This is what I’m SAYING. It’s history happening right before our eyes, and for once, that is a good thing.
like obviously i am emotionally invested in buddie going canon from like, a character/story perspective but from a 'got a degree in sociology, has been on tumblr since 2012, was once a superwholocker' perspective, i am FAR more invested this shit is delightful and fASCINATING. despite all the shit in the world, despite the backlash towards LGBTQ people happening right now, there is a major network television show that already made one half of a m/m fan ship canonically bi, had him fuck a (different) man, and is now poised to make the pairing canon after more than SEVEN SEASONS OF SLOWBURN. like: they are a pairing that started as a classic wink-nudge jokey queerbait, possibly nearly went canon years ago before that was shutdown, but now it is HAPPENING. and no, i'm not here for arguments that it isn't. i know better than is good for me, what queerbaiting looks like, and it DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THIS. i have been in like 15 different shipwars for queerbaited pairings. I am that fan who once went up to the showrunner of OUAT in a restaurant to tell him, personally, to his face, that queer fans like me deserved better. and now, eight years after that incident, the queer fans of an ABC tv show might just be getting that 'better'. like. what the fuck. how did we get here?
this is a phenomenon that has literally never happened once on live action american television, and we are all watching it unfold, whether actively or via the persistent ubiquity of fandom osmosis and i am studying this show and TPTB and the actors and the fans like BUGS
No cuz when he was saying „Just take my hand“ i kept screaming „no no no no no no you can’t do that to him, please you can’t just DO that to him, no no no NO - oh thank god.“
Did someone already talk about HOW PRESENT Buck 1.0 was in this ep?
"just grab my hand" the lady on the cross -> Devon
Bobby stopping Buck from smashing something : pipe baby's wall -> Elmer's door
No Eddie
Sleeping with people without having feelings for them
Living in someone he loves' house
Eddie's in El Paso trying to rekindle old friendships along with his relationship with Christopher. Some things may, or may not, be better left in the past.
Or; Eddie meets up with a friend from high school who provides him with some helpful insight into their past friendship as well as a new lens to view his current ones through.

Bobby Nash dad through and through. only a dad repeatedly drops a bizarre piece of self lore that has somehow never come up in years and walks away. oh you were a childhood figure skating champion? oh your mom is a televangelist? and also not dead? your wife just found this out too? this is the guy whose known lore has a body count in the triple digits btw. I love Bobby so bad
Chim, struggling with a recipe: Eddie, can you Google how many ounces are in a cup? My hands are covered in flour.
Eddie: Sure, one sec. Buck!
Buck: Yeah?
Eddie: How many ounces are in a cup?
Buck: Eight.
Eddie: Thank you.
Chim: Now, what the hell was that?
Eddie: Six years, Chim. Haven't had to Google a thing.
Chim: Mmhm, why don't you ask Buck what the definition of codependency is next?
Ok I need everyone to understand that Buck and Eddie are both products of their upbringing. Buck was a child of neglect, which led to him having abandonment issues. While Eddie was a child forced to grow up too fast, which led to him having hyper-independence. Two different kind of traumas. Two different kinds of trauma response. Which would require two different kinds of help.
Buck and Eddie help each other overcome these things and because they are two different kinds of problems, the way they help will ALSO be different. Ever since they met, Eddie has always been there for Buck (don't even fight me on this) and Buck has always given Eddie what he needs. It will look imbalanced, but it's really not. They both need SOMEONE in their lives, just in different ways.
Buck doesn't need someone to take over his lease, or to take care of his son, or to help him figure out childcare, he needs someone to Not Leave Him Alone. Eddie doesn't need someone to tell him he's not expendable, or to be reassured he's trustworthy, or to be promised he's not going to be abandoned, he needs someone to Give Him a Helping Hand. And the moment they became friends they have been those SOMEONES to each other.
