Dancing

I did not dance in in my past life. At various points I was cajoled into the act, which resulted in a display lacking any kind of gracefulness or aesthetic pleasure.

I played a lot of Dance Dance Revolution, which I love dearly but resembles actual dancing in much the same way that Jazzercise resembles actual jazz.

Post-HRT, I found myself spontaneously dancing; while enjoyable for me however, I doubt the end result was particularly enjoyable for anyone else.

Recently my spouse has made a point of impromptu slow-dancing with me. This is not a new thing per se; but they have very sagely opted to start taking the lead.

That’s how I found myself this afternoon, hand in hers, eyes closed. It was then that I experienced what I can only describe as a profound moment of rightness, and I was so overcome that I burst into tears and was rendered speechless.

I can’t stop thinking about it. For one, singular moment, I didn’t feel like a work in progress; or an imposter; or a woman with an asterisk over her gender. I felt like a girl; the girl I always had been and will be.

I look forward to more moments like this!

Unexpected HRT side-effect #8

Skittering!

Strictly speaking I started HRT on year ago; but my endocrinologist didn’t want to go full-throttle with dosages until he had established that doing so would, in fact, not cause me to die (which seems perfectly reasonable).

It really wasn’t until around... April-ish?... that my levels actually got to where they needed to be; and the moment it happened, it was like a switch in my body just flipped.

Then I started skittering around the apartment. I would bounce off the walls! Dance in the kitchen. There was shimmying. Oh so much shimmying!

I told my spouse: “Sorry, I don’t know why I do this. I guess it’s just a thing!”

I’ll never forget their response: “You don’t need to apologize. It means you’re happy.” Beat. “I’ve... I’ve waited so long for this. For you to be happy.”

Of course, this does rather make it sound as if the preceding years were spent in unspeakable misery, and this was not the case. It might be accurate however to say that I spent a lot of time giving my love to others and never reserving any for myself. Undoubtedly there are greater acts of loving oneself out there; but I figure committing to turn one’s gender upside down is up there!

Here’s to my newfound physical expression of joyousness!

Merry Christmas from the Christmas Wilf :)

Also remember the other day when I said Leela was on my top 10 companions list? Wilf is definitely on the list as well. (Actually, who am I kidding, there’s no way I could actually pin it down to a top 10 list. But Wilf is still one of my favorite companions.)

And my thoughts went from that poor saxophonist to look at that flexibility and strength. Oh wait, looking at the flexibility they might have had a type of EDS.

Still iconic and brilliant. Much wow.

The blessed time of Cab Calloway of his orchestra and his extraordinary dancers.

This is absolutely brilliant! Worth the read. I want to see this put to music and dance now.

The stage is empty, save a single thought. She walks over to pick it up and it leaps from her grasp, landing on the worn planks with a hollow thump. She reflects briefly that it sounds like a heartbeat, the sound of this thought landing on the stage, and begins her chase. Her bare feet flash from a billowing skirt and pad softly in pursuit. As the thought moves away from her in a fluid bound, she giggles and whirls around to leap after it. The cresting fabric of her skirt pulls tight around her knees, and then loosens as her direction changes. The only thing she can see, can focus on,  is catching this thought, though it alludes her thus far. It pauses and she slides across the boards with a rasping sound that reminds her of leather in some strange way. She crouches low, one knee bent up to rest against her shoulder as her arm stretches out to hold her balance.  Her skirts wafts gently under her left leg, stretched out long and lean. Her breath is harsh and ragged, and all traces of giggles have ceased. She is now determined; she is a woman with a mission. She holds her position steady as the though turns listlessly in place.

Suddenly it seems like there are two of them. Are her eyes playing tricks on her? She closes off all her senses, retreating into solitude for a moment or two, then comes back to the moment. As her eyes open she gasps and loses her balance, falling backwards. Her legs somewhat splayed, she attempts to regain some sort of composure as her eyes widen in amazement. What was a solitary thought has become hundreds, each a different size and texture but all staring in her direction. She plants her hands on the wood between her legs and pushes into a hunkering position. The thoughts remain still. She extends a hesitant foot out towards a group of three. They remain still. As she slowly begins to shift her weight to that extended foot, she notices something of a tension amongst the triad. As she stretches her hands to stroke the closest one, pandemonium erupts. Every one of her thoughts is exploding away from her. She bursts into action, coiled muscles relishing the chance to spring her into the air.   Her breath is ragged, tearing from her lungs in short bursts as she flies about the stage. Nothing has meaning except that she, above all, must  lay hand on any one of these. But they are tricky and can sense her desperation. They playfully flit in and out of her range, seeming to know exactly the moment to dart away so her hands close on air.

She moves about the stage, running after them as they all begin to vanish. As they seemingly all disappear, her eyes close and harsh sobs wrack her body as it sinks to the floor. She sits cross-legged with her face in her hands, and the lights on the stage begin to darken.

Sitting alone with the last of her sobs behind her, she begins to wonder where she'll go from here. The last of her tears run down her face as she feels something silky crawl into her lap, a warm weight settling down as if to comfort her.

Deseo que os guste!🌙 EN|| I haven't been here for many months... Between work and health issues that I've been dragging on since the end of last year (I'm much better now!) it has been impossible to get to everything, but I’m back! Today I bring you one of the projects I've been working on these last months: the image for the poster and the program for the Endantza dance school end-of-year show. The theme was "planetary humanity" as a motto of diversity, inclusion and respect, not only among humanity itself but with the entire planet earth and its surroundings. Based on this idea, I decided to include diverse dancers on a natural planet earth, full of life, which in turn is surrounded by planets and stars. I wish you like it!🌙

ENG || The other day I went to see a stork nest, they’re such beautiful animals! In this "new normality" it calms me to see the animals go on with their lives, taking care of their own. Storks are a bird that lives in North Africa, Europe and some regions of Central and East Asia. Although they’ve always been a migratory species, the number of sedentary birds has increased significantly, and many of the birds that still migrate have shortened their distances significantly feeding mainly on dumps and rice fields. For years the population of this species has fluctuated quite a bit; some of its most important threats are: drought episodes, loss of feeding habitats, agrarian transformations, widespread use of pesticides, illegal hunting, collisions with power lines, the elimination of nests... USADance (and I’m assuming the national organizations for other countries) still do this! The local chapters have to hold dances, and at least one of those a year has to be a formal: http://usadance.org/chapters/find-a-local-chapter/

You know what I wish we still had? Balls.

Like formal balls from fairytails. Instead of going to a club or a bar, you would go to a ballroom. There’d be music and dancing, and everyone could wear fancy clothes. There could be masquerades, where you could meet new people and reveal your real identity at the end of the night. There could be gay/lesbian balls and gothic balls and space fantasy balls. Just, formal balls.
