ink, is “Col. R. Mustang, (Military Commander)” Ed blinks, brow knitted, because the line goes on: “Lt. R. Hawkeye” is looped in neat cursive beside it. Black ink below: “Izumi Curtis” then in thick blockish letters, just the word “Sig”. Taking up the most space, and done in the neatest, most brilliant cursive font: “Major Alexander Louis Armstrong”. To its right is an almost flat line, with just enough bumps to perhaps say “Gen. Olivier Armstrong”. A flowery “Maria Ross” and a messy “Denny Brosh” (both in to visit Major Armstrong). A “Zampano”. A “Jerso”. A “Heinkel”. A “Darius”. “Tim Marcoh” is squished in the paper’s dwindling space. “Kain Fury” “Heymans Breda” “Vato Falman”…

Ed glances up to the secretary, who looks suddenly so tired. “We just… At least one of those is…probably valid. You’re free to go. You’re released.” Ed nods, smiling and peddling backwards. His one metal leg clanks with each step. “Right, thank you!”

The secretary leans over her desk, shouting to keep up with his happily retreating figure. “Just so you know, these are official documents. Patient protocol is not a game. It doesn’t reflect well on me if your Colonel thinks it’s okay to round up half the hospital to sign–this is not a “get well” card–just…Please tell him not to do this again!”

“Oh sure thing,” Ed shouts back. “But that depends on how difficult you plan to be with Al.”

edward elric and the case of the many parental figures

Brotherhood hc: Ed and Al were always on pretty even footing when they were still on their journey, but the moment Al gets his body back Ed starts having watch-the-crib-at-night Parenting Anxiety? In the hospital after the Promised Day, Ed breaks out of his room three times before they just move his bed in where Al is. His three million parents keep telling him "Listen, you need rest too, he's taken care of" & Ed's like "bUT *I* NEED TO TAKE CARE OF HIM WHAT IF HE NEEDS ME" "Ed it's ok" "NO"

I’ve always loved Ed’s “Only I can protect Al” moments in fanfiction, but it’s true they were on pretty equal footing in canon.

I’m imagining all his parents protesting at first but then realizing that if they’re in the same room they can watch over both of them at the same time.

Truth, the smiling smug bastard who made everyone’s life hell in FMA:B. Or did he?

 Let’s start with our favourite kick-ass mother, Izumi.

Izumi opened the portal of truth in order to try and revive her child that she lost in childbirth, and because of her ignorance Truth took her ability to reproduce, unable to have children of her own anymore.

Except, because of what she went through, and her ability to perform highly complex alchemy, she gained two sons. Ed and Al

Moving on to the Flame Alchemist Himself.

Roy Mustang had his eyes always looking to the future. He kept his eyes forward, aiming to be the country’s leader. Truth took away his sight.

Except, with this he was able to remove his tunnel vision and expand his views to see the work that needed to be done in Ishval and devoted his life to it.

The Elric Brothers?

Ed and Al wanted to be a family again, and wanted to feel a mother’s love again, and so Al lost his ability to feel warmth, and Ed lost his leg to stand with his family. They were a broken, incomplete family.

Except, their quest to get their bodies back gave them a family greater than a mother and father. Their family grew to one of huge sizes, whom supported them the whole way.

Truth is one, Truth is all, Truth is God, Truth is the universe.

Truth took away 10, and gave back 11.

I have an idea for an Ironhusbands prompt. There's all these stories about Tony having nightmares and Rhodey comforting him, but what if it was reversed. What if Rhodey has nightmares about not being able to find Tony in IM1, or Tony dying when his house was destroyed in IM3, or something that happened in any of the other Avengers movies or Civil war. And Tony comforts him.

You think he doesnt feel that? You think he doesnt worry? You think he doesnt see that punk kid he adopted during his college years and never let go of? Hes known Tony since they were KIDS.

Hes known Tony when his parents died. You think he’d welcome Cap back with open arms, after he held Tony as he cried in his arms, saying “rhodey, I dont-i cant-im 21, ill never be enough-i miss her, I never told them-”

You think that he’d just go “yeah, that’s cool,cap, you helped RUIN my best friend but we’re okay”

And you think that he doesnt see Tony and thinks “I should be there, I should HELP”

Like I dont care if you ship them or not, the fact that we so blatantly disregard how rhodey must be feeling in that scene?

He wants his fucking best friend back. He must be fucking devastated inside, but instead he cracks jokes and does what he can, instead of being torn up with worry, instead of showing it.

The thing I love about rhodey+Tony is the pure level of trust and comfortable aura they have? In age of Ultron, as soon as rhodey shows up, the tone changes entirely. Tony’s cracking jokes, hes happier, hes caring, Hhdhdhrhjrjrururh

And so yes, Steve’s lines are iconic and yes I stan, but at the same time, can we stop pretending that rhodey wouldn’t be doing anything and everything to get his fuckinf best friend back?

He watched him drive off in the desert and come back a different man. You think he doesnt think of those 3 agonizing months as soon as he sees Tony’s gone? You think he doesnt fucking love him?

You think he wasn’t thinking, “what if this is it, what if the last time we talked was the last time, what if hes gone forever?”

God. I couldn’t imagine what Rhodey must be feeling in that scene. But instead he tells jokes, and he does what he can, because that’s what Tony would want him to do.
