On Monday, May 20th at the Moncton Lion’s Club in Moncton New Brunswick, history was made as Eugene London, a one-armed MMA fighter, stepped into the cage for the very first time against 6 fight veteran, Norm Robichaud. Eugene lost his arm as a result of a farming accident but he didn’t let that stop him from achieving his dreams. This was all part of the action packed amateur fight card that included 10 of the best matches that Atlantic Canada has ever seen.
A kata is a story. It is our job to tell that story. We must allow our hands and feet to embrace each movement as we grasp at its essence, and in complete unison of mind, body and spirit, unmoved by thought, we express that story.
A story that tells the tale of a warrior challenged to a duel, through the physical expression of the practitioner.
When the practitioner becomes advanced enough, the kata no longer tells the story. The practitioner does.
