When the other mother gives Coraline a cake in the movie, It says "Welcome home!" with a double loop on the "O" in home. According to some studies in handwriting, A double loop on a lower case "O" means that the person had bad intent or lying. So, The other mother is basically telling Coraline she's welcome but she isn't home.

made a piece for ethereal, a coraline zine!! unfortunately, the zine is discontinued, but i had a blast working with the team there and on this piece! it’s been almost a year since i finished the original zine version and i noticed i forgot her freckles!! so, i ended up adding that in this updated version, with a few adjustments to the piece. hope y’all enjoy!!

It’s JJ appriciation week (again haha) ! So I drew this creepy wonder from the movie Coraline!
Wow I thought I was the only one who had to deal with the door thing! The attic door of our house is a small door that’s extremely similar to the one in Coraline.
It was in my room when I went to see the movie.
Let’s just say little me had nightmares for weeks and it’s at least half the door’s fault

Currently rewatching Coraline and i noticed something weird. In the scene where Coraline gets the poison oak rash from the dowsing rod it is pouring outside. Like showering. Even so to where her real mother comments on it.
When Coraline first comes over to the other world, the other mother sees the rash and says that mud is great for poison oak, and the fact that coraline never said she had poison oak and the other mother was watching her through the doll creeps me out and then later puts mud on the rash only for it to disappear in the morning.
But again, the scene that she got the rash in was pouring rain, along with her touching lots of mud.
So how did the other mothers mud work?
Was that just another way that the other mother was trying to convince Coraline to stay? Either way, super cool detail that the "real" mud didn't even come close to fixing the rash, but the other worlds mud (or the mud the other mother created) did.

Not to sound nihilistic, but I feel like the best works of fiction with kid protagonists are almost always the ones with a key understanding of how strange, helpless and even kind of crushing childhood can really be, not the ones that see those years as pure innocence and nothing else.
