Hello Dear Friends, May I Present A Newly Creative Version Of My Sculpture Called The Glamour Girl. I've

Hello dear friends, may I present a newly creative version of my sculpture called The Glamour Girl. I've taken many photographs of past sculptures and it's only perhaps over the last two years that I've started to edit the pictures. To see if I can create some interesting images that might work for future wall art, I call this image " Burning Up " and of course it's The Glamour Girl. I hope January has started well for you and may I wish you a great rest of this week, Take care 🤗☺️👋

Hello Dear Friends, When I Last Posted I Presented A Little Black And White Glimpse Of Little Boy Tom.

Hello dear friends, when I last posted I presented a little black and white glimpse of Little Boy Tom. So tonight I thought I'd present a black and white photo of the whole framed canvas wrap print.

This canvas wrap print is called Little Boy Tom and was created from my sculpture called Little Boy Tom, which was a life size figurative portrait I created of a sitting little boy.

And this artwork is in a newly painted black and white frame, I look forward very much to presenting more artwork on here very soon.

I wish you a great weekend, keep well and Take care 🤗👍👋

Well, that's massively creepy! My library (and our OverDrive consortium) don't have any eAudiobooks with "synthesized voice" narrators. Unfortunately, that doesn't necessarily mean that we don't have AI narrators that aren't identified that way. We do have books by Blake Pierce, Molly Black, Fiona Grace, Rylie Dark, and some of the other authors listed in the article though.

Our Collection Development Policy doesn't specifically mention AI; we'll have to keep that in mind for the next review. I would recommend against purchasing AI-generated materials based on our criteria of artistic and literary quality, and reputation of the author, artist, or publisher. (Not to mention the damage that it does to the literary industry and the people in it!) However, that depends on us knowing that something is AI-generated. We don't have the time to do a deep dive into every author and narrator like Robin Bradford and SB Sarah did for this article.

Personally, I'm disgusted by AI-generated material being used in place of human-created works. Machine "learning" should be taking over repetitive, boring, and/or dangerous work to give humans more time for creativity! Using AI for creative work and leaving people to do more drudgery, is sickening. The fact that most of the bases that AIs are using come from people who are neither credited nor compensated for their work just makes it worse.

(This is my personal opinion and not the opinion of my employer.)

Is your library unknowingly buying AI written and/or narrated books?

OK, I know it sounds like clickbait. But smartbitchestrashybooks.com makes a pretty compelling case in their recent article,

AI Audiobook Narrators in OverDrive and the Issue of Library AI Circulation Policy

It's a long article, but worth the read. I wonder if it started before or after KKR bought Overdrive.

Any thoughts, @bibliofran ?

This. All of this.

I had a tattoo client ask if I ever used AI to design tattoos for me. Man I spent the better part of a decade doing shitty bit work as a graphic designer and now that I have the space to do whatever I want, I'm gonna let the computer generate random garbage for me? What next should I have a computer that eats my dinner and fucks my wife?

It should not be any surprise that a majority of the Happiest report countries in the world, also have the highest reported intellect, education and success. One such country, Finland, is consistently praised for various reasons. It has great access to nature (including the Northern Lights) and a clean environment, there is a real sense of community as it is not uncommon for people who have lost their wallet to have it returned and high parental leave for all parents; and there is a great freedom to express oneself as seen with the creativity that has pushed design boundaries, created mobile games and metal music.

While not the only foundation of these achievements, another instrument of this success is the love Finland has for their books and public libraries. Noted as the country that takes out/borrows the most libraries in the world these libraries truly are epicenters of the community where new and established residents may learn, explore, think, question and grow

Combat, Cure & Craft

Some of the most prosperous and advanced countries have the comfort and ability to create and provide access to libraries. But with education and knowledge having the ability to create and improve communities, even in times of despair there are still those who promote the beauty of books

Displaced, Deserted...Degraded?

Another library institution is school libraries, which if not more crucial to a community to a local library are at least equal. School libraries, as with education, can be a great building block and equalizer of the community and the current racial, economic, social, and other divides in our communities by bringing people together and expanding their horizons.

The city of Chicago has a lot of diversity with a portion of it having to do with it’s large immigrant communities. Separate from their history, the people of Chicago and from around the world come to see the  renowned museums mixed with avid sports fans, corporations and religious organizations. But for a community with so much action and so many people working hard and creating, there are apparently few school libraries. While people can pretend the age of smartphones, video games, and ereaders are partially to blame and make this change okay, from 2013 to 2017 the school libraries decreased by 65% (from 454 to 157)(1). This drop has been noted by students, some who didn’t even know school libraries were a thing and it’s a bigger deal than even they may understand. Similar to local libraries that can be centers of community, education, exploration, personal and community growth while promoting opportunities; school libraries do all that earlier on while also introducing children to reading. By introducing students to libraries earlier in their school years and as a part of education where they can choose their path, learning about different people’s stories and encouraging them to see reading as an expansion of their lives and can be a guide to their futures. Even something as simple as a library cart can make a world of difference, but I hope Chicago continues to work to bring back their school libraries for now and for all of our futures.

