So it turns out that because I was using tumblr mobile, I’ve been accidentally uploading all my single-image pictures as text posts without realising it. But all the posts with multiple images were uploading as image posts as intended???
On the one hand I feel rightly embarrassed for not realising for so long, but on the other hand, VERY FUNCTIONAL WEBSITE
