the fact that Colin is just itching to be away from her one day, and then just lets Pen leave without him (going to the same location) the next day...this show! Colin is so stupid.
Not even the Duke allowed his wife to leave alone. He too, like Colin, had every right to be angry with his wife, but that didn't stop from him from maintaining honor, dignity of their marriage, wanting to be with her and protect her. A good strong man!
I just need to acknowledge how terrible it is how much Colin abandons her and leaves his wife all alone at times on conflict/when things are hard. This isn't how you handle conflict healthily. It makes Colin look so weak, so blah, so boring, so bland, so LIMP. It's so not Colin! And we're supposed to believe he's in love her -sigh- why did the writers do something like this??
although i do like that they argue and then it is immediately followed by a steamy make out session (very book Polin), there are two huge flaws with this scene that COMPLETELY ruin it -
Colin walks away from Pen, "not wanting to hear it," leaving her all alone in the middle of the street at night for the second time.
Pen, again, has to call out to him and get him to stop to talk to her. The fact that she has to initiate AGAIN is not okay because remember, this is unrequited-to-requited story line. We're in the requited section - so the ball is now in Colin's court, he needs to be doing more initiating for any of this to have any meaning. If Pen continues to pursue him, even when he is angry with her, THEN WTF ARE WE DOING HERE? And therefore, it ruins the interaction after that because it's Pen in the driver's seat yet again and that's not fair to Pen. She deserves to have him pursue her for once. FFS!!!
Second flaw - he doesn't go back home with her in the carriage - why? what are we even DOING here???
The problem with having Pen run after Colin, pursue him, chase after him, beg for his love, ask him to dance at her own damn wedding is that it's pathetic. Yes, it's pathetic because she's been pining after him all this time, and it was time for Colin to be in the driver's seat of this relationship. It's vital for their love story that he finally takes INITIATIVE and pursue HER, even after marriage, even when he is angry with her.
The way she has to continue to run after him, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Because now that we know this is how Colin handles conflict - he will ice her out and force her to run after him - she's going to be dealing with this forever and that's sad. That isn't how it should be.
not only is it gross to see show! Colin continuously turn his back on Pen and leave her all alone, it just ruins the essence of Polin. One of the great parts of book Polin is their ability to handle conflict TOGETHER. Even when they are angry with each other, they talk it out, argue it out, and then make up.
When things are good, okay fine they're cute yes, but what makes book Polin great is how they handle things together when things AREN'T good. It's not romantic to have your man ice you out when he's mad at you. It's not cute that he would give you the silent treatment and refuse to even touch you when he's angry with you. It's not romance...
people saying Polin's wedding was beautiful when Hyacinth literally asks why Colin looks so "vacant" and there's a sheer look of terror on Penelope's face during the whole thing. this wedding wasn't romantic it was just tense and not in a good way...
Penelope standing all alone at her wedding breakfast because her husband is ignoring her. It's so noticeable that her mother has to come and accompany her, it looks that bad.
Show!Colin you are trashhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and Pen deserves better ffs
in the mirror scene, why is Pen holding her own breasts? that's Colin's job! he's a boob man like...?? the whole scene's choreography was so off
it's very strange that Penelope keeps bringing up the other women Colin has been with. she says she LIKES reading about his sexploits with other women?? why would they have Pen be like this? If Colin wrote about his and Pens' sexual experiences and she liked that, then it would be different.
this screams insecurity. the whole point of the mirror scene was for Colin to body worship her to help with her insecurity. then immediately after sex she brings up his other women...twice...even after he says "nothing compares."
If you're preoccupied with your lover's previous lovers, it's never a good sign.
the writing of this show is SO WEIRD????? do people actually find this romantic?
book!Colin would also say this, but the way he would say it would be sexy & protective & bossy in a hot way, and then it would be immediately followed by a polin make out session.

book!Colin would challenge show!Colin to a duel at dawn and kill him on the spot for this.
I would have been fine with Colin being angry Penelope until literally the last 25 seconds of the show as long as he was standing by her side, touching her, holding her hand, talking with her, arguing with her. In the show, he wasn't JUST giving her the silent treatment, he was treating her like he HATED her and wanted nothing more than to be away from her. Why would they do this to polin?????
I would have been okay if he just silently seethed next to her, even curtly saying "i don't want to talk about it!", but always by her side, even if he was mad and not saying anything. Just frowning next to her, grumpy + sunshine style
You don't understand how opposite this is to the essence of book!Polin - book polin always argue but then immediately make out and go have sex, like they're always in each other's orbit, even when they are upset with each other. They talk things out, argue head on, deal with issues quickly. I always found that to be such an important and beautiful part of Polin!
making Penelope ask her husband to dance at her own damn wedding is so cruel, why would they do Pen like this? why do this ?? and she asks him to dance after HE AVOIDS HER THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE WEDDING BREAKFAST, and on top of that, she has to walk over to HIM as he stands by the wall like a dumbass.
Why is she standing all alone there has Colin chats up randos when he should be at his wife's side at their own damn wedding reception? They should be greetings guests together.
She's chasing after her husband like this, initiative everything, running after him, begging for his love. it's so gd humiliating and her character doesn't deserve this!
Colin's love confession is so pointless because he just spent weeks icing her out, ignoring her, leaving her all alone, turning his back on her, rejecting her pleas and begs to hold her, not touching her, not even looking at her. When times are good (the queen has accepted her) he's okay now all of a sudden?? Had the queen NOT accepted her, would he have so conveniently changed his tune?
He was treating her so cruelly that Pen offered an annulment, he was treating her THAT badly, the woman he apparently "loves"
this show made Colin so weird, people who defend this as romance are so weird!

there's nothing wrong with wanting the love of your life to come save you! it doesn't make you weak to do so! it's OKAY to want that, especially in a romance story. having your man come save you is sexy and romantic! like why would they have Penelope say this????
in the book, Colin saves Pen by announcing to the Ton about LW, and Pen found that incredibly romantic and sweet. What's wrong with that? now they had her standing all alone up there and her husband alllllll the way on the other end of the ballroom (he's not even in the first row of guests), doesn't even greet her right after her speech?? so stupid

icing her out was not cute nor romantic. he denied her her wedding night because he wanted to punish her because HE KNOWS how much she lusts for him and wants him sexually. the fact that he won't touch her is so fucking weird and cruel. talking about how he "doesn't know" why he won't hold her or kiss her or stand by her side. show colin you are so stupid and you don't deserve Pen!

the mirror scene is so weird because why is his chest so far away from hers? it's very obvious his body is positioned for camera angles, it's so weird??????? the carriage and dream scenes were great because their bodies are smashed together frantically, that was actually hot...
Colin gets upset with Penelope and then continuously turns his back on her, leaving her all alone, abandoning her multiple times. If this is someone's way of handling conflict, that's just not love... She has this view of his back WAY too many times, like she should NOT be having this view of her husband....no one should!
Why would they do this to Colin's character? Colin handles problems head on in the book, he wants to talk it out with Pen immediately and then make out with her. like? that's the essence of Polin. This Colin is so spineless, limp, runs away like a coward!
why would the actor make the decision to PHYSICALLY RECOIL from the love of his character's life? what was the point of Colin being so cruel? and then to deny her her wedding night as a form of punishment because he couldn't possibly even touch her? All sense of love and yearning evaporated, replaced with ice cold cruelty and avoidance. That's not love! if they were going to go this horrible route, better acting was needed to show that Colin is conflicted - he doesn't look conflicted, he looks absolutely disgusted and repulsed by her, which is not polin!

WHY WOULD THE SHOW WRITERS DO THIS TO POLIN?
