I’m going to be honest, I was worried I was starting to lose steam/inspiration for “Low Lays the Devil in Me.” It’s probably why I focused on writing “Tethered” for a few chapters. But I forced myself to just take ch. 16 a paragraph at a time on my phone for the last week and then forced myself to sit at my computer yesterday and finish the chapter.

Turns out forcing yourself to write even when you’re not inspired works. I’m now extra excited to keep working on it 🤣

Aaaaand I did it again. Lol Caitlyn has been there once, for the Remembering ceremony back in the first fic. Any chance someone wants to fix my memory of my own story that I made up so I don't ever forget anything??? lol

Hey! So I am working on the next chapter of Low Lays the Devil, but it's just been a busy and exhausting week. I have three days off of work after tonight and my only plans are taxes and laundry, so hopefully I can get the next chapter up soon!

So, I really don’t think I would ever do this, but if I had to rewrite any of my three CaitVi fics, it would be Tethered. Not because I hate it, because I have had so much fun writing it, but because now that I know where it’s going, I kind of wish I took my time to get there more and elaborated on some things more. If that makes sense.

Vi furrowed her brow slightly as Caitlyn shifted, appearing almost uncomfortable as she didn’t elaborate. Her heart reached out to comfort the other girl and a fresh wave of pain flowed through her at the brick wall she was met with instead.

As the sound of conversation and merriment filled her childhood home, she felt a small smile pull at her lips. However, if one were to look closely enough, they would see a faint sadness behind dull blue speckled eyes as Vi, subconsciously, rubbed at a spot in the center of her chest as her heart pulled at her to look for bright blue eyes in the crowd. Vi sucked in a quiet, shuddered breath as the agony of the missed connection flooded through her. She clenched her jaw and let it happen, like allowing a large wave to overtake her and remained calm until she was safe above the water again. Her heart beat mournfully for a moment, but then quieted down again as the ache soon left her. Vi glanced around and was glad that everyone seemed to be too caught up in the celebration to notice the few seconds of quiet pain Vi allowed herself to feel before it faded. With one more deep breath, she took a sip of her beer and went to actually partake in the festivities.

Five years later...

The slight turn that the new "Tethered" chapter has taken is interesting. It's kind of turning out like I hoped, but also pretty different at the same time. I'm excited! Hopefully I can get it up tonight or tomorrow morning.

So I have about 1, maaaaybe 2, more chapters of “Tethered” left and then I’ll do probably a few of “Low Lays the Devil in Me” since I’ve favored the shorter fic the last few days. After that, I’ll put the prologue of the Pirate AU!!

Caitlyn opened her eyes, feeling something pull on her side of the tether. “Vi?” she whispered questioningly. The tether pulsed hesitantly at Vi, as if asking if she was sure. Do it, Vi pleaded.

Vi crawled into Caitlyn’s lap as the other girl entangled her fingers in Vi’s hair and ran her hand up and down her back. “You won’t. Just because we get rid of the tether doesn’t mean we have to stop seeing each other.” Vi let out a watery scoff. “Cait, I’m just some trencher from the Undercity. You’re a councilor’s daughter.” “I don’t care, Violet,” Caitlyn replied tersely. “I’m not going to let the divide between our cities take you away from me. Not after this. I promise, I refuse to allow it.”

I've noticed a bit of a trend with my fics where, in terms of in-story time frames, Caitlyn and Vi fall for each other in a short time and I'm like "hmm, should I have made it longer to be more believable?" But then I remember the time they spent together in S1 was probably no more than 24-48 hours and these gay ass bitches were asking "what about us?" by the end of those few days and we ate it up like goblins 😂

She sighed contentedly, resting her cheek on her hand to continue her examination of Caitlyn’s profile, which was much more interesting than the magic mumbo jumbo being discussed.

For CaitVi, and fanfiction in general, I haven't read that much lately, if I'm being honest. It's not because I don't want to, but because 90% of my free time I have has been dedicated to writing the fics I'm currently working on that there's just not enough spare time I have to read. I used to read way more, but I honestly fell out of fandom life in general a few years ago prior to Arcane, so I just haven't engaged much with fanfiction or tumblr for a bit. Only these two fucking characters could pull me back onto this gremlin house of a website 😂

I shall add this pirate AU to my TBR bookmarks! Thank you for the rec😁

I was sent over here from North Piltover Station for reassignment,” Caitlyn stated. The man blinked his dull, watery blue eyes several times at her, as if he wasn’t sure if she was real or not. “You’re who from where?” he asked as he pulled the paper off of him.

Edit: this is art from the original writing of “Tethered.” I would never think of taking this down though, as it is too pretty. As of May 21, 2025 this hasn’t happened in the rewrite.

Ch. 6: Diesel is Desire "Tethered" CaitVi FanFic

Caitlyn sucked in a sharp gasp and looked up at Vi, meeting her eyes in the mirror. Vi immediately slapped her hand over her eyes and suddenly wished the floor beneath her would open up and swallow her whole. “I’m sorry!” she rushed out, her voice cracking. She could feel how hot her cheeks were, both from arousal and humiliation. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—I forgot the mirror was there—I only saw for a second—“ She stopped talking, her brain moving too quickly for her to get a full sentence out. Through the tether, Vi felt mild embarrassment, but was mostly dominated by flattery and a shared arousal. But there was no anger and Vi felt herself relax ever so slightly. “It’s okay,” Caitlyn said, her voice slightly strained. “I believe you, Vi.” The silence between them was incredibly awkward and Vi was still fighting the heat that simmered beneath her skin. We should probably talk about this as well at some point, she thought, tightening the hand she still held over her eyes.

I've said before that I've been making up my fics as I go, as I have found out that I am more of a discovery writer than I am an outline writer. So this entire time for "Low Lays the Devil in Me," I've had no idea how the conflict will come to a climax.

Oh, oh, oh booooooy. I've thought of it and I am soooooo excited!!! I also think I know what the last scene will be. Don't worry, we still have quite a bit of plot left. I think we're over the halfway mark plot wise, but I'm just stoked!

You don’t need to make it worse,” she spat, sitting up and looking Cassandra in the eye with a stubborn furrow of her brow. “Vi, it’s okay,” Caitlyn whispered, but she ignored her and just glared at Cassandra. The woman met her gaze, but narrowed her eyes as they darted back and forth between the two teenagers suspiciously. “You two are getting on strangely well considering what you said when I was here last,” Vander observed, also looking at them curiously. Neither of the girls said anything. People knew about their shared emotions, but talking about it with others seemed almost wrong. Too personal. Vi looked at Caitlyn and they both sent through the tether a mutual understanding to not discuss it with others unless they had to.
