Max as always is the only one who understands anything ever. He's out there defending Checo with his full chest every race, why does the words of a 3-time world champion fall on such deaf ears.
Also Checo knew his quali was ruined before it started because of how poorly Redbull was managing this weekend, that's why he made sure he wanted to help Max and contribute what he could even with such terrible conditions.
The RB20 is trash, both of them have complained about that, and Red Bull only fixes Max car, which is understandable because he's their number one driver, but Red Bull could be first in the WCC if they fixed both cars, not treat Checo like a lab rat
So think of that before insulting Checo, because we all know what he's capable of

I feel a bit disgusted(?), infuriated(?) about how some people still complained about how China celebrated Zhou during Chinese GP and made a special spot for his car after the race?
First of all, the ceremony isn't that big that it overshadows the winner. The race still happens as it is. The crowd still hype the drivers and the winners/podium seaters. No spotlight was taken. It is still a normal GP and throughout the week, they didn't make it like a "ZHOU GUANYU GP"
Second of all, it is NOT about Zhou's achievement in F1. It is about how China WANTS to appreciate Zhou as the first Chinese citizen to make it into Formula One. It is not about him finishing P1 or P100. It is about him MAKING IT IN. "Oh but Zhou used sponsors to get in-" so did 102738373 drivers before him, in which some of them still stayed several seasons without scoring a point. Why is a "sponsor-backed" driver now only becoming a problem once it's Zhou? Stop acting like F1 is not a money motivated sport. Zhou can get whatever sponsor he wants but he also WORKED HARD and on behalf of his country, he made it in. Regardless of where he placed in the race, he fucking made it and that's whats matter.
The people in China and the young aspiring kids from China have their FULL RIGHTS to celebrate their home hero in their home race. You don't have to win 100 trophies to deserve appreciation. Zhou Guanyu may not be your hero. But he is someone's hero out there because he made it. Because he proved to those kids that SOMEONE from China can also be an F1 driver.
Lastly, if you think it's still weird for a country to do all that, i'm sorry that your country is so shit at respecting and appreciating its citizens' achievements.

Maybe I’m over thinking things but it feels like a lot of what determines if someone gets labeled a pay driver or not is race
Off the top of my head the drivers that are called pay drivers currently on the grid are Lance stroll, Checo Perez, Zhou Gaunyu, and Yuki Tsunoda. When Lando Norris’ dad has paid a lot to McLaren during Norris early career, Ollie Bearman’s dad currently sponsors him, Liam Lawson’s career was funded by New Zealand companies, etc, but none of these drivers are ever called pay drivers.
The same level of scrutiny surrounding how driver’s of color fund their seats/careers is not applied for most white drivers, especially if theyre anglos
And even when it is true that a driver is a pay driver, like Lance Stroll, I still find it icky that around 80% of things said about Lance Stroll, the only Jewish driver on the grid, is about how wealthy his family is.

checo had his entire race ruined after struggling in a tractor most of the season, his father suffered a pre-heart attack that same morning, his team FINALLY admitted to ignoring his car concerns and blaming his mental health for over a year, all while being letting him be dragged through the mud of horrifically racist and xenophobic press and fans that sometimes even threatened his wife and kids...
brother it is a MIRACLE of a testament to his character that he HASN'T completely broken and gone insane while staying as controlled and gracious as he is. No one deserves to go through that kind of mental and emotional strain. If he had picked up a golf club and started swinging at everyone in sight I would've understood why he snapped. But he can't, white people are already clutching their pearls over him merely being upset on the radio right after his crash. He knows that nonwhite people are never allowed any grace and empathy for expressing any level of anger or frustration. Look at Yuki, look at Lewis! In the end the world will always side with a white man when there's a Person of Color involved.
So Red Bull allowed people to be horrible about Checo for over a year and it turns out that actually it was an issue with the car all along (since Barcelona 2023!!!!!) and instead of looking at anything they just ignored Checo's struggles because hey Max was fine (aka driving around issues, like he's done before, and which is a problem they've run into before!!!)
I'm so sorry for Max and Checo but the team deserves these struggles at this point. Fucking hell.
If only they had listened to Checo and taken his issues seriously instead of letting the media and fans crucify him, maybe things wouldn't be so bad right now.

these cars can go up to almost 380 kilometers an hour and can be as loud as 147 decibels. if checo was trying to speak to carlos through not only their helmets but also their ear protection HE'D BE SPEAKING TO A BRICK WALL.
