Everything Coming Out About Dream Right Now And The People Defending It Simply Because “he’s Autistic

Everything coming out about Dream right now and the people defending it simply because “he’s autistic uwu” just reaffirms to me something that I’ve known since childhood— autistic men will always be coddled while autistic women are belittled.

It’s not only infantilizing to people with autism, but offensive. Being neurodivergent is never an excuse for having a fundamentally insane predisposition and worldview, and exploiting and hurting other people. I can’t believe I have to say this!

These days there are legal systems in place for adopting an adult, even for adopting someone out of adult foster care (like someone could probably adopt Genie Wiley.) That's probably the closest example to what they did.

…how does adopting an adult even work..? I’m a little thrown off by that part, but regardless it seems to have been the best thing that could’ve happened for Horace. He sounds lovely, and it seems a shame the world couldn’t have had him in it for longer.

I honestly don't know. Horace was a ward of the state, as his family had handed over all rights in 1921. Unfortunately, my grandparents and my uncle who adopted him have all died so the specifics are unavailable to me.

I love people with npd so much. I’m sorry that world is so ableist. I’m sorry that you can’t be anywhere without hearing the word ‘narcissism’ or ‘npd’ used in a negative light. I’m sorry that there isn’t anywhere near enough support.

I’m so sorry that you can’t win. It must be so suffocating and aggravating, living in a world where it feels like everybody hates you. You deserve better.

no you won’t be “high support needs” “like me” if you just unmasked, especially if choose to unmask, thank you very much.

i wish people knew what a developmental disability was, and I wish people didn’t think intellectual disability made you undeserving of respect.

i am developmentally disabled. i am not intellectually disabled. while I am semi independent, i still need some external assistance for my developmental disabilities. i keep investigating programs for housing, job assistance, etc. for “people with developmental disabilities” and not qualifying because I don’t have an intellectual disability.

yes there should be programs specifically for intellectually disabled people. but do your research on what a developmental disability is before offering us services.

and STOP saying “oh but you’re not INTELLECTUALLY disabled” “but you’re not one of THOSE disabled people.” Intellectually disabled people deserve respect.

abled people really act like if your illness or disability isn’t terminal then you’re not allowed to complain about it or grieve the life you thought you’d have and it’s so fucked up

[ID: An Etsy Listing For The Shop ShaneIsCreationsLLC With A Picture Of Three Badges. The First Badge

[ID: An Etsy listing for the shop ShaneIsCreationsLLC with a picture of three badges. The first badge is red and says "stop, planned ignoring in progress, thanks for helping to ignore attention seeking behavior." The second is yellow and says "Need help!" The third is green and says "all clear, OK to approach." The name of the product for sale is "Behavior Support Badge Cards, Communication Cards, Special Education Behavior Management, ABA Therapy Materials, Visual Communication Tools."]

found this on etsy when i was looking for AAC communication cards for myself. i guess the new aba therapy is making autistic people wear badges that tell everyone to ignore them. i wonder how many people would accept a parent or teacher doing this to a neurotypical child? an adult doing this to their partner? a manager doing this to an employee?

as my own direct immediate list of game grievances i hate that stardew valley expects you to side against a wheelchair user who is upset that he was moved without his consent. i hate that the mass effect trilogy gives you visible scarring as a direct result of choosing mean dialogue and heals it if you're nice. i hate that the vampire the masquerade ttrpg has a monstrous player class that can appear as horrible vampiric monsters or as visibly disabled people and both of these appearances are mechanically the same. i hate that dark souls games have a difficulty level implemented in a way that cannot be adjusted for disability. i hate that i can play as a mermaid or a werewolf or a horse in the sims games but can't use a wheelchair. i hate that the ace attorney games have so much flashing and not all of the games can disable it. i hate that disability is constantly something that happens to teach a lesson, i hate that disability is something that happens as a punishment, i hate that disability is either compensated perfectly with no drawbacks or something that is endlessly sought to be cured. i hate that no character customization will ever include the mobility aids i use, that the player avatars that represent me will never look like me. i am so goddamn annoyed and so goddamn tired.

I wish there was a law against strobe bike lights. Last night i literally had a seizure because my boyfriends roommate got home when I was outside, and suddenly the yard was strobing.

Like okaay, TV rules were changed cuz of that one episode of pokemon that gave kids seizures right? So how come its chill that people can ride around through town with strobe lights attached to their bikes? What if a kid is in a car behind you and has a seizure? What if someone is walking down the street and suddenly your bile is the reason they are in the back of an ambulance?

As someone with photosensitive epilepsy, I've been taught my whole life to avoid the flashing triggers. When things are flashy online youre told to just avoid the internet, when stores have bad lights dont shop there, no clubbing or parties because there will be strobes. It feels so unfair that even when we go out of our way to avoid seizure triggers, people still will find a way to make your world smaller and smaller.

Even on a not epilepsy note, they are literally more unsafe for bikers because the strobing light makes it harder for night drivers to tell how fast and where exactly you are than a non blinking light......

wheelchair users deserve a minimum of three wheelchairs to meet different needs. like, bare minimum of indoor chair, outdoor chair, and off road chair. chairs that meet different needs for transport, activity, positioning needs, energy levels, etc.

there is not "one chair" that can meet every need. wheelchair users deserve to have multiple chairs that meet specific needs, no matter how complex their seating/positioning needs. we deserve to at least have a backup if our chair breaks that is just as suited to our needs.
