Do the Jana have any practical, day-to-day spheres of influence? I know they have virtues, but they seem distant.

Tumblr ate my last answer, and this one is far clunkier. Forgive me.

But yes. I have made a study of the Great Janati, pulling from original Madrian sources and modern Filianic sources, as well as personal research. Most of my ideas are still hodge-podge brainstorms, but I will post the three most ‘complete’ answers below.

-Sai Vikhe is the Opener. The cutting edge, the strength to endure. She is the patron of warriors, medical surgeons, firemen, and anyone else who uses blades or force to save lives and remove danger. She is precision, a rallying cry, and the protector of those who cannot protect themselves from the danger they face. At the highest level, she is Holy Valour. The neverending war against the demons, against Irkalla; to fight for eternity, to fight to exhaustion and beyond because without her protection, we would be consumed by monsters within and monsters without. The valour to wield truth like a blade, the sharpest blade. 

-Sai Sushuri is the Soother. The healing touch, the deep water. She is patron of psychiatrists, hospice workers, and naturopathic medical professionals, as well as boaters and fishermen; any who make their money off the open waters. She is the calm lake and the terrible storm, for hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. At the highest level, she is Holy Love. Gentle love and fierce love, the love of Dea for us. A love that compelled the Daughter to be shattered for our ultimate healing and redemption, and the love that tore apart the very gates of hell itself.

-Sai Mati is the Knower. The keen eye, the knowing hands. She is patron of advisers, farmers and craftsmen, of those whose hands and minds provide what civilization needs. Librarians, researchers, farmers, mechanics, carpenters; knowledge that improves the material world. At the highest level, she is Holy Wisdom. The saying, “Any work done prayerfully becomes an offering of infinite virtue” comes to mind. The maiden picking apples who cuts one open and is suddenly struck by the epiphany of the Pentacle within- that is Sai Mati. 

This is the extent of my comprehensible research. I’ll add to it as I go.

I'm having trouble understanding correspondences- what makes a plant associated with Jupiter, for example? Is there any reading you'd suggest for a better understanding of these things? Thank you

Oh, I am like the literal worst witch to ask on something like this -- because I'm not a materialist when it comes to correspondences. I'm not of the opinion that particular materials have inherent associations.

Now, a lot of people don't agree with me on this though -- so you might want to ask other people.

I personally believe that materials have correspondences because the witch using them in their magic give them that meaning... well, I'm more of an animist so I think we convince the materials they have that meaning, but close enough.

Now things like herbs often get correspondences because they're literal chemicals acting with physical properties, but in my experience a lot of correspondence lists (like, say, candle colors) are unsourced, unexplained things likely pulled out of someones ass thirty to forty years ago and repeated without questioning by the witches who came after.

So yeah. "Things only mean things because we tell them to mean things" is where I come down in the debate. But believe me, it is very much a debate in the community.

Since bread metaphors are in, I'd like to express a controversial opinion on correspondences.

As the metaphor goes, if you want to learn how to bake bread extremely well, you may study multiple types of bread from various different cultures, because many of these breads will have something to teach you which you can apply to your own bread.

Additionally, in examining the recipes of a multitude of cultures, you may begin to notice a few common threads.

"Bread," you might then say "Is made with flour." And you would not be incorrect.

"But," someone else might point out, "Flour is for making papier-mâché!" And they would not be incorrect either.

So then, does flour have bread-making capabilities, or papier-mâché-making capabilities? It has both.

And what if someone were to add, "Bread is made with almond flour, which is completely different from wheat flour. In fact, you shouldn't use wheat flour, because some people can't use that bread." ("Well I'm allergic to almonds, so really--")

So, if bread can be made without flour, and flour can make things that are not bread, is there any connection between bread and flour at all?

Obviously, there is.

It's just complicated. If you study the practices of many different cultures, and you find similarities, then you might feel inspired to create your own recipe using some of these common traits-- the ones that you find you like the most.

The correspondences of different things are not fixed-- new ones can be constantly invented. Likewise, your spell can be ruined by a bad combination-- or a bad combination for you.

If something is not working for you, find alternatives.

everytime i look at your posts i remember "oh yeah. i Gotta draw the campers more." and i then do an exercise where i spin a wheel and get 2-3 random campers names and do something with them. 've gotten a couple good comics out of it. finishing up this quentin, J.T. and Misha one. just wanted to share that you keep the camper love alive.

As long as there is breath in my lungs, I will be here to draw the campers and cherish them.

