Generative AI is theft. It's also a huge waste of electricity and water.
I'm not the most knowledgeable on it but I know it's nothing but the next techbro scam that's going to waste billions of dollars across the world for stolen and incorrectly regurgitated information and art.
All my homies hate AI.
being robotkin or anything adjacent does not give you an excuse to be pro-ai. being techum or anything adjacent does not give you an excuse to be pro-ai. being neurodivergent does not give you an excuse to be pro-ai. i cannot believe that has to be said.
sometimes when i talk about AI it feels like this is what the conversation is like:
person A: hey. did you hear theres a mythical giant drinking the ocean through a straw? look, it’s crazy.
person B: well, i dunno. the giants already there, so we may as well just learn how to cope with it.
person C: i disagree, actually. the giant is good for humanity and will solve cancer!
person D: well i think all of you are extreme. what we do is divide the ocean in half. that way the giant can continue stealing our water and we might be able to survive for a few more decades.
person A: why don’t we just stop the giant from drinking our water?
person B: well then what would happen to the giant? how are you personally gonna stop the giant?
person C: well i don’t think thats fair. the giant has a lot of good qualities that people tend to overlook just because he’s drinking the ocean.
person A: holy fuck guys there’s a second giant and they’re implementing laws so we can’t take their straws away
person D: this is so amazing for the giants! (:
no i love that Mark Carney has appointed a minister of AI who has access to our economics and national security. no i think it’s great that the Canadian government is encouraging a surge of AI. this cannot possibly go wrong in any way shape or form! i’m actually really excited for AI to be inescapable at every turn of my life! this will definitely make our lives easier! thank god we have robots to do the pointless jobs that humans have burdened ourselves with!!
From now on, every time I hear someone used ai for something they could have done without, I’ll say
“skill issue.”
"what did students do before chatgpt?" well one time i forgot i had a history essay due at my 10am class the morning of so over the course of my 30 minute bus ride to school i awkwardly used by backpack as a desk, sped wrote the essay, and got an A on it.
six months later i re-read the essay prior to the final exam, went 'ohhhh yeah i remember this', got a question on that topic, and aced it.
point being that actually doing the work is how you learn the material and internalize it. ChatGPT can give you a short cut but it won't build you the the muscles.

Art is what people should just do, no expectations attached.
no way ppl are using ai to write ao3. what happened to being a tortured writer. what happened to blood on the page. what happened to the ao3 curse. people used to get run over, have their houses burned down, break their entire spines and they still put in the work to finish a chapter. fuck you, using ai. y’all are weak

Because if you demonstrate to me that you're willing to set aside concern for truth, evidence, and verifying things with your own eyes whenever it happens to be inconvenient for you, I have a solemn responsibility to make sure you don't get into medical school.
If you use generative AI to write, you're not a writer, you're barely a software user.
You're generating autocorrect sentences. That's not creation, that's just statistics at work. If you don't want to write, don't try to be a writer! You don't have to be a writer, or an artist. And you also don't have a right to being either, just because you feel like it. You also don't have a right to running the Olympic marathon, just because you feel like it. You gotta train for the marathon, and you gotta write to be a writer.
Letting software patch words together for you is not creation. Oh, and you're making yourself stupid and destroying the environment, so yeah, just stop.
On the subject of non AI resources, I assure you that if you make it clear you will actually support non AI versions of something, people will make it. People often want to put in the time and energy to make these resources, they're just hesitant to because they fear no one will use them. Do not get me started on how many character blogs there are out there for popular characters that get no asks or interactions whatsoever, because people would rather use character.ai.
"I have social anxiety", I get it, I really do. And yes, a part of keeping these none AI resources alive is you have to stop being a lurker and actually interact with them. It can be scary, but I assure you it is worth it to let the people who create these resources shine.
I want to leave DA in the dust forever due to Certain Things but I love stuff like this and really can only reliably find them there, I've tried like #charactermemes and #artmemes but can't find what I'm looking for? Any help?
So it looks like NaNoWriMo are happy to have AI as part of their community. Miss me with that bullshit. Generative artificial intelligence is an active threat to creativity and the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of people in creative fields.
Please signal boost this so writers can make an informed choice about whether to continue to take part in such a community.
