Hi! I was wondering if you had any tips on studying for long periods of time like you do?
I saw you had studied for ten hours in one day and I have never managed to stay focused that long.
Would really appreciate if you had any advice but if you're busy no worries and ignore this!
Thanks!
Hii :)
My 10h of studying seem crazier than they probably are- a lot of it is re-planning my study schedule, petting my dog with one hand while trying to write with the other, google definitions etc. but maybe this is still somewhat helpful?
-task mix & match
I don’t write for 10h straight, most of it is a mix of writing, reading, drawing sketches etc.- pretty much anything that makes my „normal“ task a bit less boring :) so: including as many productive task-solving variations
-frequent breaks
I try to put ~5min long breaks in between each (topic) section that I cover + a longer break where I do something non-study related if I notice my focus disappearing
-coffee + instant sugar
Tbh, without it I wouldn’t be alive lol if coffee doesn’t give me back my energy I usually resort back to eating an unhealthy amount of sweets to make up for it lol
-movement
Not as in stretching in my breaks but I’m constantly moving to keep my brain stimulated🥲 - changing the way I’m sitting, drumming along to a song, spinning on my chair (the adhd is adhding huh)
-switch noise input
I usually start studying without music and turn it on once the topics get boring / I lose motivation to switch up whatever I’m doing atm. 2000s „club music“ (aka hips don’t lie by shakira) is somewhat helpful?
-rewards
For me it only works if I really lose my entire free time to studying but having something to look forward to once I achieve whatever I’m studying for works quite well rn? I’ll either buy myself procreate or a new game once I pass my (written) finals :)

Burnout is honestly such a mild word for what people use it to mean. I'm not experiencing "burnout", which sounds so casual and routine that some face masks and a little rest is going to fix it.
My body and mind and even nervous system are stretched to the point that it's going to take a lot more than just a "break" or a few self care tips to recover, and even then, my recovery is just so that I can reenter the spaces that contributed to me being this way in the first place. I'm a little bit more than just burnt out by this.
Workplaces and educational institutions aggressively overwork us, expose us to all kinds of discrimination, which they overlook and gaslight us out of acknowledging, and then constantly ask us to ignore our mental, emotional, and physical needs so that we don't inconvenience them.
We're not burnt out. We're borderline traumatized. Burnout is always talked about like something transient and mild that a little rest and relaxation will fix.
But we're exhausted. We need deep rest and healing. We need new systems. We need new ways of being. The language around burnout just seems like a way of upholding these current violent systems and downplaying their impacts.

Hey kid you want a job?
Great get online and go to a job board. Indeed, Linkedin whatever. Now you're gonna search for a role that's in your city, fits your qualifications, and doesn't seem like a bad time.
See that easy apply button? Don't hit it they just throw those in the trash. Now you're gonna want to go to the company's website and check their careers page.
Oh? That job doesn't exist anymore. Cool go back to the job board and find another one.
Great you found another job, you're on the company's career page and the job exists!! So you're going to need to make an account on the career page website. They're using Workday, the same site as the last job you applied for? Who cares? You need to make another account for THIS job's workday page.
Now you're going to upload your resume. That'll autopopulate about 15 boxes with everything on your resume, except formatted wrong and with tons of errors. So just go through and painstakingly check the dates on all of that and rewrite everything you already laid out in an aesthetically pleasing format on your resume.
Ok time for the cover letter, explain why this specific job and company are deeply important to you. You love their mission statement and wouldn't even laugh if their ceo was gunned down in the street. You'll really want to reiterate the things you just spent the last 20 minutes filling out on the resume section
(Remember to include language from the job description, people who work in HR are lower than dogs and they need patterns or they get confused.) Write about a page, but hey don't sound too desperate or robotic this is where they judge your character!
Maybe add your portfolio site at the end here, who knows if that helps no one has ever clicked mine haha.
Anywayyy time to hit apply! Congrats! You'll see that confirmation email come in and you should be getting the rejection letter in about 2 weeks. Unfortunately your resume didn't have the right buzzwords and the AI auto rejected you :(
Time to start again and try not to kill yourself!