Hello! I have probably subconsciously picked up on some bits from his art style since it's a seriously cool art style (I say "probably" because I haven't had an IZ phase believe it or not lol so I've never actually attempted to imitate his style.)

I draw a lot of Psychonauts fanart and some of the concept artwork from it is Vasquez-esque. My friends have asked me if he worked on the game before so I think there is a bit of a stylistic overlap.

i've noticed that the psychonauts fandom is so small, and more specifically so tight knit, that everybody kind of knows everybody. It's like we all live in a big cul-de-sac. I've even started compiling what seem to be household names in the fandom world.

People, usually artists, that are just there. In every mini-circle, in every server, in every "OH MY GOD LOOK AT THIS/pos" convo.

all this to say: me and my friends love your art. it's amazing and you've had a very positive impact on the fandom (or at least a fandom server, which has enough people and inside jokes to be its own fandom at this point lmao)

I want to deeply thank you, your friends, and everyone who leaves very kind words on my artwork and in my inbox. I want you all to know that I keep those kind words rotating in my head like a rotisserie chicken, and that I go back to read them again and again. I am deeply grateful and very happy that my drawings are so well-liked. I often underestimate myself and the impact I have on others, and to read that I have had a great positive impact on something is mind-boggling (in a good way. It's a little hard to describe the feeling.)

It makes me very happy that I've brought joy just as other artists have brought joy to me with their drawings and writings. It's a great feeling, and I am very thankful. I like our little fandom. We're all holding hands and spinning around like that monkey gif.

I LIKE J.T. I think he's wonderful. I liked him instantly from the first moment I saw him and heard him speak. He's a psychic, he's a cowboy, he's a PSYCHIC COWBOY. He shoots bullets not with a gun, but with his MIND. He can play harmonica. He's a polite little gentleman. He has a nice face and a very trustworthy smile. I would trust him. I like the way he talks. I like his bestie, Chops. I like to draw his neckerchief and smile the most. I think the very concept of a psychic cowboy is brilliant and I just love his design.

I don't normally take requests, but I like Raz and I like the campers. I can't turn down the chance to draw them.

I'm glad you asked! Let's see…

(Disclaimer: These are rough ideas and subject to change. I love these characters so I tend to go on and on and on and on. I will put it under a cut so people are not bombarded by great walls of text lol.)

I toy with the idea of Crystal and Clem being camp counselors at Whispering Rock once they get all their problems sorted out. I'm entertained by the idea of Clem taking over Basic Braining (PUNCH PUNCHY PUNCH YAAAY RAZ!!) The adult Clem I have in my mind looks like a sports coach, and I think his version of Basic Braining would take place in a stadium with various sporting events. Basic Braining but instead of Coach Oleander yelling at you to move your ass, it's Clem being overwhelmingly supportive, "YEAH YOU CAN DO IT! NEVER GIVE UP!"

Now it's time for my girl, Crystal. She sometimes pops in Clem's Basic Braining, but she has her own levitation class (maybe overdone? lol) like Milla's Dance Party. Except instead of 70s disco, it's 80s electro-synth-whatever-the-proper-name-is pop. As for specifics on how it would look or be like, I am still thinking about it. I based my older Crystal's outfit on 80s fitness instructors. She's still very bubbly and optimistic, even more so since now dark emotions don't cloud her mind and weigh her heart. I just want the best for them (her and Clem), so I want them to get better.

I'm still thinking about HOW they get to the recovery point. I cannot explain currently due to my ideas being too vague. I don't want it to sound like the therapy fairy waves her wand and fixes 'em better because it takes effort and a willingness to WANT to get better (for Clem especially because he's so jaded and devoid of hope.) I have faith in Clem for him to change and realize he hasn't always had Crystal's best interests in mind. He does care about her, but he's so entangled in his own negativity. It causes a rough strain on their friendship, but they do reconcile as young adults.

They are not dating as adults, but I do entertain the idea of them trying dating for a very short (and I mean SHORT, like less than a week) time. It's weird and awkward for them, so they prefer just being best friends. They get a ton of people always asking "ARE YOU TWO DATING??" No, they're just besties. I don't really do shipping so I don't ship them with anyone, even as hypothetical adults. I don't know about friends they'd have aside from each other (because I have only thought about hypothetical older versions for a small handful of campers.) Clem basically cuts all contact from his parents (good for him) and Crystal does her best to distance herself from her mother.

Helloooo! I've been alright. I'm kinda looking forward to when my sister leaves once more so I can play PN1 on her laptop and do Very Important Camper Research on the weekend, but that kinda sounds mean like I WANT her to leave lol. It's not the case.

