A problem with tone tags that I don’t think anyone realized we’d have is that, because the people who use/need tone tags most are neurodivergent, we tend to interpret them differently.

I have friends who have expressed they don’t like /gen because it feels insincere. I have other friends who love /gen (myself included) because they have anxiety and it reassures them that I mean what I say. I can’t use /nm around a couple people because it reads to them like I am indeed mad. Sometimes /nav reads as intended, and sometimes it doesn’t. At some point I started using /silly instead of /j because it made more sense to me, but then I have to explain it because that’s just a whole extra word attached to the end. Don’t even get me started on what /hj means to everyone

These changes are not ideal but they do not affect us negatively so there’s no need for panic. You may notice other’s lives getting ruined but people like us are therefore being raised above them. You may also feel compelled to rebel against these changes out of a sense of loyalty or maybe guilt, but the best thing to do is accept the change seamlessly and adapt their views into your daily life. Because opposing these changes gets you nowhere. It is a losing battle that you should not take part in. This change makes things easier for us so accept it and take advantage of it. We were lucky enough to be born into a world that favours us. Others do not have this privilege and while it may seem unfair, we have no power in this system and no matter how loud you scream, your voice will never be heard.