They are each other's persons. Equally.
walk with me here…… eddie is fighting with his mother and she says “and that man you let hang around our grandson! he is clearly in love with you!” “buck is not in love with me mom” *scoffs* “okay”
please
Actually OBSESSED and i usually don’t even like edits!! I actively avoid them most of the time!!! BUT THIS IS SO GOOD!!!!
buddie | call me when you break up
(watch in 4k)
oh hey by the way watching tonight's episode was wild and reminded me that i wrote a fic where tommy taylor accused buck of being in love with eddie so he went to talk to maddie about it and kept talking about how he'd never allowed himself to think about it bc eddie is Straight™
anyway this is just me saying if you'd like to read a fic with that plot you could read finding our way (back home)
which was literally written in the middle of s5 in 2022 lol
8x11 is the buddiest episode we've ever gotten and one of them isn't even in it
Boutta‘ hop on ao3 and just keep refreshing the page like a madman
i’m sooo excited for the fics that are gonna come from that episode
"So, Eddie pays the tab, we both run out to the parking lot, and there's a boot on my front tire". Thanks for including the detail that Eddie paid for their food or drinks. Oh this was a date. Wish we could've seen it. "We're not gonna make the game". That was the Lakers' game by the way. A gift from Buck's ex-boyfriend for their 6 months anniversary. They're crazy for this.
literally any time Eddie does something that turns out to be illegal
The way Buck is still trying to cling for relationships that are not right for him, while basically admitting that he tries to force his way into feelings, though. Like, this episode, he considers rekindling a relationship that is six feet in the ground before immediately pulling the line "and I don't have to have feelings for everyone I sleep with" the moment his relationship with Eddie is challenged, making it abundantly clear that he he does NOT have feelings for Tommy, even though he was thinking about trying again.
Feels a lot like "But I am ready for something, and I think that something could be with you."
Buck is searching for something. He always has been. He's pretty sure that something is love.
But he keeps trying to force himself to fall in love with any partner willing to stay, instead of trying to make a relationship work with the person he's already in love with.
Had no idea what a booted tire was. Thought it was maybe just a broken tire. Googled it just now and... "isn't that illegal?" sure fucking looks like it to me :D
Dont make me laugh im on school DONT MAKE ME SNORT PLEASE
I don't know if my favourite part of the episode was Buck saying he has feelings for Eddie or him saying that he does not have feeling for Tommy
I cannot believe that Evan „Buck“ Buckley just uttered the words „I‘m not in love with Eddie“ on NATIONAL FUCKING TELEVISION
rwrb x buddie WHOS WITH ME (I made Buck Alex cuz I wanted to draw his boobies thanks)
The fact that there are only 10 fics on ao3 whit the tag „Bobby Nash adopts Evan „Buck“ Buckley“ is actually criminal
Bobby: Today I realised I'm old.
Athena: What happened?
Bobby: I fell in the hall and instead of laughing, Buck came running to see if I was ok.
Athena:
Bobby: I saw fear in his eyes.
(x)
Actually wait I’m so excited for Bobby’s cult leader mom. I hope we never stop learning absolutely bizarre facts about this man. Child alcoholic figure skater with magic blood that saves infants from a rare disease i love you forever
Why haven’t I seen a single post about this
This is insane
bold lettering, unignorable
HOLDS QUEEN SIZED BED
WHAT IS THIS DEVILRY FORESHADOWING I SEE
Buck and Eddie are so gonna share a queen sized bed at some point I can’t
Literally between them the whole time like what
okay, so it's bothering me a little how a lot of people are talking about ryan's acting, and i wanted to give my two cents on it.
for me, it's pretty clear where ryan is going with his acting choices, especially after what he said on the podcast. but for some reason, people are acting as if eddie's lack of emotion is just ryan being a bad actor. i might agree with that in other scenarios, but this time? no. i’d say that even though his performance isn’t oscar-worthy, he's still doing a great job portraying what’s happening with eddie.
which is: he's repressing the hell out of his feelings.
and we can see that—there are a few instances where his mask slips.
when he learns that buck is going to sublet his house, he can't keep his emotions at bay. in my opinion, he realizes in that moment that he has someone who genuinely loves him and would do anything for him, which just makes things even harder. so, he tries to repress his feelings even more.
when buck brings up the subject of him moving again while they’re searching for maddie, his façade almost slips when he says, "it isn't nothing." but again, he pushes his feelings down. it’s obvious he’s exhausted from thinking about it and fighting about it with buck.
and finally, when they say goodbye, ryan does something so subtle that if you blink, you’d miss it—eddie’s smile falters just a little, and his eyebrow twitches while they’re hugging.
so yeah, it’s obvious that eddie is going through it and trying his hardest to keep his feelings locked away. to really understand eddie right now, it's important to keep in mind what ryan said in that podcast about reading between the lines—and also remember that while buck is really expressive with his feelings, eddie is the complete opposite.