I've actually been meaning to revisit/redo the previous time I shared headcanons when you asked, but I haven't gotten around to it. I basically took some bulletpoints from my "Thought Compilation" doc and some of my guidelines and observations got mixed in with what could be considered "headcanon" or "interpretation" or whatever. Some of which have been altered/changed due to better understanding the characters as I draw and observe/learn about them more, so that post has become somewhat outdated. This is also part of why I considered making a side blog or something, but I dunno.

ETA on that: Eventually.

Now for doodles. Anything I've done recently will be compiled in a post like I do monthly/bimonthly, so look out for that in August (or whenever I feel the time is right.) There are some things in there I think you may like, but I am not ready to share them yet.

But I do not want you to go empty handed, so I will show some fun things I call "absolute rejects." Hello! Sadly, most of my ideas about Misha's family are very vague and it's difficult for me to explain, but I will do my best. In my mind, Misha seems like someone brotherly. I don't remember if I specified it in the post I did with some of my headcanons/ideas/interpretations of him, but I think he is the oldest of his siblings. It's hard to explain why I think it. It's just the vibe I get from him based on how he interacts with Maloof. I've already explained how I think his friendship/alliance with him has a brotherly aspect to me, so I won't dwell on it. (I'm also the eldest sibling, so I can tell these things lol) I haven't given much thought to his siblings regarding how many he has, how many of which are brothers or sisters, or if any are psychic like him, which is a bit disappointing. I imagine he likes to roughhouse/play fight with them. He uses his powers when playing, of course. If your older brother was psychic, wouldn't you want him to toss you around with his telekinesis? lol. He doesn't hurt them though, it's all just for fun. I think they have a lot of fun with him. (I think he tries to play with Maloof like this, but Maloof does not respond well to it. Just a funny random thought I had.) I also haven't given much thought to his parents, but I think they are good to him. I think he inherited his abilities from his father. I also think his father may have been a lot like Misha in his youth (wrestling bears and whatnot.) I don't have many ideas about his mother currently, but I think she is good to her son. I think that's all I have for now. Hopefully I was able to explain my thoughts in an easily digestible manner. Thank you for your time, have a Misha for your consideration.

Hellooooo 👋 Thank you for giving me an opportunity to talk about the campers. They are very precious to me. 🤍

Usually my mind goes blank when I am asked about headcanons, but I will think very hard about it for you. Some of these may be more of "interpretations" rather than "headcanons." I will try my best to keep it digestible. (Initially, I also wrote "short" but ha..hahaha NOPE. I'll place it under a cut.)

I'll start with Misha since he is my top fav. Let's see …

He's a bit rough, but his heart is in the right place. He is NOT heartless or emotionless. He has a sense of humor, but when it is time to be serious, he does NOT play around.

I do believe with my whole heart he is incredibly strong. His little stick arms appear deceptively weak - you'd be surprised.

and if he is to be believed, his telekinesis is so strong it can cause eyes to pop out. I believe he could break bones with it if the situation were dire (or if Maloof told him to do it…)

Lord only knows what the "Telekilliminiator" entails (misha voice) you do not want to see this move I am warning you.

Let's move away from violence for a moment. He is not outwardly affectionate, but he is not uncaring. He shows it in his own way.

and so, I imagine hugging him has all the warmth of hugging a plank of wood.

But he tolerates Maloof becoming clingy when afraid and cuddly when sleepy.

He is definitely an older brother. He has the protective older sibling instincts, I can tell. I bet he has many younger siblings.

I think he play fights with them often. Roughhousing is how he shows affection.

Maloof and Misha are like brothers in my eyes. Of course they are boss and bodyguard, but I think it's nice how there are some moments when Misha is playing with him or trying to teach him to get stronger.

He does not yell or hit. This is very important. (Every day, I am torn up inside because I drew him hitting Nils a while back … MISHA WOULD NEVER EVER DO THATTTT. I am so sorry for drawing him horrendously out of character.)

He respects the bears. He does not wrestle to hurt them (loosely quoting Campster, not verbatim.)

I am 50/50 on whether he would know Zoolepathy or not. It would be limited to bears. Even if he doesn't know it, they still understand each other in their own way.

He is very brave. He would never turn back from a fight.

And I think when it was his turn to encounter the 'hairless bear' he (tried to) wrestle it, but we know how well that went… It must have been frightening for Maloof to see Misha be defeated.

Is a gamer? There is a picture of Zangief on his Campster page …

Nature gives him peace (me too.)

