La ultima función de Xair Nevado como maestro de ceremonia en el Kita Kat Club.
9 años explorando con el sonido, la estetica, el espectaculo, la literatura y sobre todo mi vida personal. En estos ultimos años, nacio una historia que se iba construyendo mediante mis vivencias reales y manifestando de forma fantasiosa a través del arte. Ya no puedo encontrar la division entre estos dos mundos. La fantasia se hizo realidad, el pequeño arlquien ya no llora solo en el teatro.
La primera banda sonora de este proyecto fue lanzada en el 2015 justo en mi primer semestre en la carrera de Teatro en la escuela de Bellas Artes de la Universidad del Atlantico. Ese proceso de arlequino lo fui vivenciando miestra era estudiate y el teatro era mi fuente de inspiración. Ese proceso culmino hasta el 2018 donde ciertos probelmas personales e institucionales me llevaron a tomar la decisión de abandonar la carrera. Sabia que lo que debia hacer era dedicarme 100% a mi proyecto personal. Asi, en el 2019 decidi irme a Bogota vivir por primera vez solo, sin conocer a nadie. Consegui varios empleos que me ayudaron a financiar la grabacion de voces en un estudio para la banda sonora del proyecto "Dias De Metal". Estando en Bogota, llego el momento de la pandemia, eso hizo que al estar encerrado me llevara a la construcción del poryecto "Blue Hologram". Al poder regresar a mi ciudad... puedo decir ahora, que ha sido el momento en el cual mas me he conocido, explorado y ajustado. Quizá sea porqué cada vez soy mas adulto y mis ideas tambien crecen conmigo y mis vivencias, golpes y alegrias de las cuales siempre saco provecho para continuar en esta vida, siguen siendo la fuente de inspiracion para seguir construyendo este proyecro artistico interdisciplinario llamado: XAIR.

CABARET LITERARIO es una propuesta performatica travesti y marikona, que cuestiona as estructuras sociales, a partir de la musica y la poesía, en escena sus cuerpas marikonas y disidentes abren un espacio de enunciación antirracista y decolonial, donde les artistas comparten sus historias a través de textos poeticos-politicos y manifiestos, que junto al proyecto musical de Xair Nevado, creando un discurso de revolución y resistencia desde la escritura marica, la sátira, el erotismo, el amor, su propuesta estética y el cabaret.

Do you ever feel like bleak and just so fucking tired and rundown and idk… cynical? Maybe defeated is the right word? By the world, so much so that you wish you could shut your eyes and yell “lalalalalala I can’t hear you!!!!” Like you’re 6 years old again and your little brother is trying to tell you that mom said it’s his turn to swing on the swing? And then you see something. And it reminds you that complacency is guilt, even support, in the face of evil. And your thrust back into the world, but you don’t know how to do anything to help and even when you so it doesn’t seem like enough and it doesn’t feel like it matters and you just wanna go back into the little room of pretty things and beautiful songs and ignore the secret outings raising money for “the cause” and- but you must keep going because you know deep down it’s the right thing to do even if you feel like Sisyphus and you feel like nothing will change and your scared and sore and tired and battered and bruised but timidly hopeful and determined and-

Let's unpack these lines, shall we?

Escapism; ignorance is bliss.
we have no troubles here!
So long as you are here, there are no problems to worry about!
So why not stay awhile? After all, what good is sitting alone in your room?
here, life is beautiful.
Life is beautiful here in our little cabaret.
Life outside the cabaret is ugly.
so why not stay awhile?
When those are all added together by the end of Cabaret, what do we get?
The Kit Kat Club is a place for people to engage in escapism. While you're in the Kit Kat Club, you have nothing to worry about, especially your worries outside. After all, in here, life is beautiful. Why bother worrying about the people who can't afford, can't find, or otherwise cannot access this beautiful little Club of ours? They aren't here, where life is beautiful, they are outside, where life must be ugly.
See where this leads?
It divides us just like the titular Kit-Kat; split in twain. There is no glory, no love of life in the line "life is beautiful" within Cabaret. It is the vessel by which we see one of many possible messages:
fascism is able to invade our lives by our proclivity for escapism.
and, simultaneously,
fascism can seduce us all into not noticing the damage that it does, by glorifying and beautifying itself.
To celebrate the show by reveling in the sexiness of it is to miss the point; you are using it as escapism. The London and now Broadway production literally showcases how everyone is slowly seduced by imagery: from the Emcee's swastika-inspired dance at the top of show, and his old war helmet in Money Money, to the very attractive and flashy dances we see performed by the beautiful Cabaret girls and boys (and "even the orchestra is beautiful!") This is the exact point. The sexiness and imagery is used to distract us from folks like Ernst Ludwig, who weaponize information and identity to divide and conquer. Neon.
I had to unfollow some old friends because they have seen this show twice and that was all they came away with. But any time I try to talk with them, they shove me off, like I'm taking things to seriously. I hope this is useful to someone. That is all. Yes, life is beautiful; but it is only as beautiful as we defend it. Life is beautiful in that it is lived, and lived deeply, by truly perceiving it.