The Pillowman

After the older stories by the Grimm Brothers, A Picture of Dorian Gray, and The Lottery in high school--finding the newly written “The Pillowman” was like a breath of fresh air. Another story that twisted your world upside down and had an element of supernatural while also being so accurate about the aspects and attitudes of human nature, just made me feel so at peace.

The Pillowman

The Pillowman is fascinating to me as overall it’s a short story, quick read but has so much depth. There is very little filler, you find out what you need and that’s that. Also, there is great complexity and skill to someone who can make you sympathize with someone who should be seen as evil--whether or not they truly are evil or that sympathy is warranted

Professor Flitwick

image

Professor Flitwick, my Head of House, was all I love about Ravenclaw. A proven underdog, he was passionate about learning, studied hard and had some serious talent. While we didn’t get to interact with him much, he was ecstatic by Hermione’s 112% in her first year and graded it as such, which to me showed how he didn’t care about whose house you were in and pushed for all to excel. From this, I would believe that he would have been a great supporter of Hermione’s efforts during her third year to try with the time-turner and learn as much as she could, would have worked with Neville so he could exceeds with getting a N.E.W.T. in Charms after the pep-talk from McGonagall and of course was in awe of Fred and George’s final salute to Umbridge and traditional education. So thank you Sir for your true intelligence about the type of learning that is truly important, how we learn in matters of personal exploration, kindness and individual creativity.

Ohhhh I really like this take.

What I see over and over is that almost all people want to be participants in storytelling, in some way. People don't only want to be passive. Everyone is an artist, everyone has feelings and wants to share them.

I love that we're like this. <3 <3 <3

Since I've already done this on previous accounts on other platforms, I thought about resuming an old ritual of mine. The idea would be to ask a selected group of people questions from the fields of psychology, philosophy, art and creativity, society and ethics or a mixture of these areas.

I can't yet say how regularly questions will be asked, as this depends very much on my own mood and creativity.

In terms of structure, I plan to post the questions on my blog and tag individuals who are interested. Subsequently, you can either generate a distinct post or reblog to respond and express your opinions.

As an illustration, you can refer to the response provided by @readsal to my first question: https://www.tumblr.com/readsal/737080816398696448/muse-playing-the-harp-by-antoine-auguste-ernest

What would such questions look like, for example?

Psychology: If you could change one thing about the way your mind works, what would it be?

Philosophy: Do you believe in free will, or do you think our lives are predetermined?

Art and creativity: If your life were a painting, what colors and symbols would dominate the canvas?

Society and ethics: Do you think morality is subjective, or are there universal moral principles?

If anyone is interested in such questions, please feel free to like this post or let me know by other means. I would then create a list and include the respective people.

Can you imagine Remus trying for hours to create a perfectly normal animal for Patton for his birthday but he's running out of time so like

Remus: *pops up, holding creature*

Roman: *immediately draws sword* Are you trying to KI—

Remus: No! No, no, it's not a cat.

Creature: *looks exactly like a cat*

Remus: Well, not really. See, I made it look like a cat, cuz Patton loves cats, but he's allergic. So it's not really a cat.

Roman: *half-lowers sword* How do we know you're telling the truth?

Remus: Um... If I was trying to be evil, I'd do it much more bluntly?

Roman: *sheaths sword* That's true.

Patton, looking at the creature: Aw, kiddo, it's so cute! Does it have a name?

Remus: Um, no, I thought I'd let you name it. If— if you want it.

Patton: Of course I do! Aw, that's so sweet of you.

Remus: *hands creature to Patton* Just be kinda careful, I'm still new to making normal creatures, so it might be a bit—

Creature: *starts to yawn, as it's mouth gets widest it breaths a spiral of fire, closes its mouth and does a little mlem at the end*

Remus: ...odd.

Everyone: *carefully watching Patton's reaction*

Patton: Kiddo...

Patton: ...I LOVE IT! Oh my goodness!

Patton, scratching the creature's stomach, in a baby-voice: Who's the cutest little not-kitty? You are! Who's my cute little fire-breathing-cat-lookalike? You are!

Remus, softly: *eyes tearing up* He likes it.

Roman: *solemnly sets hand on his shoulder* You did good. You're making us proud as a club member.

Remus: *sniffle* I like this club.

Remus: Why do they call it the birds and the bees when talking about procreation between people? Birds and bees aren't mammals. They're nothing like people. Do you know how a bird or bee reproduces? I just know they both lay eggs. So like, what?

Logan: *scoff* They call it—

Logan: They call it...

Logan: WAIT HANG ON