I like the mystery of what is hidden beneath his hat. Not even I have an idea of what it looks like under there … ALTHOUGH, I have drawn him hatless (with hair showing! THE HORROR) but it was so cursed I deleted it. The world cannot handle hatless Misha.

As for anything regarding shipping, I do not ship him with anyone.

If you want to get his attention, mention anything pertaining to wrestling and/or bears. He'll perk right up like ? :)

I think that's all for my boy Misha. Let's move on to Clem and Crystal, my unstable babies. They are my second favorites, and I like them both equally. Given the nature of these characters, some of these may be upsetting. I will phrase my thoughts as respectfully as I am able to.

Let's start with Clem:

I'll begin with something light. I have given all the campers birthdays based on their zodiacs. I stuck the dates in a random generator and that is how it was decided. Anyway, Clem's is November 10.

Self-deprecating. It serves to take the punch (hehe) out of any insults, and as a cry for help.

His father is awful to him … always going on and on berating him about this and that.

Yeah? Well his dad's a deadbeat and he's projecting his own shortcomings. I made him up in my head for these purposes and I hate him.

And his mother does little to interfere. She's a dead inside husk of a woman (maybe that's where Clem gets it from…)

His parents are divorced, but they still live together. It's complicated.

And I also imagine he has two older brothers. They, too, are very mean to him. I think they are several years older than him. Not adults, but either nearing it or older teens.

All of this has left poor Clem feeling very jaded to the world, and he's just hit double digits…

He doesn't cry very much about it anymore. In fact, he doesn't feel very much anymore.

Tends to dissociate.

Insomniac.

He's given up, but I don't believe he is beyond recovery. He is so young. It is heartbreaking…

Has moments where his mask slips, but is generally better at concealing his inner turmoil than Crystal.

He doesn't strike me as someone very affectionate, but he lets Crystal hug him, hold his hand, etc. and he comforts her when she is upset.

The times he gets to be with Crystal are times when he feels happy, or at least he gets to have some semblance of inner peace, just for a while.

He really does care for her despite trying to drag her down with him. He wants to keep that "connection." His despair is part of his identity to him. It's kind of difficult for me to explain what I am trying to say. He wants to keep being able to relate to her, but he doesn't realize this hurts her and in turn, hurts him. IT'S COMPLICATED, sometimes our thoughts and emotions are contradictory.

Crystal initially gets him to give up the "project" but he winds up falling back into old habits.

It causes a rough strain on their friendship. He doesn't WANT to hurt her by being this way, but he's been this way for so long he doesn't know anything else. Can things really change for the better?

I like to think he DOES get better very slowly with help. It's slow progress, but progress nonetheless. I am so proud of you, Clem.

I don't ship him with Crystal. Their friendship (as flawed as it may be) is very important to me.

Speaking of Crystal, let's move on to her:

Her (randomly generated) birthday is September 22. In fact, I think she was the first one I assigned a random bday since I wanted more happy things to celebrate in September.

She dots all her i's with a puffy heart (Raz says so. I believe it 100%)

Seems to be very ticklish. If you tickle her with the feather, she has three different laughing lines. All of which are variations of hysterical laughter.

Alright let's get into the depressing parts. Her mother is overly-critical, prone to lashing out, and emotionally volatile. She is also dismissive of Crystal's issues, feelings, e.g. "You are NINE what problems could you POSSIBLY HAVE?"

Crystal does her best to avoid getting on her mother's bad side, but it is often a guessing game if her mother is in a bad mood or not …

Her mother's overly-critical nature has in turn made Crystal very harsh on herself. Making a mistake, no matter how small, can send her into a breakdown.

She is gullible and readily forgiving. This leads to her getting hurt repeatedly.

A bad liar. Her heart is too pure to truly lie. That's why Clem takes control when they have to make excuses. She goes along with whatever he says.

She tries her best to see the good in everyone.

She holds onto a tiny thread of hope in her heart, a tiny shred of naive optimism, but she loses her grip more and more.

She gives up the project (after re-braining)

She worries more and more about Clem…

I think she is affectionate with those she is close to. Poor girl needs a damn hug anyway. That's why I like to draw her hugging Clem.

I do not ship her with Clem. I don't ship her with anyone.

Alright, let's move on to Phoebe and Quentin. For simplicity's sake, let's consider them my third favorites.

Let's start with Phoebe. I don't have a lot to say about her at the moment (still working on it), but I'll put together some thoughts I have:

Her (randomly generated) birthday is October 18.

