i have to reread the series but i recommend it to anyone who hasn’t read!

Sometimes when I’m listening to curated playlists I imagine complex edits of a character or events of a story to match the music, transitions and all… usually books that have no digital media (films).
I like when people like a character so way too much that it transcends even self shipping or kinning and becomes more of a patron saint that you pray to type of deal
Adam Parrish canonically gets dry and cracked skin on his hands, probably enough for it to bleed. He would have heard a hundred times about how it looks like he's been in a fight, a joke that never gets funnier every time he hears it. Adam "Do you think it makes me look tougher?" Parrish. Adam, who goes to punch the wall and just presses his hand against it. Who is terrified of becoming his father.
And, despite all that, still has cracked and bleeding knuckles, without needing to hit a thing. As though, no matter how hard he tried to avoid it, the capacity to hurt was written into his skin- inherited.
I’m not sure if it’s intentional, but I love that each raven boy corresponds to a horseman of the apocalypse:
Ronan: war (fights anything with a social security number, is also battling his own emotions/fears)
Noah: pestilence (his body/spirit decaying over time)
Adam: famine (often described as hungry, represents a more figurative interpretation of starvation/desire)
Gansey: death (for obvious reasons)
I guess Noah and Gansey could be switched, as Noah is quite literally dead and Gansey could be interpreted as Conquest in place of Pestilence.

adam being a magician makes him the first card in a tarot deck and not to mention his name is the first man ever born oh he’s really that bitch
declan describing adam as a “creepily clever little fuck” may be the most accurate thing. ever.
Just think about it for five seconds and civil engineer Adam makes so. much. sense. He gets himself put on projects to make sure they don't interfere with ley lines. Plans for new bypasses get moved by half a mile. A bridge gets built where someone initially wanted a tunnel. Make this bitch work for the Army Corps of Engineers. That's how he can get his damn .gov email address without being a fed.
adam parrish being just a little villain-coded is so fun to me. it never stops tickling me that the set-up WAS THERE for him to betray gansey in a worse version of the story — he was the rejected member of the love triangle, he was bitter about gansey's privilege, he's methodically ambitious about getting his in a dog-eat-dog world. in TRB, when he stole the camaro, ran off and killed whelk, that COULD'VE been the beginning of a villain arc.
but he loves his friends too much to let them go, and his friends love him too much to let him go. so he's their fucked-in-the-head sly friend who blackmails people with made-up child murder and scams rich harvard students with fake readings and pathologically lies like he breathes <3 something so wrong with him but he's a good guy <3
throwback to the dream thieves when adam “quietly turned eighteen” (adam parrish, who did everything quiet 😭) and then did this:
like. what else is there to say. the legend jumped out. he literally woke up from his metamorphosis sleep, downed a carton of pomegranate juice (pomegranate!!! the symbolism is exquisite— the death of the boy, the rebirth of the man— of the magician), inhaled some witch brew to heal himself spiritually, and went to go fix the plot of the book and rewrite the future. iconic behaviour.
stopped in my tracks and almost fell to my knees when i remembered that the Only time the font changed in the entirety of trc was when adam sent blue the flowers with the little note….can’t get up…….

thinking about adam parrish as "adam" parrish, the first man- not able to rely on anyone else, needing to do everything for himself. the constant fear hanging over his head of returning to the (henrietta) dust from which he was made, of never outgrowing his upbringing.
blue sargent, whose name immediately evokes strangeness- and ronan lynch, whose name immediately evokes violence.
noah czerny, who is known by his first and last names independently - acknowledged only for his self (gangsey), or only for his family's wealth (whelk). either way, always fragmented and never the whole of who he used to be.
richard campbell gansey iii, who goes by gansey, his family name. gansey, who is constantly trying to live for other people and never himself.

they’d all forgotten that adam was an animal. love this parallel because
1. being his own master w/ the devil/lucifer’s estrangement from heaven + animal autonomy
2. adam (sometimes) believes he is intrinsically bad but this is only (partially) because he was ‘cast out’ by a higher power!
4. many people’s assumptions about adam are wrong. their pitiful “drawings” of him don’t contain his true complexities, and/or at least he thinks they never can.
