OFF TO THE RACES LOUIS & LESTAT
(youtube)
i'm so tired of ed and violence discourse in this fandom holy shit
like ed is violent. OBVIOUSLY. he is a pirate. they are all violent professionally and often recreationally. this is largely COMEDIC on the show.
but ed is also one of the ONLY pirates on the show to have an entire fucking plot arc and character backstory specifically about HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH VIOLENCE and his hangups about what violence he personally enacts.
a plot arc about how traumatized he is by defensive violence he committed when he was an abused child! a plot arc about how he has never been able to get himself to do that same kind of violence again and has to distance himself from it by degrees to be able to sit with it when it's shown to be something that would not bother almost any other pirate! and certainly not one of his level!
canonically, he is careful about the violence he perpetrates and what he delegates for this exact explicit reason! canonically, we only see him actually do any violence onscreen when directly provoked, canonically, it is often extremely calculated and emotionless because he is performing it for a specific purpose and he still requires distance!
yet people look at that and go, "actually ed is a uniquely violent berserker sadist who routinely lashes out at everyone!!!"
and it's not only racist as hell but it so clearly the result of a specific agenda!!
the issue isn't that ed does violence. that is empirical fact. it's that some of y'all want to portray him as an uncontrollable monster because that's what you need him to be for whatever bullshit narrative you're trying to build. and then when anyone doesn't buy into said bullshit narrative, you disingenuously suggest that people who attempt to approach his relationship with violence with the same degree of nuance as the actual fucking show are trying to act like he's never violent at all. so clearly you are the reasonable one to suggest that the horrific boogeyman that is explicitly an exaggerated image he feels trapped by is his True Self.
it's nonsense!! grow up!
going absolutely insane at jacob having a whole face journey while sam talks about his babysitter showing him stephen king's it at age 6 and how he would deadass run around his neighborhood hoping to be taken by pennywise, calling it a "positive experience".
tbh i talk a lot of shit abt how insufferable ed and stede are gonna be once they’re back together but yknow who’s going to be the most insufferable?

Wilhelm: “Wow. Can’t believe I’m going to burn the entire Swedish monarchy to the ground for this nerdy little choir boy I met six months ago.” Literally everyone else: “You don’t have t-” Wilhelm: “No, I’m gonna.”
Every time I think about the fact that Akechi was Joker’s justice, and vice versa, I lose my mind at how intimate it is.
Akechi made you promise before he died to take down the man that had hurt you both, and when another man brought him back to play puppets he asks you to put an end to it as well. Akechi’s justice was never about him doing the final strike, his was allowing someone else to do it for him. His justice was having someone who cared enough to listen to him, and to do as he wished.
But for Joker, his justice was taking down the man who had killed his friend and framed him with his own two hands. His justice was deciding, that no, he refused to live in an illusion and then did something about it himself. Joker’s justice was taking the injustice done to you, and those around you, and being given the chance to end it yourself.
Akechi’s justice was having someone listen, and Joker’s justice was being given the chance to enact it himself. They perfectly mirrored each other, and understood what the other needed without even saying anything about it. It’s just so intimate, how could I not lose my mind over them?

i couldn’t get the scene of edward returning to the revenge without stede out of my head…
i am plagued by silly character loving thoughts
2.07 | 3.12
The X-Files 3.22 | Quagmire
I really hate the “Kraken Ed is violent with Stede at the reunion” trope, not just because of everything wrong with making Ed overly violent, but because the kid who killed his father at 12 for abusing his mother would never lay a hand on the man he loves.
If anything I could see him saying something rude but warranted, and then immediately breaking down and apologizing about it
But at the end of the day and despite her best intentions, there was one truth even she was unable to see. That at some point, progress cannot begin… and suffering will not end… until someone has the courage to go out into the woods and drown the damned cat.