I imagine lots of kids fear her at school due to her inclination to set things on fire. It's very upsetting for her. She only wants to help others.

Part of me wonders HOW she found out she can't burn Quentin (I know it's a mental block, but how did she know she had that?)

And on that note, I wonder so much about how she and Quentin became friends. I cannot articulate my thoughts on my idea of how it happened at the moment. (I know Quentin says the mental block is one of the reasons they are friends, but it's not the ONLY reason…)

She is protective of Quentin. She is ready to light up anyone who hurts him.

Feels very warm all the time. Probably nice to hug. Lucky for Quentin who hugs a lot.

I do not ship her with Quentin. Their friendship is important to me.

I don't have much to say regarding her therapist aspect, or at least anything I'd be able to properly articulate.

I feel bad I don't have much else to say about her currently.

Drawing him with an expression besides happiness causes me great anguish. Fortunately, things do not get him down so easily.

I refuse to believe he swears. I know he says "damn" on Campster, but I think that's as far as he'll go. Even then, it still feels very wrong. He is very much a "dang" person.

He mentions that Kitty got him into scarves. The scarf is part of him now.

One of the most popular kids at camp due to his easygoing and likable nature. Maybe that and his charming looks have to do with being so popular with the girls…

But I don’t see him as the type to be interested in actually HAVING a relationship (using “relationship” very loosely because it’s all kiddie crushes) and more enjoys the chase rather than the catch. In other words, I don’t think he’d enjoy being with Kitty as much as he enjoys singing teeth-grinding songs about her.

I don’t think he would have fallen for Kitty if not for her influence. Even he seems a little surprised that he has a crush on her. ("I can't explain it. It's like she has a spell over me.")

Kitty is 100% screwing with him.

He is pacifistic and does not prefer to use the more offensive PSI-powers, but if the situation were very, very dire, he does have PSI-Blast in his arsenal … but it has to be an emergency. The power is not derived from anger, Quentin seldom gets angry, but instead derived from fear/desperation.

I wonder if he has tried to draw/design his own album covers. He should get Raz in on that.

I think he has maybe at least one younger sibling. Maybe a sister or something.

He HAD a dog, but it died last winter. How sad…

He's a good kid. I bet he keeps his room clean. (I've spent a lot of time thinking about what his room might look like. You can tell a lot about someone by their room.)

He has a hard time saying "no." He doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

Good at de-escalating conflict, especially useful when Phoebe is having a flare up.

Since Phoebe cannot ignite him, he is able to get away with teasing her more than anyone else would. It’s a sign of affection. They’re the kind of friends that can tease each other and it has no impact on their friendship.

Is it reaaaaalllllly a mental block that prevents Phoebe from burning him, or is it just the fact he is too chill to be ignited? (This is a joke.)

I know he's not chill all the time. He has moments when he can be a little passive aggressive.

Phoebe's ride or die. I like to think they remain friends long into their adulthood.

But he doesn't pursue a career as a Psychonaut. I think he pursues a music career. Without Phoebe, he becomes a solo act as a touring DJ. Heeyy, what would his DJ name be? DJ Levitator? hehe

Phoebe does pursue the Psychonaut route. They still keep in touch. (Long distance friendship is nothing new to them, after all)

Yes, I firmly believe that he hugs a lot. He says so on his Campster, but he is not clingy. He just likes to hug, and he'll respect your space if you aren't down with it.

I may draw him hugging, putting his arm around, other affectionate gestures, etc. with Phoebe, but I do not ship him with her. I value their friendship very much. (Have I made it obvious I'm not very into shipping? lol)

He doesn't have to say or do anything. His presence is just very peaceful and calming. (Good vibes, y'know)

Likes all kinds of music. Will listen to anything. Knows all sorts of genres. (The hardcore dubstep gregorian chant cotton eye joe whatever definitely influenced this one lol)

Also the type to send you a link to a song with only about 100 views and was uploaded 10 years ago, but it’ll be a damn good song. He is good at finding hidden gems.

He likes to attribute different songs to his friends. He'll make mixtapes for 'em too.

And I have many songs that I attribute to him lol. He is the only character to be graced with two dedicated playlists. Generally, breakbeat hardcore, DnB, jungle, ravebreaks, garage house, and happy hardcore make me think of him. Bonus points if they have lyrics like "take me higherrrr" or "I'll always be here by your side"

(And if you know your genres, most of those have an emphasis on drums. It is very intentional. It's like … the "electronic" sound I associate with DJs and DJing, and the drums tie to his friendship with Phoebe.)
