it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.
Controversial Take: the whole 'chosen one' thing in the prequels is completely pointless, serves no narrative purpose that could not be easily filled by any number of other factors, and actually makes the films worse by being included but never actually explored in any meaningful detail other than the fact that it's just. kinda there.
So in movies or books, why is the chosen one always that person who has no idea what’s going on and is confused for the whole story?
And why is there ALWAYS that one person who’s like "Yeah, you’re a loser, I would have been a better chosen one than you, at least I know what I’m doing". And let’s be real, somehow, that person almost always ends up as the love interest.
Like why? Give me a ‘chosen one’ with a brain. Give me side characters who actually help the mc understand what’s their job instead of being jealous dicks-
I'm always wondering why most writers I see always have a very similar why of going around with this troupe. Think of all the possibilities:
They could be a literal war criminal who has killed thousands of people
They could be a tired college student who doesn't want to deal with this bullshit
Could be fucking married to the bad guy they're meant to kill and just go all "nah"
A gen z who is done with life
Could just die and those prophecy reading dunderheads were looking for the wrong fucking person
All the stupid possibilities
